Press the SILENCE key. 2. Press STOP to clear the alarm. 3. Disconnect the patient from the pump set. 4. Press and hold PURGE to remove air in line. 5. Reconnect the pump set to the patient and press START to begin infusion. 1. Press the SILENCE key. 2. Press STOP key. 3. Reinstall cassette. Make sure all four cassette latches are clearly visible after cassette is installed. 4. Press START to begin infusion 1. Press the SILENCE key. 2. Press STOP key. 3. Check for sources of occlusion (kinked tubing, closed clamps, tubing not behind guides on side of pump, empty container, IV/SQ site, other obstructions). 4. If problem continues, remove and install the cassette. 5. Press START to begin infusion. 1. Press the SILENCE key. 2. Press STOP key. 3. Change the medication bag. 4. Press CHANGE to enter menu to change container. 5. Press NEW CONTAINER. 6. Press START to begin infusion

When you receive the pump, it is ready to go, according to the doctor’s order. Always review the program before starting the infusion.

You do this by turning on the pump. After the unit self-test, the display message will show: “ USING BATTERIES ENTER TO CONFIRM”

Press “YES/ENTER”

To review the program, select RESUME PROGRAM and use the arrows to scroll through program and verify order.

Attach the Sof-Set or other subcutaneous (SQ) administration set to the Gemstar tubing.

Make sure to prime the SQ set before insertion into the patient.

Priming:

To prime the tubing, hold the purge button down until fluid fills the tubing. Now you are ready to begin the infusion.

Batteries will need to be changed every 3-4 days.

The alarm message: CHANGE BATTERIES means that the pump has stopped due to battery voltage below acceptable levels.

To change the batteries:

1 • Turn pump off.2 • Turn the battery door counter- clockwise.3 • Remove old batteries.4 • Insert 2 fresh AA’s batteries positive end down.5 • Secure battery door by turning clockwise.6 • Flip the tab down to lock in place.

Infusion:

For a SQ infusion:

1 • Insert the needle into prepped area.

2 • Be sure to remove the blue stylis if using Sof-Set (only the catheter remains in the tissue).

3 • Secure the site with a tegaderm and tape.

4 • Press the START button to begin the infusion.

Arrows moving from left to right at the bottom of the screen indicate drug is infusing.

Changing a Pain Management program:

Note: Delivery Mode (Continuous, Bolus, and Continuous + Bolus) cannot be changed once programmed. A new program must be entered.

1 • Press STOP.

2 • Unlock the pump through the OPTIONS menu.

3 • Press CHANGE.

4 • Select CHANGE PROGRAM (Not NEW PROGRAM, unless a new program is desired).

5 • At each message display, make the desired changes or press YES/ENTER to accept the current setting.

6 • Review the program by arrowing down to begin review.

7 • It is recommended, that the pump be locked after changes are made. Use the OPTIONS menu to lock the pump.

8 • Press START to begin delivery.

Shift Totals and History:

1 • Press OPTIONS.

2 • Select HISTORIES.

3 • Select SHIFT TOTALS.

4 • Press the arrow down and up keys to scroll through the display. When done, the pump displays CLEAR TOTALS?

YES OR NO. a. Press YES/ENTER to clear the shift totals. b. Press No to exit OPTIONS without clearing the shift totals.

When you need to change the cassette:

1 • Press STOP.

2 • Disconnect the Gemstar tubing from patient.

3 • Press CHANGE to display the change menu.

4 • Select NEW CONTAINER.

5 • To remove the cassette from the pump, press down on the casette release (large black button with triangle) on the top of the pump.

6 • Load your new cassette. The clear window on the set will cover the silver ball.

7 • Insert the cassette into the cassette pocket by pushing down. You will hear it snap into position.

8 • Place tubing in the tubing channel and through the guides.

9 • Connect tubing to patient’s line.

10 • Press start to resume infusion.
