• ELECTRIC VEHICLE COMPONENTS
LS Industrial Systems is fostering the field of EV (Electric Vehicle) components for HEV (Hybrid
EV), PHEV (Plug-In HEV), and FCEV (Fuel Cell EV). The company provides PCU (Power Control
Unit) that controls electrically-driven motors, EV-Relay that turns the power on and off
between batteries and inverters, and an on-board charger that comes in plug-in hybrid cars.
LS Industrial Systems has the world’s top level of technology in the field of EV-Relays, and is
actively exploring the global market by co-working with automobile makers in many other
countries.
• ECO-FRIENDLY ELECTRIC POWER IT
LS Industrial Systems is actively participating in government projects related to green elelctric
power in Korea and playing a leading role in the field of a smart grid, a next-generation electric
grid which optimizes electrical efficiency by combining the existing electric grid with IT. The
production of electric power semiconductors is also a highly value-added field that requires
high techonolgy and ultra-clean facilities, and LS Industrial Systems is making noticeable
inroads in the global market by integrating its know-how (accumulated over several decades
while using the product) with product development.
• NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY
In 1986 LS Industrial Systems became the first Korean company to enter the solar power
generation business. Since then it has remained at the top of the domestic industry due to its
abundant experience in energy delivery and accumulated technology. Furthermore, LS
Industrial Systems recently developed and started to supply a monitoring system that can
remotely monitor a solar power generation system in real-time. The company is also
accelerating its development and business efforts in the field of fuel cells that generate electric
power from hydrogen, an environmentally-friendly energy source.
• ECO-FRIENDLY ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT
LS Industrial Systems is leading the eco-friendly electric equipment market, while abiding by
international environmental regulations, by developing and supplying products like the SIS
(Solid Insulated Switchgear) which has replaced the use of SF6 gas, a leading cause of global

• Power IT Solutions - The Power IT solutions business brings
about intelligentization and informatization of existing electric
equipment. LS Industrial Systems is integrating the electric power
industry with cutting-edge information technology by introducing
digital network system integration technology for entire electric
power systems, from the transmission of power to equipment for
electricity users.
• Equipment for Electricity Users - LS Industrial Systems
manufactures top low and medium voltage electric equipments for
electricity users. The company has always focused on the high
functionality, miniaturization, modularization and digitization of its
products and has already acquired world-class technology. As
proof of this fact, LS Industrial Systems had its watt-hour meters
certified by the ZigBee standard (two-way wireless communication
standards used for American cutting-edge inspection infrastruc-
ture), a first in the world for a product of its kind, and only further
promoting its quality internationally.
• PLT Solutions - LS Industrial Systems entered the power line
telecommunications chip & modem business through an M&A with
Planet, a company which has original technology in the field of
mid and low-speed power line telecommunications (PLT). In the
future, LS Industrial Systems will expand its competitiveness as it
establishes a full product lineup and integrates its existing electric
products with PLT technology.

• Power Generation - LS Industrial Systems has established a
wide range of power generation facilities, including a solar
power system, an electric equipment control & monitoring
system (ECMS) and an isolated phase bus (an ultra-high voltage
current transmission system). LS Industrial Systems has been
working hard to distribute solar power systems everywhere. In
that time it has installed a solar power system at Incheon
International Airport and a solar power plant in Gwangyang,
Jeollanam-do province, while also supplying electricity from
remote islands to secluded mountain villages.
• Power Transmission & Transformation - LS Industrial Systems
develops and produces ultra-high voltage power transmission &
transformation equipment like the gas insulated switchgear (GIS)
and gas circuit breakers (GCBs). In addition, the company has
developed hybrid superconducting fault current limiters and
acquired many patents in Korea and abroad, while applying
environmentally-friendly switchgears to its fault current limiters.
Furthermore, it supplies a vacuum circuit breaker, gas load
breaker switches, automatic transfer switches, and mold
transformers.
• Power Distribution - From low voltage (under 600V) to high
voltage (24kV), LV & MV switchgears ensure high efficiency and
reliability. These panels are then applied to a variety of different

