Reinhard Mohn ( 2009) founded the Bertelsmann Stiftung (Foundation) in 1977. His belief that wealth entails social responsi- bility serves as the basis for our work.

Our goal is an equitable society defined by democratic values, stable economic condi- tions and social integration. As a result, we are committed to helping people participate

in our globalized world.

Un sistema educativo es bueno solo cuando es eficiente y, al

mismo tiempo, ofrece oportunidades equitativas para todos y

todas. Apostamos por una concepción integral de la educación

que permita la participación y el desarrollo individual con

independencia de las circunstancias personales y del origen

social o étnico de cada persona.

En lo que se refiere a la participación y la igualdad de

oportunidades, entendemos la educación como un proceso

que dura toda la vida y nos ocupamos de la educación infantil,

en las escuelas, durante la formación profesional y en las

instituciones de educación superior, sin olvidarnos del impacto

de la digitalización.

Educational systems are only effective if they result in quality

outcomes and offer everyone the chance to succeed. We

promote holistic attitudes toward education that make social

participation and individual achievement possible, regardless

of personal circumstances or social and ethnic background.

We examine the influence that education, as a lifelong

process, has on participation and equitable opportunities.

We also address issues relating to early childhood education,

schools, vocational training and higher education, as well as

the impacts of digitization.

La democracia tiene la obligación de generar mayores oportunidades de

participación y de luchar contra la amenaza que supone la fragmentación

social. Apostamos por una democracia diversa con una mayor transparencia y

participación de la ciudadanía y una política sostenible.

Gracias a nuestros análisis y a las plataformas de diálogo que ofrecemos,

fomentamos la educación para la democracia en la sociedad civil, ya sea a nivel

nacional (en guarderías, escuelas y en los municipios) o internacional (por ejemplo,

con instrumentos como el índice de transformación BTI y los Indicadores de

Gobernanza Sostenible o SGI).

Democracy is under pressure to develop more opportunities for citizen

participation and to counteract threats to social cohesion. We are committed

to helping create a diverse democracy that offers increased transparency, more

citizen involvement and sustainable policy-making.

Through our analyses and dialogue events, we work to build democracy in civil

society – nationally in preschools, schools and communities, and internationally

with tools such as the Bertelsmann Transformation Index (BTI) and Sustainable

Governance Indicators (SGI).

ellos. Abogamos por una mejora de la aceptación de la UE y por reforzar su

capacidad de acción.

In times of global economic and social change, we need a forward-looking

Europe – one that protects its citizens and ensures they can participate in

global economic and technological advances, while also making it possible

for them to get involved. We are committed to improving the EU’s ability

to take action and its level of acceptance.

We want new forms of citizen participation that go beyond voting. Using

studies, surveys and indicators, such as eupinions and the Social Justice

Index, we develop recommendations for a range of areas, including

security and foreign policy, economic and financial policy, and regional

and social policy.

Germany’s health-care system is highly effective when compared

to others around the world. At the same time, it must respond to

new challenges. To do so, it needs health-care consumers capable

of making informed choices, care provision that reflects actual

needs, and a stable financial foundation. We are committed to

helping achieve that goal.

La cultura, la tolerancia y la igualdad de oportunidades constituyen los pilares de nuestra

convivencia como sociedad. Promovemos la diversidad cultural y el entendimiento entre

culturas y apostamos por una convivencia activa y pacífica en nuestro país, y sobre todo a

nivel local, en los municipios.

Desarrollamos programas para promover valores y fomentar la cultura y la integración y

para ello nos valemos, por ejemplo, de la capacidad que tiene la música para crear vínculos,

lo que cristaliza en nuestros proyectos de formación musical en las etapas de educación

temprana o en concursos como «Neue Stimmen» (nuevas voces), que promocionan a

nuevos talentos del mundo de la ópera.

Culture, equitable opportunities and tolerance are the foundation of communal life. We

promote cultural diversity and intercultural understanding and we work, especially at the

local level, to ensure Germany’s communities are vibrant and peaceful.

We develop programs that build values, enrich culture and facilitate integration. We do this

using various resources, including music’s ability to bring people together, as in our music

education projects for children and our “Neue Stimmen” activities, which support young

opera talents as they launch their careers.

Tanto a nivel nacional como internacional, abordamos la transformación

del mundo laboral, desarrollamos propuestas con las que fomentar la

responsabilidad social corporativa y una cultura empresarial sostenible

mediante debates y estudios, e investigamos cómo está afectando la

digitalización al mundo laboral y económico en el que vivimos.

Globalization and knowledge-based societies bring prosperity – and

the need for greater international understanding. We work to promote

fair competition and goodwill and ensure a viable future for coming

generations.

We address changes in the world of employment on the national and

international levels. We use discussion events and studies to develop

recommendations for promoting forward-looking corporate cultures

and corporate social responsibility. We also explore how digitization is

transforming the economy and the way people work.

En la Bertelsmann Stiftung centramos nues-

tro enfoque en seis ámbitos temáticos priori-

tarios, llevados a cabo en más de 70 proyec-

tos que hemos diseñado e iniciado nosotros

mismos. Somos una entidad independiente

y no partidista.

En la fundación trabajamos en red, con je-

rarquía horizontal , donde el trabajo en equipo

tiene una importancia crítica. Evaluamos de

manera contínua nuestros esfuerzos y respon-

demos a los cambios con nuevas ideas e inicia-

tivas. Nuestros proyectos están diseñados para

el medio plazo, así podemos reaccionar

de manera flexible a los retos que surjan.

Publicamos los resultados de nuestro trabajo

en un amplio abanico de medios, también en

nuestra página web. Entendemos esta tarea

como una contribución al debate público

democrático. Finalmente, son la política y la

sociedad quienes deciden sobre nuestras pro-

puestas de reformas.

Para alcanzar los mejores resultados, trabaja-

mos en colaboración con socios, por ejemplo

científicos, organizaciones políticas o sociales,

At the Bertelsmann Stiftung we address six

core issues. To do so, we are currently carrying

out more than 70 projects which we have ini-

tiated and designed ourselves. We are

independent and politically nonpartisan.

Within the foundation, we use networked

processes and flat hierarchies; teamwork is

also of critical importance. We reexamine our

efforts on an ongoing basis and respond to

change with new ideas and initiatives. Our

projects are designed for the medium term

so we can react flexibly to challenges as

they arise.

We make our findings available to the public

using a range of media, including our website.

We view this as our contribution to democra-

cy’s public debate. Policy makers and society

at large have the final say on our proposed

reforms.

To achieve the best results, we work with

numerous partners – other think tanks, for

example, as well as academic experts, political

institutions and civil society organizations.

This is how we ensure optimal impact.
