Introduction The Physical Activity Analysis Software (PAAS) and the Physical Activity Analysis Software
Basic (PAAS Basic) is designed to analyze recorded data from the Lifecorder EX (Activity
Monitor) in order to analyze your daily lifestyle activity.
Additionally, PAAS Data Editor can be used for data base editing and the LCEX Setup can
be used for sending setting information from a personal computer to the Lifecorder EX.
These functions are included as the utility programs of PAAS.
Please refer to page 58 for PAAS Data Editor and page 63 for LCEX Setup.
System Requirements The below mentioned environment is required to operate the Physical Activity Analysis
Software. (PAAS and PAAS Basic)

Caution: Applicable for English Version Windows Operation System (OS) only. PAAS is not useable under the following OS environment (Windows95,
Windows98 and Windows NT). Suzuken does not guarantee error-free operation under the condition of that is modified or deleted any parts of the Windows Operation System.
Attention: The utility programs PAAS Data Editor and LCEX Setup are not applicable for PAAS
Basic.

Install the Software
Follow the following steps below to install the software.
1. Insert the CD and the following window will appear automatically. (Sample of
Windows XP)
2. The following window will appear. Click the Next> button to proceed to the next
step.

3. The following License Agreement window will appear. Click the Yes button if you
agree, otherwise click the No to cancel the installation.
4. The following window will appear. Please enter your PRODUCT KEY mentioned on the
CD-ROM case.
Click the Next> button to proceed to the next step.
Attention: If you input the PRODUCT KEY incorrectly, the following window will
appear. Please try again to input the correct PRODUCT KEY.

5. The following [Choose Destination Location] window will appear and specify the
destination folder that you want to install. Click the Browse button if you want to
change the location.
Click Next> to proceed next step if you don’t want to change the destination.
6. The following [Select Program Folder] will appear. Click the Next> button to
proceed to the next step after you change the folder name or select an existing folder
from the list depending on your preference.

7. The following Setup Status window will appear during the installation.
8. The following Successful Installation window will appear. Click the Finish button to
complete the installation. A shortcut icon for operation of PAAS is shown on
your Desktop.
Caution: When reinstalling or upgrade the software, previously stored database will be deleted. If you want to restore the database, please backup the database before reinstallation. Refer to page 105 for backup and restore the database.

USB Driver Install Confirmation
1) When connecting the Lifecorder EX to a personal computer using Windows XP Service
Pack 2 for the first time, by connecting the USB cable enclosed, the following window will
appear. (Not applicable for Windows 98SE, Windows Me and Windows2000)
Select [No, not this time] and then click the Next> button to proceed to the next step.
2) When connecting the Lifecorder EX to a personal computer using Windows XP and
Windows XP Service Pack 1 for the first time, by connecting the USB cable enclosed, the
following window will appear. In case of using Windows XP Service Pack 2, the following
window will appear after the above-mentioned window.
Select [Install the software automatically [Recommended]] and click the
Next> button to proceed to the next step.

3) During the installation, the following window will appear
4) The following window will appear. Click the Finish button to complete the USB
driver installation confirmation.

Uninstall the Software 1. Select [Settings] from the start menu. Then, select [Control Panel]
(Sample of Windows XP)
2. The following window will appear. After clicking the [Control Panel],
click [ Add or Remove Programs].
Caution: When reinstalling the software, previously stored database will be deleted. If you want to restore the database, please backup the database before uninstallation. Refer to page 105 for backup and restore the database.

3. The following window will appear. Select [Physical Activity Analysis Software
V1.0], then click the Change/Remove button.
4. The following window will appear during uninstalling of the software.

the program.
Caution: When uninstalling the software, previously stored database will be deleted. If you want to restore the database, please backup the database before uninstallation. Refer to page 105 for backup and restore the database.

