With over 35 years of experiencein the aluminium industry

The Navarra Group was founded in 1977 in the city of Bra-ga, in Northern Portugal. Operating in the industrial area, its main activities focus on aluminium extrusion, surface treatment and the sale of aluminium profiles and acces-sories. The company is also dedicated to the assembly of thermal break profiles and providing of profile machining and precision cutting services for a wide range of applica-tions. The Navarra Group has distributed business activities between four, vertically organised companies. The Navarra I company is dedicated to the industrial area of the Group and gathers all production processes in a single industrial platform with a total covered area of 31.426m2. It develops aluminium profiles for various industrial sec-tors, operating in both domestic and international markets as well as ensures sales network across Europe. It remains market leader in Portugal and is ranked among the “top 1000” Portuguese companies. The Navarra II company, specialised in civil construction, is responsible for the development, distribution and trading of aluminium systems and accessories for architec-tural applications. It ensures distribution on the domestic market through a sales network established between wa-rehouses located from the North to the South of Portugal. The N.2.A company, head-quartered in Luanda, and the Navarra Mozambique, in Maputo, ensure distribution and trading of the products provided by the brand on these markets.

PRODUCTIONPROCESSES

Its high mechanical resistance, versatility and du-rability, have turned aluminium into a worldwide reference material.

Its lightness, strength/weight ratio, hardness, aes-thetic properties, flexibility and high resistance to both corrosion and external agents have turned alu-minium into one of the most used metals in the entire planet. Resistant, versatile, light, flexible, modern; a faithful description of the metal that can adapt to anything you can imagine-Aluminium. Our extrusion process is compliant with the EN 12020 European Standard. The heat treatment of our alloys: T4|T5|T6|T64|T66 are compliant with the EN 755 European Standard. The Group’s production processes are certified according to the NP EN ISO 9001 quality standard and the NP EN ISO 14001 en-vironmental standard.

RAW MATERIAL

The raw material used in the aluminium extrusion industry is supplied under the form of billets. Alloys vary according to the intended application of the aluminium profile.

24 25

EXTRUSION

It is a process of mechanical forming through the plastic deformation of an aluminium billet.

The billet is heated and then placed in the container. By means of the hydraulic power of the press, it is pressed against the die, thus shaping the profile and changing the aluminium’s structure. The aluminium profile, already in its final shape and size, is then removed from the die, rapidly cooled and subsequently submitted to a cold stretching process and cut into its final dimensions. Finally, the profile undergoes a tempering thermal treatment, which gives it the specified mechanical properties.

Throughout the extrusion process, the following Tests/Trials are conducted:

• Size control and records according to the control plans for each profile;

• Control of hardness and records according to the pre-de-fined process;

• Control of the extrusion process according to the process sheet. The press’ speed, temperature and parameters are controlled through laser temperature-measuring sensors and press’ parameter control software.

ANODISATION

It is an electrolytic process that allows for the controlled build-up of a uniform, decorative and protective layer of aluminium oxide on the surface of profiles and plates.

The process begins with the fastening of the profiles to the suspension hooks, which, in turn, are bolted to the anodic bar that moves along a rail placed above the tre-atment vats.

In the anodisation stage, the following tests and trials are conducted: Layer Thickness | Colour Comparison | Ad-mittance | Colourant Drop | Abrasion Resistance | Loss in Mass.

DIESThis section is responsible for all services related to the verification, preparation, correction and maintenance of dies, so that we may guarantee dimensional compliance and surface quality in the extrusion process.

POWDER COATING

Is it the treatment of the surface of aluminium profi-les, through a painting process using thermally-har-dened polyester dust, applied after a pre-treatment cycle, whose main purpose is to protect and prepare the profiles for painting.

The resulting coating is called powder coating and its layer should be thicker than 60µm.

In the powder coating process, the aluminium pro-files are subject to several tests and trials, namely: Brightness | Adherence | Penetration Hardness | In-dentation Resistance | Impact Tests | Bending Test with a Cylindrical Mandrel | Coating Thickness | To-nality | Machu Test.

WOOD GRAINFINISHING

This thermal-lacquering process allows for an exceptional adherence of colour layers in any aluminium profile or plate. Our constant research focused on several painting products guarantees excellent aesthetic quality and maximum wea-therproofing. It does not require special maintenance, just usual regular cleaning. It is environmental-friendly, and all products used in the Wood Grain Finishing are non-toxic and fully recyclable.

THERMALBREAK

This process allows joining profiles using polyamide. The ad-vantages of thermal break systems lie mainly on the incre-ase of the thermal and acoustic comfort of dwellings, the reduction of climate control costs and its aesthetic properties, which allow for the use of two-colour frames.
