The term August is derived from the Greek term ‘Augustus’, which means ‘to inspire’. It was based on this that August Man Malaysia embarked on its first ever Men of the Year issue, concluding the year with the celebration of 10 distingu ished individ uals from various industries who have made significant achievements over the past year. These 10 men represented the best of their field. Among them who attended were Joe Fli zzow for Music, Bob Chua for Entrepreneur, Casmad Sanuri for Style, Hans Isaac for Theatre, Ivan Lam for Artist, and Niki Cheong (of The Star ) for Social-netwo rking; others were Afdlin Shauki for Film, Ragunath Kesavan for Activist , Henry Goldin g for TV and Sazali Samad for Sport. “We believe that it is the right group to launc h what we hope will become a yearly affair,” said Rubin Khoo, editor of August Man Ma laysia. Each of the participant walked away with a RM1,000 voucher from Thomas Pink, a special custom-mad e trophy with hisnameinsc ribe don themeta lplateand a framed photo of the August Man Men of the Year cover. Throughout the black-carpet event, over 250 guests, including the who’s who of KL society, industry movers and celeb- rities such as Marion Caunter, Camilia , Hansen Lee, Daniel Tan and Daphne Iking (who was the event emcee), were treated to delectable cocktail food and champagne. It was indeed a night to reme mber whe n Joe Flizzow pumped up the crowd with an energy- filled perform- ance of Do It, Do It from his late st album, President . As a token of appreciation, a lucky draw was held where a guest won a luxury watch from Edox. Theevent instant lybecame thetalk of the town. Computers and mobile devic- es were provided for guests to send their comments and messages to the August Man Twitter page, which was instant ly shown on the screens. At the same time, cigar connoisseurs were indulged with premium cigars spon- soredby Trinidadwhilelounginginthe gentlemen’s corner.