Explanation of each menu bar
[Edit] - [New Group] is for new group registration that user belongs.
- [New user] is for new user registration.
- [Edit Group] is for editing group information.
- [Edit User] is for editing user information.
- [Delete Group] is to delete group information and data.
- [Delete User] is to delete user information and data.
[Display] - [Alphabet (Ascending)] is to show user icons in alphanumeric ascending order
from the User List.
- [Alphabet (Descending)] is to show user icons in alphanumeric descending order
from the [User List].
- [User Reg. (Ascending)] is to show user icons in registering ascending order
from the [User List].
- [User Reg. (Descending)] is to show user icons in registering descending order
from the [User List].
[Job] - [Download] is to download data stored in the Lifecorder EX to a personal
computer.
- [Report] for viewing analyzed reports.
- [Print] for printing analyzed reports.
- [Export Data] for making a CSV file for export.

[Go To] - [Home] to return to the top menu.

User List A User List will be displayed by clicking the Main button on the Top menu.
(1) Navigation Window
Display menu bar shows following functions: ([Edit], [Display], [Job], [Go To], [Option],
[Help], [End]) and tool bar.
(2) Group icon Window
Display a group by selecting the group icon that is registered using the icon.
A new group folder can be selected from the menu by clicking the icon
located second from the left on the menu bar.
Downloaded data not specified to a group folder will be saved to the [Owner] folder.
The last user group selected will be displayed under the [Owner] icon with other icons by
order of registration date.
(3) Group Information Window
To display the selected group name and comments that is input.
(4) User icon frame
To display a user icon belonging to a selected group folder.
Nickname/ID (if registered) is displayed under the user icon. If a Nickname/ID is not
registered, First Name/Middle/Last name will be displayed.
The user icon is displayed from the upper left-side selected by [Display] in the pull down
menu.

Job Menu The Job menu will be displayed when a user icon is double-clicked.
(1) User Information Window
Display a selected user name, group name, Nickname/ID (if registered) and comment.
Return to the User List by clicking the icon.
(2) Job Window
The following 4 Job icons are displayed when a user is selected from the user list.
[DOWNLOARD]: Downloads recorded data from the Lifecorder EX to a personal
computer manually.
[REPORT]: Displays all reports as per the user’s selection. Reports are displayed
within the area (2) of the Job Window.
[PRINT]: To print a summary report.
[EXPORT DATA]: To make a Data file for data exportation. (This function is not
applicable for PAAS Basic.)

Basic flow from download to print out
(1) Click the icon on the desktop and connect the USB cable with the Lifecorder
EX to a personal computer. Then click the Download button. If [Auto Download] is
set, data is automatically downloaded when the Lifecorder EX is connected to a
personal computer by the USB cable.
(2) A [New CPU] window will appear when connecting the Lifecorder EX to a personal
computer for the first time. The software recognizes the user depending upon CPU
number of the Lifecorder EX.
* Click [Select From the User List] if you want to download data to the user already
registered.
* Click [User Registration] if you want to download data as new user.
* Click [Cancel] if you want to cancel downloading.

(3) The below mentioned window will appear when clicking [User Registration] in the
previous window. Input the user information as per below mentioned window.
Click Registration to proceed to the next step after inputting the user information.
Caution: (1) First Name and Last Name are required. (2) The value of Target Steps, Activity Minutes and Average Food
Intake will be reflected on a report for each user. (3) If you don’t have any information regarding the kcal in your diet,
please consult a specialist. (4) The data will be saved in the [Owner] folder if a group name is not
previously registered or selected.
Attention: The Value of Target and Food Intake in the above boxes are default levels
that are automatically set. If you do not change the default value, each
value will be reflected in the reports.

(4) The following window will appear when downloading.
(5) When download is complete, the following window will appear.
Click the OK button to proceed to the next step.
(6) Click the [Main] button on the Top menu and the following [User List] will appear.
Double-click on the user icon where data was downloaded.

(7) The following [Job Menu] will appear. Click the in order to display
reports.
(8) 6 reports: ( Daily Steps & Activity, Daily Energy Expenditure, Activity Level,
Weekly Average Step Counts, Weekly Average Activity Minutes and Daily Physical
Activity) are available for viewing. Refer to page 34 to 44 for an explanation of all
reports.
(9) Click the to print out a summary report.

