Installing a Distribution Point on a Windows 7 Computer on SCCM 2012 SP1

Please ensure you add the Site Server Computer Account to the Local Administrators group on the Win 7 computer.

In the Configuration Manager console, click Administration.

In the Administration workspace, expand Site Configuration, and then click Servers and Site

System Roles.

To add a new site system server, click the Create Site System Server, as below.

The following Wizard will open. Fill in the required fields and click Next

Enter the hostname of Windows 7 Computer here or click Browse to search in AD

Drop down here to select either the Primary or the Secondary server, where this DP will be associated.

Fill in the Proxy details if required and then click Next.

Select the Distribution Point option and click Next

Select the “Install and Configure IIS if required by Configuration Manager”, set the rest of

the options as desired and then click Next

Specify the drive settings for the distribution point. This settings page configures the priority for the disk drives and the amount of free disk space that should remain on each disk drive.

Click the dropdown menu and select the desired Drive letter.

If you have existing Distribution Points in your environment, you can use Pull DP option to down

contents directly from other DPs insteatd of force feeding it diretly from the Primary or the Secondary Servers.

PXE is not supported on Windows 7, so click next to Skip this step

Click this Add button; you will be presented with available servers to be selected as Pull DP partners

Multicast is not supported on Windows 7, so click next to Skip this step

Select the Validate content on a Schedule with default priority and click Next

I would recommend to skip this step until all contents are available on this DP. Once you have

distributed all the contenst and contents status all GREEN, then you can add the required boundary.

Verify the details in the Summary page and click Next

You have successfully installed the Distribution Point.

Monitor the DP installation Status

Click Monitoring, select Distribution Point Configuration Status, click on the Win 7 computer,

then select the Details tab. If the installation is successful, then you should see this message.
