Leading up to his year’s event, CREW Orlando saw a record number of nominations for awards due in part to the fact that our membership has become so engaged at the committee level. Liz Root’s tireless recruiting efforts bear this out. With such a great slate to pick from, determining the winners was a daunting task. Kelly Eger and her group of judges were given the difficult job of choosing winners from nearly 50 worthy submissions! The theme of “Back to Business” really rang true.

This year’s Celebration of Champions also had a record number of attendees, topping one hundred members and guests. The Citrus Club proved to be an excellent venue for the event. The program began with President Jackie Bozzuto thanking all of our 2011 sponsors, as well as our two events sponsors. Many thanks go to Herman Miller, Inc. and Window Interiors for specifically sponsoring Celebration of Champions. Ms. Bozzuto went right into recognizing the awardees.

RISING STAR:Beverly Currin Bell VOA Associates Incorporated

When Beverly joined CREW she immediately joined not one, but two committees: Member Services and Programs. She is committed, as well as active on these committees, even volunteering to be the program lead for the August program. Her firm sponsored the event and she successfully executed a flawless breakfast program. COMPANY OF THE YEAR:Akerman SenterfittWith three current, very active members and a 2011 platinum sponsorship, Akerman Senterfitt exemplifies a CREW Orlando company of the year. Add to that the fact that Akerman Senterfitt has provided annual sponsorship support of CREW Orlando over a number of years, they have several senior-level staff heavily involved in CREW (two of which are past presidents!), they put together a program for the national convention, and one of their staff will be on the CREW Orlando 2012 Board, and you clearly have a company who continually promotes the goals and mission of CREW.

NETWORKING DEAL OF THE YEAR:UBS Financial Services Regions Bank Building Betsy Owens Cushman & Wakefield, Inc.

Natalee Gleiter Jones Lang LaSalle Americas

This deal was several years in the making and included collaboration between Ms. Owens and Ms. Gleiter that lasted more than 10 months. The final negotiations resulted in a 10-year deal to keep UBS Financial Services in the 111 N. Orange Avenue building and striking a full floor arrangement. The deal also included a new café and fitness center. The value of this lease deal was approximately $4.6 million.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT:Karen Moorefield HuntonBrady Architects

It is a true testament to the success of CREW Orlando that there was such an impressive list of eligible candidates for this award. However, one name quickly came to the forefront – Karen Moorefield. Ms. Moorefield received ten nominations for this award, including one with a four-page summary of all her CREW accomplishments! As one of those nominations stated, “The heart that Karen put into CREW Orlando cannot be illustrated in numbers or statistics.” Other quotes included, “Without her, I don’t think we [CREW] would be the prominent and respected organization that we have become known as today,” “She is one of the most organized and dependable people I have had the privilege to work with,” “Karen embodies the ideals of CREW by her support of its members in business referrals, keeping her company engaged in the organization and most profoundly by her heart of service,” “She is a great role model to new board members,” and “we all … consider her a very dear friend and colleague.” Congratulations Karen!

Ms. Bozzuto then unveiled her winners for the President’s Award. Mya Hatchette of Winderweedle, Haines, Ward & Woodman, P.A. and Sarah Kelly of Wayne Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. were recognized for their involvement in CREW Orlando this year.

This year marked our 20th annual CREW Golf Tournament. As announced during the event, it was a huge success, raising more than $13,000 for the CREW Orlando Scholarship Endowment fund for Valencia College. None of this would have been possible without our sponsors, players, tee parties, and volunteers! The four 2011 scholarship recipients were all on hand to accept the check: Kallawatti Maharaj, Claudia Sellas, Jasmine Stanford, and Cheryl White.

Ms. Bozzuto gave a heart-felt thanks to the 2011 Board of Directors and then turned the program over to Mary Pat Dunleavy, in-coming president, to introduce the 2012 board of directors.

The Celebration was later concluded by Ms. Bozzuto with words of thanks for all we achieved in 2011 and resounding support for our goals in 2012.