(10) The following window will appear in order to set the starting and ending dates of the
period that you want to print out. Click the Print button after setting the period in
order to print out a summary report.
Download Data from the Lifecorder EX Case 1 from Top Menu: Download data from the Lifecorder EX by clicking the [Download]
button on top menu and the user will be recognized based upon the CPU NUMBER of the
Lifecorder EX automatically.

Case 2 from User List: Download data from the Lifecorder EX by clicking the icon or
[Download] in Job pull -down menu on [User List]. The user will be recognized based upon
the CPU number of the Lifecorder EX automatically.
Case 3 from [Job Menu]: Download data to the selected user from [User List].
Caution: In case different users use the same Lifecorder EX as the selected user, recorded data of the selected user will be replaced by the last user. Please reset the Lifecorder EX. (Refer to the page 24 of the Lifecorder EX operation manual)

Group Registration (1) Click the [Main] button on top menu and [User List] as shown below.
If you don’t need any group registration, all users will be saved in the [Owner] group.
This function is useful for dividing group by category, etc.
(2) Click the icon in the tool bar menu or [New Group] in [Edit] pull-down menu.
After that, the following [Group Registration] window will appear.
(3) Input the group name and comments and select your preferable group icon from the
[Select View Icon] options.
(4) Click the Registration button to complete. A group name will be displayed under the
group icon.

User Registration (1) Click the [Main] button on Top menu and [User List] as shown below.
(2) Click the icon or [New User] in the [Edit] pull-down menu in order to register a new
user. After that, the following window will appear.

Click the Registration button to complete the user information.
A user name will be displayed under the user icon.
Edit Group information (1) Click the [Main] button on top menu and [User List] as shown below will appear.
The selected group icon is shown as a dimmed color.
Caution: (1) First Name and Last Name are required. (2) The value of Target Steps, Activity Minutes and Average Food Intake
will be reflected on a report for each user. (3) If you don’t have any information regarding the kcal in your diet,
please consult a specialist. (4) The data will be saved in the [Owner] folder if a group name is not
previously registered or selected.

(2) Click the icon or select [Edit Group] in the [Edit] pull-down menu.
The group modification window will appear.
(3) Click the Set button after completing the group information modification.

Edit User Information (1) Click the [Main] button on Top menu and the [User List] as shown below will appear.
The selected user icon is shown as a dimmed color.
(2) Click the icon or [Edit User] in the [Edit] pull-down menu. User Modification
window will appear. Click the Set button after completing the user information
modification.

Attention: If you want to move an individual user icon to different group, drag and drop
to another group folder.
Caution: (1) First Last Names are required to be input. (2) The value of Target Steps, Activity intensity, and food intake will be
reflected on the report. (3) If you don’t have any information regarding the kcal you take from
your diet everyday, please consult a specialist. (4) Data will be saved in the Owner group folder if a group name is not
previously registered.

Delete Group Information (1) Click the [Main] button on Top menu and the [User List] as shown below will appear.
The selected group icon is shown as a dimmed color.
(2) Click [Delete Group] in the [Edit] pull-down menu as shown below.

(2) The following Group Delete window will appear after clicking [Delete Group] in the Edit
pull down menu. Click the Delete button to delete a selected group.
Delete User Information (1) Click the [Main] button on Top menu and [User List] as shown below will appear.
The selected user icon is shown as a dimmed color.
Caution: All user icons and data in the group will be also deleted when a group icon is deleted.

(2) Click [Delete User] in the [Edit] pull-down menu as shown below.
(3) The following User Delete window will appear after clicking [Delete User] in the [Edit]
pull-down menu. Click the Delete button to delete selected user.
Caution: All data for the user will be also deleted when a user icon is deleted.

User Profile Window The [User Profile] window will appear under the following cases.
Case 1:When the CPU number of the Lifecorder EX is already registered, except
when using [Auto Download]
(1) If the user information is OK, click OK and downloading will proceed automatically.
(2) If you want to quit download, click Cancel .
(3) If you want to download data as a new user, click Change User Profile in order to
register new user information.
(4) If you want to download the data as a registered user, click Select From User List
and the recorded data will be downloaded into a registered user database. The [User
List] will be displayed after clicking the Select From User List button and
double-clicking the user icon where you want to download data.

