Installing the Sharp MX-B402 Printer on Windows 8

There are a couple of Windows8 settings we need to adjust before we attempt to install the printer.

First let’s get to the desktop screen, you can get to the desktop from the Start screen by tapping or clicking the Desktop tile (it shows your desktop background), or by using the keyboard shortcut Windows logo key ( +D). Once here lets right click the desktop area and choose “personalize”. Then let’s select “Change desktop icons” and then make sure “Control Panel” is checked (see below) and click OK to exit this screen.

The next windows8 setting we need to modify involves printer drivers being digitally signed. The drivers we need to install are not “Digitally signed” so we have to make windows8 allow us to install them.

On your screen if you swipe from right to left you should see the charm bar show up on the right, choose “settings”

If you don’t have a touchscreen you can use the shortcut ( +I). to take you to the next step.

Next, at the bottom right choose “Change PC settings”

In PC Settings we want to choose “General” and scroll down to the bottom under “Advance startup” choose “Restart now”

Your PC should reboot into a blue screen with the option to “Continue”, “Troubleshoot” or “Turn off your PC” select “Troubleshoot” and then it will bring up another screen of Troubleshoot options, here you want to select “Advanced options” and then on the Advanced options screen select “Startup settings” and then select “Restart”. This should come back with a blue screen like below; you want to push the number 7 key to Disable drive signature enforcement and then your PC should reboot back to normal windows.

Now we can begin the Printer installation.

Acquire the printer driver for the SHARP MX-B402 printer appropriate for your version of Windows. This handout is for Windows 8, both 32 and 64 bit.

To check this, open up the control panel and choose “system” you should see something similar to below and we have highlighted where to look for your version information. Download the appropriate one for your computer.

Download the file from the location below and then run the zip file to extract it and take note of where it extracts to as this will be needed in the next few pages.

Open the control panel Icon and then devices and printers. Choose “add a printer” at the top and windows will start searching for printers, click Stop and then “The printer that I want isn’t listed”

Choose “add a local printer or network printer with manual settings”

Create a new “Standard TCP/IP Port”

Specify in the top field either address of 192.168.171.208 or 192.168.171.184 depending which copier you are planning to use. The bottom field should autofill. Verify that the “Query the printer…” checkbox is unchecked and click next.

Install the printer Driver by choosing “have disk” and navigate to the folder that you extracted the install files to on page three. Open/install the “sr0emenu.inf” file and then scroll down to see “SHARP MX-B402 PCL6” select it and then click next.

You will probably see the window below about the driver signature. You need to choose “Install driver anyway”

You may be prompted to share the printer, choose “Do not share this printer” and click next and then finish.

After the printer installs you will need to make some configuration changes. Navigate to the printer within “Devices and Printers” right click on the printer and select “printing properties” you should see something similar to below, choose the configuration tab and then click on “Printing Policy”

Choose “User Authentication” and click ok to finish.

When you print a document now it should prompt you to enter your assigned printer code.
