ABOUT THE GAMECHANGER COMPETITION

The GameChanger Competition invites students to test their problem solving, technical skills and creativity over three exciting days. From October 14-16, 2015, over 175 participants will compete across a range of categories, including skills based competitions, an Innovation Challenge and a Business Case Competition. Winners will receive monetary prizes and a potential for internship opportunities. Junior competitions and awards for Grades 5-8 will take place on Wednesday 14 October, while Senior Competitions and awards for Grades 11, 12 and undergraduate students will take place on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 October 2015.

INNOVATION ENGINEERING COMPETITION

• WHEN: Thursday 15 October, 2015• WHERE: Vancouver Convention Centre, West Wing• TIME: Check in 8:30am, set-up 9:00am, judging 11:00am-3:00pm• NUMBER OF PARTICIPATING TEAMS: Ten teams of up to 6• CONTEST DURATION: 4 hours

THE CHALLENGE

Undergraduate students are invited to showcase their technical skills and creativity in this design showcase. Teams of up to six students are invited to present a design project that they have completed during the past 12 months, including a working prototype or model and poster presentation that explains their concept.

TEAM SUBMISSIONS

The Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) value chain is varied and complex. From discovery and extraction to compression and transportation on vessels or pipelines, LNG production requires technological innovation at every facet. Your submission will address a technological challenge encountered along the value chain. From the use of drones to detect leaks and monitor pipeline integrity, to computer systems that measure output and quality of product; from designing a new pump or a compressor, to using new materials for the design and building of pipelines and vessels, the possibilities are endless. Along with your prototype or design, you will need a poster explaining your idea. Be creative and have fun!

ELIGIBILITY RULES

To be able to participate, you and your teammates must be:• Registered at a BC public post-secondary institution• Undergraduate students• Residents of BC

Teams will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, while also ensuring participation from post-secondary institutions across the province.

EVENT PARTICIPATION

All selected entries will be displayed at the Vancouver Convention Centre during the 2015 International LNG Conference where over 5,000 participants are expected. The teams will have the chance to show their innovation solutions to an international group of experts in the LNG field. At least two team members must be able to attend the GameChanger Competition to present their project. However, if possible, we encourage all team members to attend.

EVENT SET UP

Each team that is selected to present their project at the GameChanger Competition will be allocated a 10x10’ display booth with signage indicating their team name and school. They will also have the option to have a table in their booth, along with a chair for each competitor and an easel for their poster. Teams can also request special display items depending on the needs of their project.

PRESENTATIONS

Each team will have up to 10 minutes to present their project with the judging panel. Teams should be prepared to explain their project and demonstrate how their prototype or design works. Teams are expected to engage in discussion with the judges and answer questions about their project.

JUDGING CRITERIA

The submissions will be judged under the following criteria:• Evidence of sound design principles• Relevance of the technology, concept, or design to the LNG value chain• Originality• Overall quality of the submission

PRIZING

First place winners will receive a cash prize of $1,000 per team member with a matching contribution of $1,000 to their school. Second place winners will receive a cash prize of $500 per team member. The People’s Choice award winner will receive a cash prize of $500.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

You and your teammates can submit your idea by following these steps:

1. Choose a design project that you have been (or are) working on over the past 12 months. This can be a project done in a for-credit design course, as part of a co-curricular design activity (e.g. student team competition), or for any other design competition.

2. Prepare a 500-word description of your submission explaining how your project addresses a technology challenge in the LNG value chain. With your description, please include a list of all of the team members who contributed to the project.

3. Prepare a 122cm by 91cm (48X36 inch) poster about your project and save it in PDF format (max 20MB).

4. Take a picture of your prototype.

5. Each team member individually registers for the GameChanger Competition even if they are not attending the event. To do this, visit the ‘Competition’ section at gamechanger.lngconference.ca and click ‘sign up’.

6. During registration, one team member uploads the description, poster and photo. Other team members check a box indicating that the upload has been completed by another team member.

7. Each entry will be evaluated by a panel of LNG experts. The winning entries will be selected to be exhibited at the 2015 International LNG Conference in Vancouver.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Submissions must be completed by midnight on Sunday, September 27, 2015.