Case 2:If the CPU number of the Lifecorder EX is not registered when downloading
(1) If you want to download the data as a registered user’s profile, click
Select From User List and the recorded data are downloaded into a registered user’s
database. The User List will be displayed after clicking Select From User List
button and double-click the user icon where you want to download data.
(2) If you want to register information as a new User, click the User Registration
button.
(3) If you want to quit download, click the Cancel button.
Case 3: When the specific user icon is clicked in the [User List], and [Download] is selected
while connecting the Lifecorder EX with CPU number that is already registered
as different user profile, the following [CPU Using Alert] window will appear in
order to confirm the user profile.
(1) If you confirm to change the user profile to download the recorded data as selected user,
click the Download button to overwrite the database with the old user.
(2) If you do not overwrite the database, click the Cancel button. Then, registered as a
new user before start downloading.

View Reports Contents of Reports 6 kinds of reports based on the analyzed data from the Lifecorder EX can be viewed and
printed when clicking the icon on the [Job Menu] of the selected user.
(1) Navigation bar
Display menu bar ([Edit], [Display], [Job], [Go To], [Option], [Help], [Quit]) and tool bar.
(2) User information
Display the selected user name, nickname/ID (if registered), group’s name and
comments.
(3) REPORTS
There are 6 tabs options, each report will be displayed for the selected user when
selecting one of the following tabs.
- Daily Steps & Activity tab
- Daily Energy Expenditure tab
- Activity Level tab
- Weekly Avg. Step Counts tab
- Weekly Avg. Activity Minute tab
- Daily Physical Activity tab
Each tab has the following functions shown in the following (4) and (5).

(4) Data period setting button for analysis and view
Specify the period that user wants to see from the saved Database.
1. Click the above mentioned tab and the below mentioned contents will be displayed.
Since last transfer: Display the latest downloaded data report from the saved
Database.
Last 7 days: Display the last 7 days data report from the saved Database. Last 14 days: Display the last 14 days data report from the saved Database. Last 30 days: Display the last 30 days data report from the saved Database. Last 60 days: Display the last 60 days data report from the saved Database. Last 90 days: Display the last 90 days data report from the saved Database. Custom: Specify the period that you want to see.
2. Specify the period (above-mentioned From: and To:) when selecting Custom if desired.
3. Always click the Set button to change the display based upon the data period set.
(5) Print button (Screen print)
Print a single displayed report on a personal computer screen.
The previously set printer in Option is used.
Attention: If you need to print out the summary report, select the icon or
[Print] in the [Job] pull-down menu.

Daily Step Counts & Activity Minutes Reports for Daily Step Counts and Daily Activity Minutes will be displayed within a
specified period shown (1).

Specify the period that you want to see from the saved Database.

Attention: Always click the Set button to change the display based upon
the data period set.
Attention: If you need to print out the summary report, select the icon
or [Print] in the [Job] pull-down menu.
Attention: The actual value of step counts and activity minutes are shown on the
each day bar when the selected period is up to two weeks. Or refer
the actual value to the Daily Physical Activity selecting specific day
data. When achieving the target of steps for a day, color of a bar will
change to orange from yellow.

(3) Daily Step Counts Report
Daily step counts are displayed as a bar graph. Average steps and target steps during
this period are displayed as a horizontal line.
(4) Daily Activity Minutes Report
Display activity time (Moderate – Vigorous) per day in different color depending on
intensity as bar graph. And target activity time is displayed as horizontal line.
(5) The maximum scale value on the graphical chart in step counts and activity minutes
can be modified in the [Option] setting.
Daily Energy Expenditure Display total calorie expenditure and activity calorie expenditure per day are in different
colors on the bar graph. The target of calories expenditure from activity is displayed as
a horizontal red line.
Attention: If you want to confirm the actual activity of a day, refer to the Daily
Physical Activity for specific dates.

