From STEM to sports, arts to travel, there are many new opportunities for every girl to find her spark. Artists, inventors and designers alike will love the chance to join the Maker Weekend at Jockey Hollow Camp. Girl Scout Brownies will get a chance to program an adorable Bee Bot Robot, in “Brownie Bots.” Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors will get hands-on experience with STEAM concepts, like engineering and design, as they participate in Girls’ Fast Track Races, Powered by Ford. Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors will experience the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia as they travel to the Birthplace of Girl Scouting. Whatever they try, your girls will have fun, while engaging in girl-led, collaborative and hands-on experiences. Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey offers the LINK Patch Program. A Girl Scout is a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™

At Girl Scouts, girls discover who they are, where their talents lie, and what they care the most about. They connect with people in their communities. And they take action to change the world. Through our program, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, girls develop a strong sense of self, display positive values, and seek challenges. They learn from setbacks, form healthy relationships, and identify and solve problems in their communities—unleashing their inner G.I.R.L. every step of the way.

How does she find the power of G.I.R.L. in her?

Girl Scouts teaches girls to empower themselves by engaging in girl-led, collaborative, and hands-on experiences. Guided by supportive adults who help girls pursue their goals, girls participate in a variety of fun and challenging activities. Here, girls will:

All girls in grades K-12 can be part of the largest organization for girls on the planet! At Girl Scouts, we are always counting down to the next adventure. With us, girls make a bunch of new friends and have a ton of new experiences that show them how exciting the world is over and over again.

Whether girls are interested in building rockets, traveling across the country or across the world, spending the night at camp for the fi rst time, or making a difference in their communities, they can do it with us. Alongside caring, committed adults, girls learn new skills and build their confi dence so they are ready for whatever comes next.

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is committed to giving all girls the opportunity to learn, grow, and laugh with us.

MembershipGirl Scouts of Northern New Jersey serves 28,126 girl members in grades K-12 and 15,746 adult members. Nationally, Girl Scouts has more than 2.8 million girl and adult members.

We are committed to serving all girls. Whether she’s 5 or 18, we can help her grow brighter and brighter—from day to day, month to year. We’ve been helping girls shine for over 100 years.

Girl Scout Leadership ExperienceAt Girl Scouts, we believe every girl can change the world. With us, she’ll laugh, she’ll explore, and she’ll make strides—all with friends by her side. A moment when she tries something new can be the moment she discovers something amazing about herself that will carry her towards future success—one that’s all her own to share with the world.

We help girls discover their inner strengths, passions, and talents through hands-on, girl-led activities and events. No matter what a girl is interested in, she can do it alongside committed, caring adults in Girl Scouts. We offer girls the opportunity to dream big and make those dreams a reality through council program activities, troop events, and community take action projects. From healthy living, to science and technology, to environmental awareness and so much more, we help girls start a journey all their own.

HistoryGirl Scouts began more than 100 years ago with one woman, Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low, who believed in the power of every girl. Girl Scouting came to northern New Jersey just a few years after Daisy began the fi rst Girl Scout troop in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia.

Today, we continue her vision of building girls of courage, confi dence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Organizational VisionGirl Scouts of Northern New Jersey will be recognized as the premier leadership development program that nurtures, inspires, and empowers girls.

Girl Scout Levels• Girl Scout Daisy, grades K-1• Girl Scout Brownie, grades 2-3• Girl Scout Junior, grades 4-5• Girl Scout Cadette, grades 6-8• Girl Scout Senior, grades 9-10• Girl Scout Ambassador, grades 11-12

Council Camp FacilitiesAlong with our four service and resource centers, GSNNJ has three camp facilities: Camp Glen Spey in Glen Spey, New York, and Jockey Hollow in Mendham, New Jersey and Lake Rickabear in Kinnelon, New Jersey. Our facilities provide accessibility and opportunities for girls throughout our region.

We know that outdoor experiences are vital to helping girls learn and grow. Through troop and community camping events and summer camp, we give girls the chance to learn about the environment and develop a deep appreciation for nature.

Funding OverviewAnnually, Girl Scout membership dues are $40 per girl and $25 per adult. However, it costs Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey more than $250 per girl to deliver our leadership program, train and support our adult volunteers, and maintain our service centers and camp properties. We rely on the support of generous individuals, corporations, and foundations to help support our organization.

At GSNNJ, we are committed to ensuring that all girls have the opportunity to be Girl Scouts through our fi nancial assistance program. All investments help bring the Girl Scout program to even more girls, because when girls succeed, so does society.

Crochet for Charity & Fun

Learn to crochet. It’s not just for grandmothers! Using only a crochet hook and yarn, girls will learn the basic stitches to create a simple round cap. There are no complicated patterns to read, just a relaxed method of crocheting in the round and measurements to make a cap sized for babies to adults. Girls will work on a cute hat sized for a newborn during class. Many local hospital nurseries take donations of handmade caps for newborns, which is a great opportunity for girls to give back to their communities and earn a charity-based badge or award. Each girl will go home with a crochet hook and yarn needle. A selection of yarn will be provided in class to make the hats. Directions for easy embellishments, such as flowers, ruffles, or bear ears will be provided for girls to make hats for themselves or gifts at home. Fee includes all supplies. GIRLtopia is your invitation to imagine a perfect world! Spend this impactful weekend learning and analyzing different challenges facing girls around our planet. Become an agent of change as we develop an art project together relating to topics you find important. Girls will leave with a take action outline ready to finish the Journey. Leaders are encouraged to bring their facilitators’ guides. The girls' GIRLtopia book is included. This event has all participants engaged in global issues and will require a sensitive issues permission slip, which is available under the forms section of our website. Girls must stay the entire weekend. Late arrivals and early departures cannot be accommodated due to the nature of the information progression and workshop presenters. Leaders are welcomed to take turns for the weekend. Schedules for adults can be accommodated to allow for shared responsibilities/fees. Invest in Girls, Change the World Last year, more than 28,000 girls from Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and North Warren Counties discovered their strengths, connected with others, and took action to make our world a better place. They explored interests from STEM to outdoor adventures to financial literacy and life skills, devoting nearly 50,000 hours of service to our communities and managing the business of selling a million boxes of cookies.

When you give to Girl Scouts, you are giving to more than 28,000 local girls. Here are some highlights of what your generous gift provides:

Girl Scout Troops

Staff-Led Community Programs

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)

Camping and outdoor adventures

Scholarships & financial assistance

Life skills that help girls get ahead

Leader recruitment and development opportunities

for more than 15,000 adult members.

Our membership fees and cookie sales help us serve thousands, but we are still left with a gap of $40 per girl each year to raise. Please show your support and generosity of the Annual Family Campaign and help us serve today’s girls while we recruit, train, background check, and retain the best volunteers. For every dollar received, we’ll invest 87 cents back into the innovative program activities, recruiting and retaining volunteers, maintaining service centers and camp properties, and implementing safety measures for more than 28,000 girls.
