ACUTE PSYCHIATRICSERVICES
At St. Dominic’s Behavioral Health Services, we care for many types of psychiatric conditions. Our services address not only mental health needs but also physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
INITIAL EVALUATION • Psychosocial Assessment completed at our facility by a qualified Intake Counselor or in the community by one of our Outreach Coordinators • Assessment reviewed with Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner • Recommendation for treatment determined
DISCHARGE • St. Dominic’s sta� educates and counsels with the patient on follow up care • Discharge Plans, including outpatient treatment options are discussed • Social Worker assists in outpatient recommendations for ongoing continuum of care • Family is included in the discharge process at the request of the patient • Discharge instructions are given to the patient including medication information

WHEN TO REFER • Severe Depression • Suicidal thoughts/plan • Homicidal thoughts/plan • Psychosis • Delusional thoughts • Paranoid thoughts • Loss of interest or ability to care for self due to mental illness

FAMILY CONNECTION • Communication with family and/or support system is encouraged • Weekly visitation • Education provided on mental health and substance abuse issues • Family conference available based on physician recommendation

ELECTROCONVULSIVETHERAPY (ECT)
• Choice for patients who have not responded well to other treatments • ECT can quickly reverse symptoms of certain mental illnesses • Provided on an acute or maintenance basis • A medical evaluation is completed prior to treatment • Administered at the main hospital to allow for the highest level of care • St. Dominic’s is a leading provider of inpatient and outpatient ECT treatment
