APPPEXPO 2013Inkjet Ink for Textile Printing
IntroductionTextile inks are primarily water-based, though oil-based dye sublimation, and solvent-based dye sub do exist. Each chemical base has advantages and disadvantages. No one single ink is perfect for everything.
Latex inks are heavy advertised for printing on textiles, but outside these ads, within the textile industry, are not considered textile inks. But where latex inks are better than full-solvent inks or even UV-cured inks would be on wallpaper. Solvent has too many VOCs to release inside a restaurant or office. And UV-cured ink also has residual odor (and chemical release) often days or weeks after printing (depending on the settings and on the ink and on the curing method).
There are three FLAAR Reports on the textile printing equipment at APPPEXPO 2013:
• Textile printers.• Textile inks (the present report).• Printable fabrics (inside the report on media and substrates).
The following photo essay on the textile inks by Maria Reneé Ayau display that most of these are after-market (third-party) inks.
We hope to see you this coming July in Shanghai at APPPEXPO 2014. Not many other expos anywhere in the world have as many disperse dye, dye sub, reactive dye, acid dye, and pigmented textile ink. This is why FLAAR sends five of us to Shanghai to attend APPPEXPO.
