    IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

    Installation Instructions

    For Your Safety

All rough-in and spacing dimensions must bemet for safe use of your range. Electricity to therange can be disconnected at the outlet without

moving the range if the outlet is in the preferredlocation (remove lower drawer). To reduce the risk of burns or fire when reachingover hot surface elements, cabinet storagespace above the cooktop should be avoided. Ifcabinet storage space is to be provided abovethe cooktop, the risk can be reduced by installinga range hood that sticks out at least 5 beyondthe front of the cabinets. Cabinets installedabove a cooktop must be no deeper than 13 .Be sure your appliance is properly installed andgrounded by a qualified technician.

    WARNING:To reduce the

risk of tipping, the appliance mustbe secured by properly installing

the Anti-Tip bracket packed with theappliance.

If you pull the range out and away from the wallfor any reason, make sure the Anti-Tip bracket isengaged when the range is pushed back againstthe wall.

WARNING All ranges can tip Injury to persons could result Install anti-tip bracket

packed with range See Installation Instructions

WARNING: For personalsafety, remove house fuse or opencircuit breaker before beginning

installation. Failure to do so could resultin serious injury or even death.

Inspect Installation LocationRefer to alternate construction sectionfor the following non-standardinstallations.a. Counter opening extends to

the wall:Maintop Filler (supplied with therange.) (See page 15, section AA,for Installation Instructions) orBackguard (Kit JXS36XX orJXS39SS). See page 15.

    b. Counter height greater than36-3/4 :Lower Trim Slide-In (Kit JXS56XX).

    c. One side is not enclosed bya cabinet:Bodyside (Kit JXS76XX).

    d. Island Installation:To provide an optimum installation, the top surface of the countertopmust be level and flat (lie on the

same plane) around the 3 sidesthat are adjacent to range cooktop.Proper adjustments to make thetop flat should be made or gapsbetween the countertop and rangecooktop may occur. Forcing thecooktop to fit may cause excessivegaps and could break the glassand void the warranty.

If cabinets are placed less than 30 above therange, see Alternate Construction, section AF,on page 16.

30 ranges conform to U.L. requirementsfor 0 spacing from vertical walls belowcountertops. Allow 1/4 minimum clearanceat the back wall above the countertop.

    Installation InstructionsStandard Installation

If the construction of your cabinet cannotprovide a 1/4 flat area at the back of thecountertop opening, consider changing thecountertop to accommodate this dimension.See Alternate Construction section. If the areais not flat, excess tension may be applied tothe glass cooktop, causing breakage andvoiding the warranty.

Center the 30 wide opening over theadjacent cabinets and mark with astraight edge.

Using a straight edge, mark the back lineat 23-3/16 from the front edge of thecounter.

Be careful not to damage the adjacentcabinets while cutting the countertop.Use a hand or saber saw to makestraight smooth cuts.

    Installation InstructionsElectrical Connections

ALL NEW CONSTRUCTIONS,MOBILE HOMES ANDINSTALLATIONS WHERELOCAL CODES DO NOTALLOW GROUNDINGTHROUGH NEUTRAL,REQUIRE A 4-CONDUCTORUL-LISTED RANGE CORD.

You must use a 3-wire, single-phase A.C.208Y/120 Volt or 240/120 Volt, 60 hertzelectrical system. If the electrical service provided does notmeet the above specifications, have alicensed electrician install an approved outlet.Use only a 3-conductor or a 4-conductorUL-listed range cord. These cords may beprovided with ring terminals on wire and astrain relief device.A range cord rated at 40 amps with 125/250minimum volt range is required. A 50 amprange cord is not recommended but if used, it

should be marked for use with nominal 1-3/8

diameter connection openings. Care shouldbe taken to center the cable and strain reliefwithin the knockout hole to keep the edgefrom damaging the cable. Because range terminals are not accessible

after range is in position, flexible serviceconduit or cord must be used.

NOTE: If conduit is being used, go to Step 3Dand then to Step 6 or 7. On some models, a filter capacitor may be

connected between the black and whiteleads on the junction block.

    ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS

CAUTION: For personal safety,do not use an extension cord with thisappliance. Remove house fuse or opencircuit breaker before beginninginstallation. This appliance must be supplied with theproper voltage and frequency, and connectedto an individual properly grounded branchcircuit, protected by a circuit breaker or fusehaving amperage as specified on the ratingplate. The rating plate is located above the

storage drawer on the oven frame.

We recommend you have the electrical wiringand hookup of your range connected by aqualified electrician. After installation, havethe electrician show you where your mainrange disconnect is located.Check with your local utilities for electricalcodes which apply in your area. Failure towire your oven according to governing codescould result in a hazardous condition. If thereare no local codes, your range must be wiredand fused to meet the requirements of theNational Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70 Latest Edition. You can get a copy by writing:

National Fire Protection AssociationBatterymarch ParkQuincy, MA 02269

Effective January 1, 1996, the NationalElectrical Code requires that newconstruction (not existing) utilize a 4-conductor connection to an electric range. When installing an electric range in newconstruction, follow Steps 3 and 5 for 4-wire connection.