Students are introduced to the myriad of career opportunities in commercial real estate

On a recent Saturday in November, over 50 Central Florida high school girls attended CREW Orlando’s 6th Annual CREW Careers program held at the City of Orlando City Hall. The young women had the opportunity to gain knowledge of the skills to take the first steps toward a successful career in the commercial real estate industry from many of Central Florida’s leading businesswomen, including a keynote address by Mayanne Downs, City of Orlando City Attorney and immediate past president of the Florida Bar.

One of the high points of the day included a tour of the City of Orlando, LEED Certified Green Building, Fire Station No. 1. Attendees heard first hand from the industry professionals and City staff who played pivotal roles in the design and development of this cutting edge project. The girls also got college counseling advice and encouragement from a panel including Caitlin Sabell, a UCF junior engineering major and granddaughter of CREW Orlando member Jan Rothfeld.

CREW Careers Program Chair, Valerie Jahn Grandin was elated with the generous support of all the event sponsors, particularly our partner, the City of Orlando, and major sponsors, Shutts & Bowen, RSM McGladrey, Inc., Morrison Commercial Real Estate, Popular Community Bank, Emerge Real Estate Ventures, LLC, and our luncheon sponsor for the last three years, Tijuana Flats. Nothing would have been possible without the CREW Careers Committee members and all the volunteers from CREW who gave up an entire Saturday for this outstanding event.

A Conversation with Mayor Teresa Jacobs: The New Face of Orange County Government

Mayor Jacobs gave CREW Orlando members a unique look at where she pulls her inspirations from to be a woman in politics and what’s really important.

We are all faced with life balance issues daily. Mayor Jacobs spent the majority of her first year in politics being afraid to fail her constituents. Her calendar filled with business first. Near the end of the first year, the great realization for her was that she couldn’t afford to fail at raising her children. Being with her children made her a better person. Her integrity, values and family made her make better decisions every day. She spoke of her family as a mirror, who she could look at every night to make sure she was doing the right thing.

She told a heartwarming story of her daughter in school who stood up for her values with conviction. The values were taught to her by her mother. It wasn’t until sometime later that, at the time, Commissioner Jacobs was faced with the same test of values. She recalled her daughter’s experience and used that for strength and rose to do the right thing, again, with values and conviction.

In he candid conversation with Mayor Jacobs, she admitted going into “Mom-mode,” something many in the room identified with.

Some great questions were posed to Mayor Jacobs:

One of Mayor Jacobs’ funniest memories was flipping a chair over backwards while rocking prior to a commission meeting. Apparently she ended the flip in her pant suit with a stylish finish.

Her most memorable moment was running across several lanes of traffic to break up a bus brawl with a local TV reporter and TV crew on her heels.

We want to offer Mayor Jacobs many thanks for her candid and insightful discussion, and a special thank you to Commercial Air Conditioning, Inc & Commercial Electric for sponsoring the October luncheon.

One If By Land, Two If By Sea: How Port And Rail Expansions Are Driving Florida’s Future

Panelists for our September program featured Doug Wheeler, president at Florida Ports Council; Bob O’Malley, resident vice president, Florida State Government and community affairs at CSX Transportation; Q.J. Arnold, Florida transportation operations manager at UPS; and moderated by Heather Rodriguez, attorney at Holland & Knight, LLP.

The program kicked off with an update from Bob O’Malley who spoke on CSX’s current plans working with JAXPORT intermodal facility on total automation of the port. Distribution centers are important for expansions – working with developers in bringing distribution centers to nearby areas. CSX is developing A-line tracks and a logistics center in Winter Haven to accommodate freight and auto transport clients into a central location. The Winter Haven facility should serve similar to an inland “port,” and 318 acres of development are going on right now with additional land for distribution or light manufacturing.

