InnoMatica Ltd, an engineering R&D company based in Cambridge-UK, has developed and patented the EasyFlow™ hose coupling technology. EasyFlow™ is the only hose coupling technology offering all the following advantages:
• configuration of seals to prevent build up of chemicals or formation of microbial film in crevices;
• no entrapment of chemicals within compartment of the couplings after disconnection;
• no-spill disconnection; • provision of clear flow path allowing:
o pipeline flushing with a plug (pig); o reduced pressure drop and lower energy
consumption; • easy connection under pressure; • streamlined construction without levers
protruding from the body; • easy disassembling for routine maintenance; • internals easy to coat or line; • simple construction; and • ability to finely adjust the flow rate through the
coupling. The EasyFlow™ range of hose couplings is therefore suitable for applications requiring:
• full containment; • cleaning in place (CIP); • handling of fluids with suspended solids of
various dimension and shape; and • the option of line flushing with a pig.
Current couplings are only suitable for some of the above applications due to the following drawbacks: BALL VALVE COUPLINGS
• build-up of chemicals or formation of microbial film in crevices make them unsuitable for CIP;
• entrapment of chemicals in the ball lumen when disconnected;
• not fully leak-free when disconnecting; and • bulky due to the presence of operating levers.
DRY-DISCONNECT COUPLINGS
• internal parts within the flow path make them unsuitable for CIP;
• not suitable for fluids containing suspended solids;
• not suitable for flushing with a plug (pig); • relatively high pressure drop resulting in
increased energy consumption; • requiring a degree of effort when connecting
under pressure; and • bulky due to the presence of the handles.
BUTTERFLY VALVE COUPLINGS
• not suitable for fluids containing suspended solids;
• not suitable for flushing with a plug (pig); and • expensive.
