3Corporate Social Responsibility

From our Managing Director

It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving – Mother Teresa

This is exactly what our organisation thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions (India)

Private Limited ensured, when we had the opportunity to help, based on the

announcement by the Government of India regarding the Corporate Social

Responsibility Scheme (CSR), for Corporates.

Most of our employees were eager to give back to society and as an organization

we did our best to reach the weaker sections of society.

We decided to focus on Healthcare and Education to start with, and carried out

our CSR work under the 'Behatar Swasthya Suvidha Pariyojana Programme'. This

included aid in the form of medical equipment to a number of Municipal and

Public Hospitals. These Hospitals were in dire need of such equipment, but could

not procure the same due to lack of funds! Our timely help gave a boost to these

Hospitals who can now serve the masses, more effectively by reaching an

increased number of patients. In the coming year, we plan to contribute to

Education by providing an institution with educational materials, including

computers, so that they can cover more children in their education programme

meant for the financially-weaker sections of society.

It was heart-warming to see the joy and happiness on the faces of patients who

were treated with the “state-of-the-art” equipment provided by our organization.

Also, I must mention the happiness and the kindness of our CSR team which

consisted of highly-motivated and energized volunteers who not only ensured that

the medical equipment were procured from the best suppliers, but also followed

proper procedures to ensure the highest quality standards!

We hope that we could serve society in a small way. I am personally thankful to all

our employees who participated in the CSR Projects as well as the Management

and Staff of the Hospitals, who gave us the opportunity to do so !

Sincerely

PD SamudraManaging Director

30 Syringe Infusion Pumps for dispensing automated medicated doses to infants children were handed over to Dr Avinash Supe, Dean of the KEM Hospital and Dr Mukesh Agrawal, HOD Pediatric Ward in the presence of Doctors and Medical Staff. The KEM Hospital’s Pediatric Ward is a fairly advanced facility. The infusion pumps will not only decrease the dependency on manually administering small amount of doses to infants, but will also ensure that the staff is utilized better.

Our company also handed over 6 Multi Para-monitors to the ICU unit of the Pediatric Ward. This equipment will sense and monitor vital signs and display results, without the need for continuous attendance by the staff. In the ICU, this is a lifesaving device and ensures that with minimum staff, the infant is regularly monitored.

The project was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Mumbai Mahim, members of which were also present at the handover ceremony.

A Blood Separation Plant that ensures blood is separated into 4 components for serving diverse medical needs, was handed over to the Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. Dr Vidya Thakur, Medical Superintendent received the donation on behalf of the Hospital in the presence of Dr Sharad Arulekar, Sr Medical Officer & other Hospital staff.

This equipment will separate a unit of blood into its components like plasma, platelets, etc. thus increasing and optimizing the usage of blood as per the need prevalent. Through this contribution, a first-of-its-kind facility will be created in the locality, placing the hospital in the league of those having advanced amenities.

The project was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Bombay Powai.

The KEM Hospital’s Pediatric Ward treats a rare eye cancer called Retinoblastoma in children below 5 years of age. This cancer, if detected early, is completely curable. The challenge is to salvage the eye and the vision so that children, especially girls from financially-disadvantaged families are not abandoned by being compelled to undergo eye removal. The hospital is the only one in the country to offer treatment in such a unique area of pediatric cancer. For needy families, the fine hair-like catheters used to deliver drugs to the tumour are expensive. Our company delivered the catheters and accessories to the Hospital. 13 children will benefit immediately from the donation.

The project was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Mumbai Mahim.

Reach : Wait-listed cardiac patients

CSR Projects 201415

A 2D Echocardiogram machine was handed over to Dr Avinash Supe, Dean at the KEM Hospital and Dr Prafulla Kerkar, Head of the KEM Cardiology Department for use in the KEM Hospital. Due to the lack of an additional machine for routine heart examinations, the waiting time for patients to get basic heart investigations done would range from 3 to 6 months. This is an inordinately long waiting time for patients with serious heart conditions. Thanks to our support, the additional 2D echocardiogram machine will reduce the waiting time for heart treatment.

The project was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Mumbai Mahim.

Our rewarding CSR journey began with

the mandate in the Companies Act

requiring corporates to spend 2% of

their profits for social projects to serve

the community.

The area of influence selected by our

Company is Healthcare. For this

purpose, the Board of our Company

approved its CSR Policy under a

programme called “Behatar Swasthya

Suvidha Pariyojana”. Under this

programme, our Company seeks to

support the enormous efforts

undertaken by various public hospitals

that deliver healthcare services to the

needy and economically-weaker

sections of society.

The efforts of these hospitals are

extremely laudable. However, they face

resource constraints due to heavy

dependence on budgets allocated by

the Government. Hence it is the solemn

duty of corporate citizens to contribute,

even though such contributions may

appear to be a drop in the ocean.

Under our CSR programme, our

Company undertakes projects to cater

to the modernization needs and

installation of various medical

equipment and facilities.

For implementing the CSR policy, the

Company formed a CSR Committee of

the Board consisting of Mr PD

Samudra, our Managing Director, Mr D

Damania and Mr NR Chitre. Mr. GR

Prabhu acts as Secretary of the

Committee. To facilitate

implementation, a Core Committee was

formed under the leadership of Ms

Sonal Singh, Head - HR & Personnel.

We received a very encouraging

response from our employees to

volunteer for this programme. The CSR

Team sought the support of the Rotary

Clubs of Mumbai Mahim and Powai to

help identify the right projects which

would have maximum impact. The

Rotary Clubs and Chartered

Accountant Mr. Kiran Damle willingly

came forward to assist us in this

important endeavour. After three

months of painstaking efforts, five

projects were identified for upgradation

of various healthcare facilities in four

Municipal and Government hospitals.

The Team, with the support of the

voluntary organizations screened the

projects, met the doctors and the staff

and understood the requirements and

the need for these facilities. The Team

was overwhelmed by the enormous

efforts and work and service provided

by these hospitals to the needy

sections of the society, and took it as a

mission to deliver on our CSR

programme.

Certificate from the Rajawadi Hospital acknowledging the Blood Separation Plant

We are aware that our contributions are but a drop in a mighty ocean. That so much more needs to be and can be done.

The clarion call for corporates and organisations to step up and address the needs of society and our indigent brethren has been heard and heeded.

On our part we are committed to continue what we have started. Our teams have already identified 3 to 4 projects where we can support health and academic needs in the coming period.

We are willing and ready.