Doug Wheeler with Florida Ports Council stated that this is an exciting time for ports and international trade. He attributes this to Governor Rick Scott being an advocate of the 15 public seaports. All kinds of products come through Florida ports. Waterborne trade is at 70 billion dollars in 2010 and this accounts for half of all international trade in the State that provides tax revenue of 1.7 billion annually. He also mentioned that port business is competitive. The port in Savanna in GA is bigger than four of Florida’s ports as far as the volume it takes in yearly. Job creation from ports is on the upward swing because of cruise ports with Florida having two of the biggest cruise ports in the Country. Real estate around these ports areis active.

Five to six ports in Florida have projects underway now with 3 to 4 inland port projects to come.

Q.J. Arnold touched on plans for expansion at UPS, stating that growth is coming. Inland districts can expect growth from the ports and plenty of land available around the current rail lines for expansions. The needs are dock rail facilities such as in Savanna, GA. Not all ports need to be deeper to accommodate ships; they need to be able to triple the increase in loads they can process in order to grow.

Thank you to Window Interiors for sponsoring our September luncheon.

CREW Networking Story - Sodo

Nominees Involved in Deal:Betty Crovato, CREW Orlando Tanya Creekmore, CREW Atlanta Emily Zinaich, CREW Orlando Karen Moorefield, CREW Orlando Kristin Brown, CREW Orlando Window Interiors, CREW Orlando

The CREW connection began with a joint venture project between North American Properties (in Atlanta) and Kimco Development/Realty Corporation seeking Orlando office brokerage representation. An introduction was made by a previous CREW past President (2006) Betty Crovato between North

American Properties and Emily Zinaich with Morrison Commercial. This notable project resulted from an interesting networking lineage that began with the awarding of the exclusive office leasing assignment to Morrison Commercial Real Estate with Emily Zinaich, leading the SoDo office space leasing efforts. After Morrison Commercial received the SoDo leasing assignment Emily suggested that North American and Kimco bring on an interior architectural team as early as possible in the project for the office space component. One of the firms recommended by Emily Zinaich and eventually awarded the contract was HuntonBrady Architects (2008). Leading the commercial and interiors marketing group, Karen Moorefield, Director of Corporate Development worked with the architectural and interiors team to prepare and participate in the interview presentation which included CREW member Kristin Brown, IIDA LEED AP who became the Interior Design Project Manager on the Orlando Orthopedic project as well as a firm commercial architect.

2009 – Emily leases 44,000 RSF to Orlando OrthopaedicOrthopedic - $18.5 million value; Kristin Brown, Hunton Brady designed 25,000 SF admin/clinic space; Jan Rothfeld, Creative Space & Management – moved Orlando Ortho; Awarded 2009 Networking Deal of the Year

Ultimately thru Christine Cutler’s efforts during her time with Window Interiors, Window Interiors provided the window treatments for all of Orlando Ortho’s space in Sodo.

2010 – Orlando Ortho – Expanded 1400 SF - $148,396.00 Orlando Health leases – over 13000 SF – $1.6M

2011 – Orlando Ortho – Expands another 5000 SF - $1.3M Orlando Health leases – 36,000 SF (office and ground floor space) - $4.2M Ultimately Leased approx. 100,000 SF valued at over $25M

CREW contacts worked in two separate projects, one involved the Orlando chapter and the other project involved the Miami and Orlando chapters. The first was a large scale acquisition of 4000 acres to be developed as a mixed-use development. A California developer had contacted Akerman and was also looking for planning, transportation and civil engineering consultants. Based on my relationship with Kathy Leo through CREW, I recommended Kathy for the civil engineering. Not only was

then Post,BuckleyPost, Buckley, Schuh and Jernigan (now Atkins) selected for the civil engineering, but also they were hired to do the planning and transportation work. This project received the CREW award.

