To become a Master Gardener Volunteer:

• Turn in a background check form

• Complete 36 hours of training (i.e. twelve 3-hour sessions covering basics)

• Sign Volunteer Agreement

• Pass a final exam

• Complete at least 24 hours of volunteer service within one year of training

• Projects benefit the public, not individuals

• Should be for UW-Extension- or local MG Association-approved projects– Local agent may have specific requirements– Local associations may

have ongoing projects– Ask before starting an

independent project!

• Minimum of 24 hours – just 2 hours per month!

• Includes travel time, preparation and research time

• Within a year of completing the classroom sessions
