President’s Message
Hello all:
February 28th was our first Image Comp of the year, and became a great success as 10 makers entered 34 images, hoping to win that Best of Show ribbon. It was touch and go as Master Photographers Alison Wachstein & Owen Kassimir critiqued each image, revealing its strong and weak points. You will see the four winners elsewhere in this issue. As in past years, the February Image Comp also included the award of the Best Image of 2016, and Ron Carran has won the Carol Phillips Plaque for his “Solitude”.
THERE IS NO MEETING IN MARCH, replaced by our annual State Conven-tion, upstate this year.
April 25th will have Scott Dere sharing his knowledge of Studio Lighting on Lo-cation – something we ALL need to know.
And on May 23rd, the world-renowned Joe Brady will grace our meeting with his personal hints and tips to improve our work, followed by his famous portraits of rock formations in all colors and shapes.
It’s to YOUR advantage to be a member – to get smarter at every meeting, learning from discussions at your table.
And see about our Summer School Workshop – it will blow your mind, learning from Masters for a week in Geneva. NY.
http://ppsnysworkshop.com/
NOW GO find a friend and invite them to a meeting. YOU GET 5 NICASTRO POINTS (for $$$ towards our State School tuition) when you convince them to join WPPA. Aspiring membership has been extended for one year, so a prospective mem-ber could join us for less (only Partial Dues of $135) thru March of 2018, and have all the State benefits, too,
so GO GET 'EM, to join WPPA.
YOU HAVE TO BE HERE if you wish to talk (and listen) to other photogs tell-ing of their experiences in photography, both GOOD and BAD. You can learn a lot, but to hear, you have to BE HERE, and you might get a job from one of us, too!!!
Isn’t that what it’s all about???
Sincerely, Frank

MEMBERS NEEDING HELP IN A HURRY
If you find yourself in a bind with two shoots at the same time, or unable to fulfill an assignment, look at the “Specializing In” column on our “Finding a Photographer” page in our Website— www.westchesterppa.org . Any one of us could come to your rescue as a shooter (or take the second job off your hands). All members are willing to help, at a moment’s notice, which is why WPPA exists, for each other.
So, when you have a minute, look at the website page and jot down the phone numbers of those in your particular field of interest, in case disaster happens. President: Frank Mohalley

“Demystifying Painting with Photoshop”
Things envisioned in the mind become living art when you
learn to take advantage of the vast potential in Photoshop. A
collection of photos on a single topic can become a way to tell
a story, see the many sides of a single individual at one glance,
or take the mundane and turn it into a gallery piece. Sandra
Pearce, has won numerous awards over the years in state, na-
tional and international levels. Her many years teaching both
traditional art and digital art will help you stretch your creative
eye to make exciting digital paintings come to life as you learn
to take full advantage of all Photoshop has to offer. Things en-
visioned in the mind become living art when you learn to take
advantage of the vast potential in Photoshop. You will learn
color, balance, lighting and creativity. It is not necessary to buy
any other program when you already have the program to paint
like the pros. You will incorporate the techniques of painting
into beautiful art pieces. She will demonstrate the technique she
uses to paint and blend backgrounds for portraits using the mix-
er brushes. You will learn to use all the brushes Sandra uses.
Not only can you paint, but her technique can make retouching
more realistic and faster. She will take an image and teach be-
ginning to end how to make an heirloom art piece. People think
Painter is the only alternative for painting. Sandra would like to
make them aware they already have the program (Photoshop)
and do not have to spend extra money. The learning curve is
less, since you are already comfortable with Photoshop.
“Demystify Painting with Photoshop” and open your mind to a
new concept for your business.