The second project involved Julie Williamson, a partner in Akerman’s Miami office. Although partners, Julie and I really got to know one another through CREW. Julie was an active member of CREW Miami and for several years we attended the Annual CREW convention as either a delegate or Foundation Board member. When Julie received a call to act as local counsel from a Cleveland law firm who represented Developer’s Diversified Realty (DDR) on a shopping center project, she called me. Not only did we represent DDR in doing its due diligence, Akerman also represented them in a foreclosure action to acquire the property. We continued representation of them and have done the land use work to obtain approval of a Master Plan for the project which plans to start construction as soon as final permits are obtained. This will be the first new shopping center in Orlando this year. Thomas Gould, also a CREW member at the time, was also involved. This project won the Miami CREW networking award for a deal over 2 million.

CREW ORLANDO AUGUST PROGRAM, CONTINUED

I took time to look back over the 11 years I’ve been in CREW and realized during those early years, I got to know Natalee Gleiter when she was with Pizzuti (who is still a client of ours) and Sandy Chace when she was with Duke-Weeks and Emily Zinaich who was with Colonial Properties at the time. It is great to

know that 11 years later I am still working with all three of them.

An additional project that our firm got because of a CREW connection is the Maitland Summit III, a 211,000 sf Class A office building. Natalee introduced our firm to Liberty Properties in 2005. We have since designed this $50M+ project as well as some of the interiors for FIS. We still maintain a strong relationship with Liberty. I took a look at the current membership and can say that I am working with 18 members either as clients, consultants, or resources – furniture, carpet, window coverings. Advice - Just get involved and engaged. You can’t be passive especially nowadays with the market as it is. I would rather do business with someone that I have a professional and personal relationship with. I like the competition and rewards of working with CREW members.

Thank you to VOA for sponsoring the August Program!

FROM THE PODIUM CREW ORLANDO MEMBER SHARES HER EXPERIENCE CREW NETWORK CONVENTION & MARKETPLACE

Liz Root

I want to express my deepest appreciation to

the CREW Orlando Chapter for the opportunity they gave me to attend the CREW Network Convention & Marketplace, September 14-17, 2011. This was a wonderful experience for me on both a professional and personal level.

The conference provided top notch national speakers with a variety of professional specialties. They spoke of their past and current experiences and what is needed from our industry to face the challenges of today and tomorrow’s economic needs. Some of the trends, though not always positive did provide some hope and insight on how the economic recovery is in process. My favorite speaker, Diane Swonk, provided an economic outlook for commercial real estate using humor and examples. She is currently utilized by the major networks for her thoughts on current changes on the economy, most frequently on ABC World News with Dianne Sawyer.

The educational sessions were numerous and information rich. There were two sessions that I was most impacted by, one was a learning excursion away from the conference center and the other regarding government contracting for women owned businesses.

The learning excursion was a bus tour of the Capital Riverfront which is a new mixed-use neighborhood on the Anacostia River. The tour provided the opportunity to see the actual development, speak with the

team who put this project together and learn about the challenges they faced. It was also a great way to have three hours with other CREW Network colleagues having similar interests and the conversation never stopped flowing.

As I explore my next professional endeavor, one session in particular stood out: “Closing Business with the Federal Government.” The session provided insight of the recent positive changes to help support women-owned businesses, the work available from the government and how the federal procurement process works. From what was shared in the session, I believe there is exciting work opportunities for me as an individual and joint ventures with other CREW Network colleagues which I am so excited to explore.

Finally, the relationships that I had the opportunity to either start or further develop. I had the opportunity to meet some very seasoned professionals from all over the United States, who were very generous to share their knowledge, introductions and willingness to help in my job search. I felt the most impactful was the time I got to spend with my local Orlando CREW members. I continue to learn more about their expertise and how we can help each other, on either a personal and professional level.

Having had this experience at the national convention, I would encourage all my CREW Orlando peers to consider attending at some point of their career as this was such an enriching experience.

As I write this letter it is hard for me to believe that a year has come and gone. I thank you for allowing me the honor and the privilege to serve as the President this year. It has been my privilege to work with an incredible group of people at both the Board and Committee levels, who have worked so hard to organize and implement programs, events and newsletters this year. It has been my honor to get to know each of you better. It is my hope that you have gotten to know each other better and have, in fact, given each other leads and worked together professionally.

