Tips from Mailing Services and UD Printing & Design* Are you prepared for the United States Postal Service (USPS) changes that take effect May 14, 2007? UD Printing & Design and Mailing Ser- vices have essential information that can help you plan your department’s mailings in the most cost effective manner. Before, First Class postage rates were based on the weight of the piece; now, like Standard rates, the First Class rates are calculated based on weight and shape. The USPS has extended the incentives and discounts available for Standard letter-shaped mail to First Class letter-shaped mail. Letter- shaped mail pieces are the easiest to process through the Postal Service’s automated equipment; therefore, letter-shaped mail is less costly. The USPS has classified the mail into three shapes: Letters, Large Enve- lopes and Packages. Other issues to consider are mail piece thickness, as well as the costs of folding, sealing, spot gluing and tabbing, which can interfere with automation. Every effort should be made to redesign your mail piece for total automation compatibility. It is important to rethink the design of your mailing at the beginning of the planning process, taking into consideration USPS’s latest changes. UD Printing & Design, in conjunction with UD Mailing Services can help you design your mailings to meet the new criteria. Now is the time to update your mailing lists as well, because the quality of the address placed on the piece will have to be verified through Delivery Point Validation (DPV) to ensure the address exists in the USPS database. On August 1, 2007, your mailing will qualify for automation discounts only if your addresses are DPV encoded. UD Printing & Design and Mailing Ser-vices have essential information that can help you plan your department’s mailings in the most cost effective manner.

Before, First Class postage rates were based on the weight of the piece; now, like Standard rates, the First Class rates are calculated based on weight and shape.

The USPS has extended the incentives and discounts available for Standard letter-shaped mail to First Class letter-shaped mail. Letter-shaped mail pieces are the easiest to process through the Postal Service’s automated equipment; therefore, letter-shaped mail is less costly.

The USPS has classified the mail into three shapes: Letters, Large Enve-lopes and Packages.

1957 Anniversary 2007

Campus Copy Center celebrates its 10th birthday in new location

The Campus Copy Center moved April 4, 2007, to a highly-visible location in the main lobby of the John F. Kennedy Student Union (KU).

From this central vantage point, Copy Center staff intend to provide improved customer service to students, departments and visitors, and as a result, hope to increase their business.

The Campus Copy Center was established in 1997 as part of UD Printing & Design. One of the main reasons for opening a Copy Center at the University of Dayton was to provide students with convenient, safe and economical copy services. Another reason was to conserve University resources by centralizing most of the copying and reducing the number of copiers on campus.

For your one-stop shopping convenience, the Campus Copy Center can initiate orders for UD Printing & Design as well as for UD Mailing Services.

The Copy Center employs two full-time workers and, during the school year, at least ten part-time students.