• Power Semiconductors - LS Industrial Systems is developing a
broad range of optimal power semiconductor modules for specific
fields within the electric & electronic industries that include
automotive, new & renewable energy sources, and electronics, and
has established production & test lines for power semiconductor
modules at its Cheonan Factory as well. At present, it is developing
and manufacturing general-use IGBT modules (600V to 1700V),
MOSFET modules (100V to 900V) and Diode modules as it further
expands its product range. LS Industrial Systems is strengthening
its position as a leader in the field of power semiconductors by
carrying out in-house development of application specific power
module (ASPM). LS Industrial Systems has intelligent power
modules (ASIPM) project that has received backing from Korea’s
federal government.
• Photovoltaic Inverters - With the rapid rise in the public’s
interest and understanding about new & renewable energy
sources, a lot of interest and research has been carried out in solar
energy, an alternative, unlimited energy source that leads to less
environmental pollution. Photovoltaic inverters developed by LS
Industrial Systems are grid-connected and have the world’s highest
level of input voltage (800V), while boasting 92.5 percent energy
efficiency. Embedded with EMC filters that shield others from the
noise, LS Industrial Systems’ photovoltaic inverters implement
phase balance control when three units are used on three
respective tracks. The company’s photovoltaic inverters are the
main components in solar housing projects currently being built by
the Korean government, and demand is only expected to increase
in the future. In addition, exports are expected to take off with the
activation of solar energy business in Europe and the Americas. • Drives - Drives are controllers that regulate the gyrational velocity
of motors by changing the frequency of power, saving energy in
the process. LS Industrial Systems was the first company in Korea
to introduce general-purpose drives. Today, it is the indisputable
leader in the market. Over the years it has acquired the highest
number of certifications for high-efficiency drives, while supplying
them to more than 60 percent of the Korean market. Recognized as
an optimal solution, LS Industrial Systems’ highly efficient drives
save energy in various industrial fields by developing and releasing
next-generation products such as high voltage drives and iS7
drives, which provide advanced embedded functions and PLC
(K120S). Medium voltage drives, which LS Industrial Systems
recently developed based on such solutions, are expanding the
company’s share in high value-added markets in the power
generation, shipbuilding, ocean, cement, metal, and plant
industries. The company’s high voltage drives were also the
recipient of a Power Electronics Product of the Year award from the
Korea Institute of Power Electronics in 2008. LS Industrial Systems
is taking off as a global leader by expanding its markets overseas

• PLCs - Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are a general-
purpose piece of control equipment that automatically controls
machinery, facilities and assembly lines by using input programs.
LS Industrial Systems develops and produces various PLCs — from
those that have the fastest processing speed in their class to those
that are the smallest in their class. LS Industrial Systems’ PLCs are
widely applied to various fields, such as automobiles, electric and
electronics, machine and water treatment industries, while also

particular, LS Industrial Systems’ XGT series, developed in 2005

• Railway Systems - As the largest supplier of systems in the field,

Indeed, it developed Korea’s first ATC system, and supplied Korea’s
Gyeongbu high-speed railway with its ATC system for the 1st stage
of construction (and later received the same order for the 2nd stage
of construction). Also, through a consortium with overseas

Airport with Korea’s first light electric railway system, which is

• Eco-Friendly Electric Power IT - LS Industrial Systems is playing
a leading role in the field of smart grids, the essence of
establishing an eco-friendly energy environment and a cornerstone
of green growth. Smart grids (i.e. intelligent electric grids) integrate
existing electric networks with IT, optimizing efficiency and
enabling real-time information exchange. They can maximize the
efficiency of electricity consumption while they optimize the
operation of an electric network, reducing energy loss, enabling
self-healing (so it can repair problems in electric systems on its
own), and controlling electricity demand and supply among
consumer households within a given area. As such, smart grids
increase the efficiency of electric power generation, so electricity

A power control unit (PCU) is a type of powertrain that replaces the
engine of an existing internal combustion engine-powered
automobile. The PCU is a device that controls electrically-driven

The EV-relay, which turns on and off the power between the high-
voltage battery and the PCU, requires special know-how in electric

development phase, so it has enormous potential with the