If that has happened, I have achieved my personal goals for our organization this year.

Our elections are complete and your Board for 2012 has been installed. I encourage each of you to continue to be involved and if you have not been involved, to become involved, so that you can maximize your member in CREW Orlando. It has long been my philosophy that the most effective marketing is found in helping others achieve success. I encourage each of you to continue

to think of fellow CREW members and those that you have meet through CREW when an opportunity presents itself to refer potential business to clients, customers or business acquaintances. It is through helping others that we achieve success. In addition, I encourage each of you to continue to network with one another and ask each other for business.

I welcome the opportunity to continue to serve on the Board as Immediate Past President and support your President and my friend, Mary Pat Dunleavy, as we shepherd CREW Orlando into 2012 and our 25th anniversary as an organization.

I wish each and every one of you prosperity and success into the coming year._________________________________________

7TH SPECIAL FORCES COMPLEX TURNS OVER WITH A SHOW

On October 14, the Southeast District of Hensel Phelps Construction Co. took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony at the 7th Special Forces Complex at Eglin AFB, Florida which was kicked off with the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute

Team “The Black Daggers” parachuted down to hand the ribbon cutting scissors to the Commander of the 7th Special Forces Group, Col. Antonio M. Fletcher. Several dignitaries as well as the Southeast District Manager, Kirk Hazen, took part in the ribbon cutting event. Recognition was given to the entire staff of both Hensel Phelps and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their hard work and dedication to complete this World Class facility for the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

In August, the Hensel Phelps team at Eglin AFB, Florida achieved substantial completion on all three contracts. Along with the development of the 500 acres, Hensel Phelps was involved with more than 30 buildings on the complex ranging in size from a 400 SF storage building to a 120,000 SF Battalion Headquarters. With building turnovers beginning on May 2, 2011 and continuing on until August 1, 2011, the 7th Special Forces Group was able to successfully move their entire group from Ft Bragg down to their new home at Eglin AFB ahead of schedule with no delays. This monumental move was achieved all while conducting active missions in Afghanistan as well as Central & South America which had never been done before in the history of the U.S. Military.

WELCOME NEW 2011 CREW MEMBERS!Throughout the year, we’re going to recognize all new 2011 CREW Orlando members in newsletters to learn more about their firms and what they hope to gain as members. Welcome!

Imagine my surprise when I received a phone call from CREW member, Sarah Kelly.“We’ve awarded you a scholarship to attend the national conference in

Washington DC,” said Sarah. “And you will be sharing the funds with Liz Root, so we’d like you to room together.” I was so excited. Not only would I be attending the national conference for the first time, it was going to be free and I would get to spend time with my friend, Liz. This was going to be a blast!

The scholarship committee asked me to submit a write-up on my experience at the conference. I had a fabulous time and met many wonderful, successful, enthusiastic women. I highly encourage each of you to attend next year’s event. So to help your experience be the best it can be, I’ve decided to submit a list of tips and tricks for a successful conference:

#1 Bring business cards – not just a stack of cards, but a whole box of business cards! I learned this the hard way. You will meet many women, and they all want to know you! I ran out of cards on the first day. I had to have my office overnight more to me!!

#2 Bring comfortable shoes - you always hear this, but it’s true! I was more concerned about looking fabulous than being comfortable. Big mistake. I looked fabulous sitting on a chair, rubbing my feet! One suggestion is to bring flats in a tote bag, then slip them on throughout the day. The upside is that everyone is in the same boat, so complaining about sore feet can be a good conversation-starter…

#3 Connect with CREW Network members in your company- if you work for a firm with offices across the country, find out if any of them have employees who are also members of CREW Network. My firm has many offices in the US, and as I read through the conference attendee list, I noticed a handful of Grubb & Ellis women who were registered. I had never met any of these women, so I reached out to each one of them (several weeks before the conference). We arranged to get together for dinner and had a fabulous time!

