To select the BAAN database driver level

The Baan IV application communicates with the database via a database specific driver. This driver translates application queries into (database) native SQL queries, hence the application is database independent.

Level 1 driver

Level 1 means that the Baan database driver splits complicated Baan SQL statements into simple queries for the database server in an optimal way. So, the optimization of the SQL statements is done by the Baan software instead of the database.

Level 2 driver

A level 2 driver receives all queries from the Baan Virtual machine and sends these queries almost directly to the database (for example the SQL RDBMS) If applicable the driver adds a hint to the query for optimal execution by the database engine.

For more specific information about the two levels, please refer to the “Technical Reference Guide for Microsoft SQL Server Database Driver” (U8173 US)

Before you start to install BAAN IV, you need to decide if you want to work with the Level 1 driver or Level 2. Changing a level after the installation needs a conversion of the whole database. By default, the Baan SQL driver runs in Level 1 mode, but it is recommended to use Level 2.

Note that good performance can be reached if the database is tuned correctly.

Page 21: Installation Guide for Baan IVc4 on Microsoft® SQL Server

This chapter lists the hardware and software requirements to install Baan IVc, and describes the following:

Hardware and software requirements

Procedure to install the Baan IVc software

For the latest detailed information about the installation of Baan IVc please, refer to the Deployment Guide for Baan IV (U7949 US). It is important to review this document so you will have the correct installation steps at hand.

Hardware and software requirements

The following software must be installed and running before you can install Baan IVc for Microsoft SQL Server:

Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 must be installed and running.

The database management system Microsoft SQL Server Version 2000 must be installed and running as described in Chapter 1, “MSSQL installation and configuration.” Be sure to have Microsoft SQL Server version 2000.

2Chapter 2 Installation of Baan IVc

Page 22: Installation Guide for Baan IVc4 on Microsoft® SQL Server

2-2 | Installation of Baan IVc

The database server must contain 2 GB of free disk space to accommodate the database devices for Baan IVc: a full install requires less than 1 GB for the tables and 200 MB for the log devices. Although 2 GB is enough for the initial installation, this setup leaves you with hardly any additional space for new data, for example, new data that is created during a test.

The Baan IVc application server must contain 600 MB of free disk space to accommodate the Baan IVc software, including demo companies.

Baan IVc requires at least 8 MB of main memory (RAM) per user.

The network software must be installed and running.

Note 1: For performance reasons, Baan recommends that you spread the data, log, and temp devices across several disks.

Note 2: Because the Baan IVc services are started during the installation of Baan IVc BackOffice, a network interface card must be installed in your system before you install Baan IVc. Although the network interface card need not be connected to the network, the Baan IVc network-related services will not start if a network interface card is not detected.

CAUTION: Although you can install Baan IVc on both NTFS and FAT file systems, Baan strongly recommends that you install the Baan IVc software on an NTFS file system.

If you use a drive formatted as a FAT file system, the allocation units are 32 KB because FAT cannot handle the number of allocation units required to reduce the size to 16 KB or less. As a result, each file will consume at least 32 KB, which results in a waste of disk space. If you use a FAT file system, you run the risk of filling the disk long before you might expect. The NTFS file system enables you to format a disk with 1 KB allocation units (or even 512 bytes), which results in a more efficient use of the disk space. Baan advises you to use allocation units of 1 KB.

To set up the Enterprise Modeler

This section describes how to configure the Enterprise Modeler. This chapter explains the following:

Configure the printer to print the diagrams.

Define the run-time resource settings to display the diagrams.

To set up the printer settings

Perform the following steps to set up the printer to print the diagrams (diagrams must be printed on a PostScript printer).

1 Log on to Baan IVc and run the Maintain Paper Types (ttaad3110m000) session to add the paper type PS.

2 Run the Maintain Device Data (ttaad3100m000) session to add one or more devices with paper type set to PS. Note that these devices must write directly to a PostScript printer, for example, by using the hp_lj4 driver. Example values, as defined in the Maintain Device Data session, for a device able to print the diagrams include the following: Device Type: Printer Driver: hp_lj4 Device queue: pr8006 Paper Type: PS

To define the run-time resource settings

The way in which the editors and the process flow menus of the Enterprise Modeler are displayed depends on the run-time resource settings for the Enterprise Modeler. If, for example, a process flow menu does not fit on the monitor, you must use the Maintain Run-time Resources (ttdsk3160m000) session to modify the resource settings. To start this session, you can click Resource Settings on the Options menu in the Enterprise Modeler editor, or open the Miscellaneous menu of the Desktop Management module in Baan IVc Tools.

You can use the session to define user-specific run-time resource settings for the Enterprise Modeler, such as fonts, colors, sizes of editor components, and default options.

Page 56: Installation Guide for Baan IVc4 on Microsoft® SQL Server

3-24 | Post Installation tasks

The run-time resources for the Enterprise Modeler have been divided into the following four groups:

Organizer resources, relating to the complete Enterprise Modeler

Organization resources, relating to the Organization Model Editor

Process resources, relating to the Business Process Model Editor

Function resources, relating to the Business Function Model Editor

You can always restore the default value of the settings by means of the Restore Default option on the Application menu in the Maintain Run-time Resources (ttdsk3160m000) session.

One of the most important resource settings for the Enterprise Modeler is the Display Identification field, which is one of the resource settings in the Organizer group. You cannot zoom in this field, but the following combinations have been predefined and can, therefore, be entered in this field:

10 inch 640x480

10 inch 800x600

10 inch 1024x768

12 inch 800x600

14 inch 640x480

14 inch 800x600

17 inch 1024x768

17 inch 1280x1024

20 inch 800x600

20 inch 1024x768

20 inch 1280x1024

22 inch 1280x1124

The modified display identification settings become active the next time you start Baan IVc.

To define new display identifications, you must use the Maintain Display Identifications (tgbrg1120m000) session: Enterprise Modeler menu Master Data Miscellaneous.

Page 57: Installation Guide for Baan IVc4 on Microsoft® SQL Server

Post Installation tasks | 3-25

Because of this session, the size and resolution of the editor screens in the Enterprise Modeler are set to the type of monitor that is used.

Another important resource setting field for the Enterprise Modeler is the Normal Font field, which is also one of the resource setting fields in the Organizer group.

To uninstall Baan IVc software

The Baan %BSE% installation directory, for example, c:\baan. Files created after the installation of Baan IVc Back Office, such as log files, user configuration files, and temporary files, remain in the BSE directory. You can safely remove the entire BSE directory from the system.

Baan-specific registry entries. You must remove the following registry items:

Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Baan

Registry values BSE, BSE_REM and BSE_TMP: All under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Environment

The Baan IVc program folder on the Start menu. To remove the folder, use Windows Explorer and remove the Baan IVc directory under <WINNT>\Profiles\<User>\Start Menu\Programs

Delete the <Windows directory>\Baan6.1.lic file.
