Inspiration to Bring Your Room to Life.
Add elements to your décor that help the space thrive, according to your own style and to the latest trends. Every home tells a story. What does your home say?
We’ve included tips from some of our top designers who have a knack for making the ordinary look extraordinary. We can guarantee that there is
absolutely no shortage of style among this group!
We believe every home should include these 6 Core Decor Must Have’s.1. Wall Art
2. Mirrors
3. Lanterns
4. Metal Accents
5. Pillow Covers
6. Florals
Look around your home. Are you missing 1, 2 or all
6? We’re here to help rescue your room and
show you how to make it WOW.
Do you love walking into your home? What feeling does it create?
A few easy rules will help your room flow smoothly and
create an eye appealing look.
Rule 1: When decorating with wall art over furniture,
the art should not be wider than the width of the
furniture. The art should be about 75% the width of
the furniture, as a general guideline.
Rule 2:
When hanging your art work, the center point of the piece or grouping should be approximately at eye level.
Think of groupings as a single unit. For example,
you may want to consider hanging art slightly lower
in a dining room, since you are sitting down when
you are looking at it.
Spacing will also contribute to the look of your wall.
Tip: A grouping of art pieces should be spaced no more
than 6" apart at the most. 2-3" usually works best.
#1 Wall ArtWall Art brings character and
energy to your room. Blank
walls are boring. Create a visual
walkway for everyone who comes
into your home with wall art.
Do Don’t
Wall art is beautiful in a wallscape or gallery look.
Rule 3:
When creating a wallscape, you want your pieces to complement each other.
For example, colors and design should complement the other pieces rather than having multiple color families
and messages. You wouldn’t want to have a scripture quote, next to a rock band poster, followed by a sparkly unicorn
picture and a family photo from 1961. You would view that gallery and wonder to yourself what story were you
looking at? Create a variety of visual appealing pieces and choose those that work together to tell a story.
When you are creating a grouping on your wall and
you are using four or more pieces, one above the
other, you will want to follow what designers call the
vertical line rule. This means that the
collection should be visually balanced on both
sides of an imaginary vertical line.
Too much ‘weight’ on one side or the other
will make the group seem unbalanced.
Again in this scenario, it is a good idea to make
sure the art is similar either in color scheme,
frame style, or subject matter to keep your look
cohesive and eye pleasing. Imaginary Vertical Line

Wall art sets the “theme or mood” for the room décor. For example if you choose a landscape print with trees, this sets the
tone for a more casual relaxing feel to the room. You can add
casual ‘outdoorsy’ feeling accessories, such as lanterns made out of wood,
casual grasses in floral arrangements and leafy patterns in pillows,
rugs, and window treatments. If you choose a floral still life print, it will
have a more feminine feel to the room and you can add accessories such
as glass, light metals and flowers in the floral arrangements.
A rustic print with a barn, windmill or cabin in it will give you a very casual
and rustic feel to the room. Accessories would be in galvanized metal, rustic wood lanterns and trays
in wood or rustic metal, and lots of texture in pillows, rugs and as window treatments.
Designer Tip!
This makes mirrors the perfect design element for
small spaces. Many homes have a table in an entry,
foyer, living or dining room to fill an empty space.
Use this space to create a display of photographs and
other accessories. Functionally, these tables are often
the landing place for the family shopping lists, car keys
and notes to each other. From a design perspective,
they can also become the perfect place for a mirror.
#2 MirrorsDecorating with mirrors makes a room look and feel larger.
Cherlynn P.Senior Executive Director
A mirror above a piece of furniture becomes
the perfect foundation to create a wallscape using
personal photos, wall art or word art.
Mirrors are often placed above furniture because they help complement the furniture and add balance to the decor.
Designer Tip! Mirrors can make a room look larger, so it’s great to have a mirror in a smaller space. If you have a large wall that needs something bigger, a mirror will
fill that space perfectly. I love large statement mirrors in a grouping
on a large, open wall that needs more personality. Mirrors can also
dress up an entry or a mudroom. In addition, before you leave you
can do a quick check to make sure you are looking good. Mirrors
bring versatility too. Several of our mirrors lend themselves to be
used as a table top centerpiece. You can be creative and use them
on a dining room table and dress it up with accessories. You might
never think to use a mirror on a table top, but it can really create
an eye catching WOW piece.
The truth of the matter is that these options are
endless – you’re only limited by your imagination!
Lanterns are available in a wide range of all styles
to coordinate into any décor. And please, don’t
think that placing a simple candle in your lantern
will be boring.