#4 Connect with CREW Network members who you’ve never met…in advance – one great benefit of attending the conference is access to the registration list. I went through it and selected women who I wanted to meet. My criteria was simple: if they had a decision-maker type of title at their firm (such as “president,” “principal,” etc) then I wanted to meet them! Every woman

who I contacted agreed to meet with me. Every one. For those of you in sales, you know that contacting people for meetings when they don’t know you is difficult, and average success rate is around 10%-20%. I had 100% success in scheduling theses meetings! As I learned at the conference, “there are no cold calls in CREW.”

#5 Connect with other business associates - a few years ago, I completed a deal with a CREW Network member from the Dallas chapter. She and I worked together over the phone, but here was the opportunity to talk with her in person. I reached out to her, we set a “date” and discussed some exciting business opportunities. She has been a CREW member for many years, and wins most of her business through her CREW

association. I asked many questions, and took good notes. Sharing ideas is what CREW Network is all about!

#6 Get plenty of rest before the conference- you will definitely not be bored at these events. CREW Network had all kinds of activities lined up for us, including dinners, auctions, dine-arounds, etc. When you include social events with the ladies from your local chapter, dinner with ladies from your company….there is not much time for sleep!

#7 Follow up after the conference- I brought home many business cards. Remember to write notes on the back of cards you get, to remind yourself who these people are. Once I returned to my office, I made a point to email my new friends. I plan to see them at future CREW Network events, and have been invited to attend a CREW meeting in Detroit! The contacts you meet at the convention can be very valuable…but you must take the initiative to stay in touch. Everyone is busy, and out of sight equals out of mind. I’m adding my new CREW friends to any marketing campaigns I do, just to keep in touch with them.

#8 Tell your boss about your success - I contacted Grubb & Ellis’ PR department, told them about meeting with the other Grubb ladies at the conference, sent them a group photo….and we ended up on our company’s intra-net front page for a week! It was a great way to get exposure for myself and my colleagues, plus promoting CREW to other Grubb women. So, for those of you who are considering next year’s convention, I would highly recommend it. 2012 will be in Chicago, 2013 will be in Dallas, and 2014 will be in Miami. Let’s have a great showing from the Orlando chapter!

DELEGATES UPDATE

Addressing the 2011 Council of Delegates at the recent Fall Leadership Summit & Council Meeting in Washington, D.C., CREW Network President

Collete English Dixon recognized delegates for their role in leading a successful year for the organization, “Your leadership,

participation and forward-thinking are the reason we lead the Network that works.” Among its exhaustive list of accomplishments include the development of gold standards for chapters, the launch of CREW Network’s executive level mentoring program, the development of two Playbooks; Gold Standard Chapter and Programs, and the development of CREW Network’s fifth white paper.

As the CREW Network organization continues to grow both in its reach and its stature, the idea that this organization is only as strong as its weakest chapter added a new dimension to the delegates’ focus this year. Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so went the measurement of a successful chapter. With so many definitions of success, chapter leaders needed some standard of measurement by which to determine how their respective chapters measure up against all others across the Network.

Delegates spent the year identifying what they believed are priority areas for a gold standard chapter, defined what each of these priorities entailed and what they

believe should be the “gold standard” measurement for each. Based on the results of these discussions, a CREW Network task force began developing the Gold Standard Chapter Playbook, which will detail what constitutes a gold standard chapter and provide a roadmap to achieving that status. This Playbook will be distributed to the full membership by the end of the year. Delegates also received a preview of the new Chapter Dashboard created by CREW Network that allows chapter leaders to view their chapter’s membership counts, specialty representation, event attendance and more to assist them in measuring their chapter’s progress toward reaching the established gold standards.

Delegates can also expect to receive a Programs Playbook by the end of the year, which will identify best practices, tips and suggestions for delivering strong programming at the chapter level.

