LAPORTE ASSOCIATE CURATOR October 2, 2019 PHILADELPHIA, PA Today, John McInerney, Interim Daniel W. Dietrich, II Director at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania announced the promotion of Meg Onli as the Andrea B. Laporte Associate Curator, effective immediately. Meg Onli’s work attends to the intricacies of language and race. She joined ICA in 2016 as Assistant Curator and in 2017 curated the critically acclaimed exhibition Speech/Acts, which explored how black American experiences have been shaped by the social and cultural constructs of language. The recent opening of Meg's latest exhibition Banal Presents marks the realization of the final chapter of Colored People Time, a pioneering three-part presentation exploring race, history, and time over the course of a year. In 2019, Meg was awarded the Transformation Award from the Leeway Foundation in recognition of her achievements and is currently a Warhol Foundation Curatorial Fellow. “I am thrilled to announce Meg’s new position as the Andrea B. Laporte Associate Curator,” said John McInerney, Interim ICA Director. “Meg has been an invaluable member of the ICA curatorial team since 2016 and this appointment is a well-deserved recognition of her talent and achievements. Her work examining the intricacies of race, language and power has brought an important and exciting voice into the institution.” “I continue to value working alongside Meg, even more so today. engagement with pressing issues in art and society are richly rewarding and distinctly textured. I appreciate everything she offers to the ICA and to Philadelphia.” Prior to her work at ICA, Meg was Program Coordinator at the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, where she worked on the exhibitions Architecture of Independence: African Modernism and Barbara Kasten: Stages. In 2014, she was the recipient of a research grant from the Graham Foundation for the collaborative projectRemaking the Black Metropolis: Contemporary Art, Urbanity, and Blackness in Americawith curator Jamilee Polson Lacy. She created the website Black Visual Archive in 2010, an achievement that was awarded a 2012 Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Art Writers Grant. Meg holds a Master’s degree in art history from the Courtauld Institute of Art and her writing has appeared in Art21, Daily Serving, and Art Papers. The Andrea B.