When lit, battery operated candles will produce a warm glow and give the whole room a pick-me-up.
Many candles even have a timer so that
they automatically come on and turn off!
How great is that!?
Lanterns can be used individually or in groups.
They should be mix and matched with other
styles and sizes to create a grouping. They are
the perfect accessory to line a porch stairway
or on the porch itself. They can also be hung to
create another fabulous look.
#3 Lanterns Lanterns are one of our favorite
accessories to decorate with.
Amy N.Director
Lanterns are year-round, must-have items. You can change your look by changing how you accessorize
your lanterns. Change it for every single season! You’ll have
the same lantern, but it will look different from spring to
summer and from fall to winter when you change your florals
or what you put inside the lantern. Maybe you use white
flowers in the summer and change to red flowers for
Christmas. If you aren’t a flower person you can accessorize
with candles, ribbon and momento Lanterns are a very poplular
trend in decorating.
Designer Tip!
Metal is a tried and true décor staple. It has become
more popular with the farmhouse trend, but doesn’t
only fit into that décor style. Metal adds a texture
that is eye catching and unexpected.
#4 Metal AccentsMetal isn’t just for rock bands.
Cindy E. Team Leader
The colors of metal accents often blend well into every décor and are easy to mix and match.
Metal accents can be a subtle accessory in a corner or the focal point and a statement piece.
Designer Tip! Metal accents easily coordinate with many décor styleswith the most popular being the Farmhouse look! A few of
our metal accents can be decorative as well as functional.
For example, a galvanized pot that includes a removable plastic
liner can be used as an ice bucket, as well as a floral (real or
artificial) container. Don’t be afraid to mix metals in different
colors. Adding a galvanized piece and a black/brown metal
piece in the same room adds interest and blends together for
a pleasing look to the eye!
They’re both functional and pretty, which is the perfect combination when decorating your space.
Group in odd numbers like 3’s or 5’s.
Odd numbers will help provide a balance
to your room.
For example, you might try 3 pillows on each side
of a sofa or go big and add 5 on a bed.
#5 Pillow Covers Decorative pillows add a special finishing touch to your room.
Use different colors and patterns in the grouping. Add more visual interest and a range of textures.
Use pillows to provide pops of color in a
mostly neutral room.
Pull colors from other items in the room,
like art, drapery, or accent pieces to
move the color story through the room.
Debbie L.Senior Representative
Pillows really are one of the quickest, easiest & most inexpensive ways to freshen up any room! Whether you are going from season to season or simply updating
or changing an accent color, pillows are the answer. I love how we can
re-purpose the pillows that we already have, especially for seasonal
decorating. Pillows add texture to sofas, chairs and beds so easily.
I fully believe they are a must have for the finishing touches to
a beautifully decorated home!
Designer Tip!
The quality and appearance of faux florals look so
lifelike oftentimes we will have to touch them
to feel if they are real or not!
When decorating with faux florals, you don’t have to
be the perfect floral designer. Just like real flowers,
faux flowers look better when they are not “perfect”
(good news for all of us). You’ll want to make sure that
you bend the stems a little this way and that way until
you love the arrangement and you’ve created a natural
look. Real fresh flowers don’t have perfect leaves and
stems, so your faux flowers shouldn’t, either. They will
look better when they are not perfectly arranged or
symmetrical. Scrunch them up and move them around.
#6 FloralsFaux florals have come a long way, baby!
Janet B. Director
Use florals in three’s, five’s and so on. A mix of
different flowers in colors that complement each
other looks more natural.
One key to creating a WOW floral is to have a
“stand out” flower, a few secondary flowers, filler
like leaves smaller buds or branches.
There’s no denying that faux florals can bring the
perfect finishing touch to your décor!
When decorating with florals, like other home décor favorites, odd numbers always look better.
Designer Tip! Florals are a must have and especially perfect to decorate with because you don’t need a green thumb to keep them looking fabulous.
Faux florals add life to every space you add them and a burst of
color. Combine them to create an arrangement to create a WOW
piece that draws everyone’s attention. Even if you think that you
can’t work with florals, you can just plop a few pieces in a vase
and they will look good. You don’t need to be a floral designer
to make a good looking arrangement. Just always remember to put
the larger stems in the back, medium height in the middle and the
shorter stems in front. Following this placement you will easily
create florals that WOW.
You’ll also find that florals are a good accessory for some of the
other core décor pieces too, metal, lanterns and mirrors!
