The Tregenna Castle Resort offers 72 acres of secret gardens and woodlands to explore with something to inspire the hearts and minds of people of all ages within and around the Castle grounds. Onsite facilities include Castle Kids, rated outstanding by Ofsted and a favourite amongst children who enjoy the many activities on offer as well as by parents looking for that break. The Resort also has a great partnership with local surf schools dotted along the Cornish coast, so if you fancy a lesson, you will be standing in no time.
Enjoy a dip all year round in the indoor swimming pool, and in our outdoor heated pool between May and September. Knock a ball over the net at the outdoor tennis courts, just a short walk from Castle Approach. There’s also badminton and squash, together with the challenging 18-hole President’s Golf course, which must surely be one of the most scenic courses in the country offering simply breathtaking views across the harbour and beaches.
Take a break at lunch, or finish off a fun fuelled day with a bite to eat in Tregenna Castle’s Restaurant or Brasserie, each offering an exciting collection of sumptuous menus inspired by international cuisine whilst showcasing local produce. Overlooking the dreamy seaside town of St. Ives with breathtaking views of some of Cornwall’s finest beaches greeting its famous coastline is Tregenna Castle – a wealth of history constantly in the making. Its native name alone holds a special meaning of “the dwelling at the entrance” that originates from an Irish maiden who once crossed the ocean to reach this enchanted land. The name itself comes from the hill on which it resides, and from years ago was most likely chosen for its suitable prominence to keep watch for marauders.
In 1774, Samuel Stephens, Esquire of St Ives built Tregenna Castle as his home with architect John Wood of Bath, and master builder Daniel Freeman of Penryn. Built using local granite, it originally only had twelve bedrooms, with a further ten added in 1844 to create the magnificent mansion it is today. It remained in the Stephens family until 1888, whereby it was sold and a new chapter in history began. Rented by Great Western Railway, Tregenna Castle became a hotel for the first time for visitors travelling on the main line from St. Erth to St. Ives. Today, the hotel still bestows many of its original features, alongside the transformations that have seen it become one of Cornwall’s most treasured hotels with wonderful panoramic views overlooking its famous coastline.
