INSTRUCTIONAL LIVESTOCK FARM COMPLEX COLLEGE OF VETERINARY & ANIMAL SCIENCES, PANTNAGAR
History: The Instructional Dairy Farm of the College of Veterinary and Animal
Sciences was established in 1948 as Tarai State Dairy Farm with a herd of Murrah
buffaloes and Haryana cows. Later in 1956, Sahiwal cows were introduced at the farm
from Chak-Ganjeria Farm, Lucknow. It remained under the administrative control of
the Uttara Pradesh State Government upto September 1961.Thereafter, it was
transferred to the University and subsequently renamed, as “Livestock Research
Center.” to fulfill the research, teaching and training needs of the staff and students. At
the time of transfer, the farm had 150 buffaloes, 40 Haryana cows and a small number
of Sahiwal cows. After that Jersey, Rathi and Red Dane cattle were introduced in the
years 1967, 1971, 1972 respectively.
From 1961 to 1964 the dairy farm remained under the administrative control of
the Dean, College of Agriculture with the name of Livestock Research Centre as a unit
of the research and in 1965 the administrative control was transferred to the Director,
Experiment Station. In August 2002, it was transferred to College of Veterinary and
Animal Science and renamed as Instructional Dairy Farm.
The College is running the Instructional Dairy Farm (IDF) and Instructional Poultry
Farm (IPF).These farms are spread over 500acres of land.
INSTRUCTIONAL DAIRY FARM {IDF}
Objectives:
o Conservation of indigenous Murrah buffaloes, Sahiwal cow and Badri cattle of Uttarakhand.
o Supply of bulls of Sahiwal and Murrah breeds to farmers and agencies in different locations in Uttarakhand for upgrading the local dairy animals.
o Research on various aspects such as breeding, feeding, management, disease control and dairy animals related problems of the farmers.
o Organization of trainings, camps and gosthies for treating the diseased animals, solving the problems of farmers, and disseminating the improved animal husbandry practices and technologies among the farmers.
o Imparting practical on training to the students on various aspects of animal production and management.

INSTRUCTIONAL POULTRY FARM {IPF}
Objectives:
o Research on various aspects of poultry such as breeding, feeding, housing management, disease management of poultry.
o Development of good quality germplasm and supply of day old chicks to farmers and different research and extension departments of Uttarakhand.
o Serve as a model poultry farm and demonstration centre for the benefit of the farmers.
o To conserve the native germplasm viz. Uttara fowl of Uttarakhand.
o Imparting practical on training to the students on various aspect of poultry management.