The Industry Research Committee has been working diligently on its latest white paper titled “Success and Satisfaction of Women in Commercial Real Estate: Retaining Exceptional Leaders.” The committee identified approximately 20 leading companies in the industry and, together with the 2011 CREW Network Board of Directors, conducted interviews with the CEOs and other top executives at these companies to find out why they believe

women rate their levels of career success and satisfaction lower than men, based on the findings of CREW Network’s 2010 benchmark study. Not only have these interviews resulted in excellent industry feedback and insight into company practices, but it has enabled CREW Network to get its research read by leaders in the industry. Watch for this white paper to arrive by the end of the year.

President English Dixon shared other exciting news with the delegates, which included the announcement that CREW Network has been admitted as a member of the Real Estate Roundtable; a prestigious group of leaders from the nation’s top publicly-held and privately-owned real estate ownership, development, lending and management firms, along with the leaders of major national real estate trade associations. Members of the Real Estate Roundtable come together to address key national policy issues relating to real estate and the overall economy. This is a major step towards raising CREW Network’s stature and influence within the commercial real estate industry.

Delegates Wrap Up Successful Year for the Network

continued on page 18

18WWW.CREWORLANDO.ORG WINTER 2011

Delegates were also the first to learn the results of the 2012 CREW Network Board selection process. Serving with 2012 President Diane Butler of CREW Dallas will be:

• Susan Hill, 2012 President Elect, CREW Houston

• Collete English Dixon, 2012 Immediate Past President, CREW Chicago

• Kris Beason, Director, CREW Seattle & Sound

• Lou Ann Dent, Director, CREW Baltimore

• Lori Kilberg, Director, CREW Atlanta

• Tina Makoulian, Director, CREW Philadelphia

• Judith Nitsch, Director, NEWiRE Boston

• Angela O’Byrne, Director, New Orleans CREW

• Heidi Timken, Director, East Bay CREW

Karin Schulz, 2011 CREW Foundation Chair presented the Foundations outcomes for 2011. Nearly 300 CREW Network members have donated to the Foundation so far this year and CB Richard Ellis has agreed to match donations to the CREW Network Scholarship Fund, up to $75,000 per year. Schulz urged delegates to encourage their chapter members to donate so the Foundation is able to receive the full match. Ten CREW Network chapters have each pledged $20,000 to become founding chapters of the scholarship endowment. These chapters include: CREW Atlanta, CREW Austin, CREW Chicago, CREW Dallas, CREW Denver, CREW Houston, CREW Philadelphia, CREW Seattle & Sound, Vancouver CREW and CREW Washington, D.C. Additionally, Schulz recognized Diane Butler of CREW Dallas and Jane Snoddy Smith of CREW Austin, who each donated to become founding donors of the endowment.

Following the council meeting, CREW Seattle & Sound member Jessica Hickey of 1029 Consulting, Inc. led delegates through a brief exercise addressing the process of incorporating the newly established gold standards into their chapter planning and execution. Delegates were placed into small working groups where they discussed what they believed would be the biggest implementation concerns regarding the standards, what challenges they believed they would face in overcoming the concerns and the simple solutions to dealing with the challenges. Delegates identified concerns ranging from attaining chapter buy-in to balancing competing priorities. The challenges they anticipated facing included fear of change, communicating at all levels of membership and attracting senior members. Once the delegates identified these concerns and challenges, the solutions naturally surfaced; develop face to face relationships, in-person meetings with committees and board members to ensure good communication, and encouraging the use of the chapter’s logo on member business and v-cards, just to name a few.

As delegates wrapped up a very successful year and reflected on their personal and chapter’s contributions to the organization’s progress, it became very clear that CREW Network is living its brand. It’s one thing to claim CREW Network is the Network that works; it’s quite another to prove it. Through the accomplishments of the 2011 CREW Network Delegates, to the forward thinking leadership at every level of the organization, and the members who refuse to settle for “good,” we all share in the commitment to strengthen the CREW Network organization, elevate its brand and prove without a doubt that CREW Network is indeed the Network that works.
