There is just one point to be noted: if you are planning a wedding in a Parador, we stronglyrecommend making the arrangements as far in advance as possible since Paradors are verypopular for weddings and special events.

Important information to consider when arranging a wedding abroad:

• Civil weddings: Spanish law requires that either the bride or groom has to be registered as a Spanishresident for at least two years prior to the wedding, or owns property in Spain. Divorcees can apply fora civil wedding as can widowed partners.

• Religious weddings: All paper work for religious weddings is prepared in the UK and neither partnerneeds to be a Spanish resident. For catholic weddings either the bride or groom must be catholic andneither partner can be divorced. It is possible to marry through other churches in Spain but couplesmust comply with the civil requirements and should normally be a member of the local church.

• Marriage blessings: For most UK residents, those who are not catholic nor own property in Spain, itwill be necessary to have either a civil wedding in the UK or in Gibraltar which can then be followed bya marriage blessing in Spain.

This information is correct at time of printing but please check with the local authorities before proceeding with your wedding plans. (July 2009)

Keytel International can put you in contact with the relevant authorities to register and arrangeweddings and marriage blessings.

Carmona and its attractionsLocated on a low hill overlooking a fertile plain, Carmona is a picturesque, small town with amagnificent 15th century tower, the Iglesia de San Pedro, built in imitation of Sevilla's Giralda. This is the first thing you see and sets an appropriate tone for the place. At the entrance to thetown is the Puerto de Sevilla, a grand if ruinous fortified gateway, which leads to the historic oldpart of the city. Within the wall, narrow streets meander past Mudejar churches and Renaissancemansions. Up still further is the Plaza San Fernando, which is comparatively small but dominatedby splendid Moorish style buildings, behind here is a bustling market. Close by to the east is SantaMaria, a stately Gothic church built over the former main mosque, whose elegant patio isretained. Like many of Carmona's churches, it is topped by an evocative Mudejar tower and partof the original minaret can still be seen.

Not surprisingly, given its proximity, Carmona shares a similar history to Sevilla, and was animportant Roman city, which, under the Moors was often governed by a brother of the Sevillanruler. Any trip from Carmona must, inevitably, start with Sevilla. Here you can immerse yourself inthe tradition and splendour of this city - wander around the narrow cobbled streets and discoverthe diverse cultures that have occupied Andalucia throughout the centuries. In Sevilla a visit tothe old quarter of the city, with the Cathedral and the Giralda tower at its heart is a must. You canclimb the steps inside the tower for a magnificent view of the City. Very close by are the royalMudéjar palace known as the Alcazar with marvellous gardens and the Santa Cruz quarter, withstreets filled with flowered balconies, richly decorated façades and hidden patios. Sevilla is theperfect location for some memorable photos of your whole wedding experience and the perfectplace for romantic evenings and excursions