(1) Display period setting button

(3) Average Food Intake Cal
The Average Food Intake Cal is displayed as the gray zone when your estimated calorie
intake from food and drink is input in the [user registration] window.
(4) The maximum scale of calorie expenditure volume can be adjusted in the [Option
settings].
Attention: Always click the Set button to change the display based upon
the data period set.
Attention: If you need to print out the summary report, select the icon or
[Print] in the [Job] pull-down menu.
Attention: If you want to confirm the value of actual calorie expenditure, refer to
the Daily Physical Activity for a specific day data.
Attention: The Daily Energy Expenditure is the total calorie expenditure (BMR
plus Activity calories, Thermo-genesis and Micro Activity). The BMR is
called basal metabolic rate meaning the minimum level that your body
needs to function properly and is calculated from age, height and weight.
Activity Cal means the energy expenditure during physical activity.

Activity Level The intensity distribution of the average activity minutes per day and the highest physical
activity day within the specified period for activity intensity level will be displayed as a bar
graph. In addition, the percentage of the elevated minutes from the Light, Moderate and
Vigorous intensity levels will be displayed as a pie chart.

Attention: Moderate Intensity Range can be set in the [Option setting].

(3) Average Physical Activity Level report
Display the average physical activity level per day during the selected period as a bar
graph and percentage of the activity level distribution as a pie chart.
(4) Highest Physical Activity (Day) report
Display highest physical activity day during the selected period as bar graph and
percentage of activity level distribution as pie chart.
(5) The maximum scale value of minutes for the bar graph can be modified in [Option]
setting.
Attention: If you need to print out the summary report, select the icon
or [Print] in the [Job] pull-down menu.
Attention: If you want to confirm each day distribution during selected period,
refer to the Daily Physical Activity for a specific day data.

Weekly Average Step Counts Display the weekly average step counts (Mon. - Sun.) for a selected period. The number of
the average step counts is displayed on the top of each bar graph up to twelve weeks.
The first and last weekly average may not be a full seven days period average due to the
recorded days.

(3) The maximum scale value of step counts for the bar graph can be modified in the
[Option] setting.

This function is for excluding small data during recording in case of not wearing the
Lifecorder EX on a day. This function is designed to exclude data for the average calculation

(1) [Auto Exclusion from Analysis Period]
Specify the conditions for excluding data from the recorded data for analysis and printing
of reports.
(2) [Target Step Counts & Activity Minutes] 10,000 steps and 30 minutes per day are generally recommended as default set target.
However, the target must be adjusted user’s conditions especially for children, elderly
people and patient with medical conditions requires the specialist supervision.
Please analyze your normal activity level first, and then set target improving your

(3) [Food Intake]
Set the estimated food intake per day. If you don’t have any information regarding kcal
received from food per day, please consult a specialist. This is a useful standard to see
energy balance for weight management programs.
These targets will be reflected in the Energy Expenditure report and printed reports.
(3) [Maximum Value For Graphical Chart]
Set the maximum values of graduations for each graphical chart. These values will be
reflected on the viewed and printed reports.
(5) [Moderate Intensity Range]
Set the range of Moderate Intensity for activity. The range will be reflected in the
calculation of Activity Minute. Activity minutes from moderate to vigorous intensity is
accumulated time spending for activity or exercise with intensity from level 4 to 9 when
the moderate range set from 4 to 6.
(6) [Default Date Range]
When viewing reports, recorded period of last 14 days are displayed on screen as
default setting.
Caution: The target value of activity minutes shown on the above display may not suitable for all users. Do not follow the sample target value without consulting a medical specialist if the user has a medical condition or is taking medication.
Attention: The target value of steps and activity minutes and food intake are initial values, so if you change the values of an already registered user in the option setting, these values will not be reflected in the reports. If you want to change these values, you must edit user information in the [Edit User] in the edit pull down menu in [User List].

(8) Store the [PAAS] as shown below into your desirable destination for backup. That’s the completion for backup of the database.

11. Restore the backup database* *Not applicable for PAAS Basic
Follow the (1) to (8) steps of 10. Backup for the database. Then, copy and paste
the backup database files into the same folder that is reinstalled or upgraded the
software.
Caution: Current database will be deleted when restore the backup database.
