Sir Mix-A-Lot Includes an Alfa in His Latest Video
In This Issue:
If you‟re a regular at Redmond town Center
“Cars and Coffee” on Saturday mornings dur-
ing the summer months, you no doubt have
seen several fabulous Exotics, as well as a
few Alfas. Sir-Mix-a-Lot‟s participation with
his LP-640 (or Ferrari Scagletti) makes it all
that much more fun. On November 16th, Sir
Mix-A-Lot premiered his latest music video, “Carz” at the
Redmond Town Center - and with lines like “Aint no Garage
Queen here”, and “All we‟re saying is that my suspensions
stiff, I never trip” it‟s hard not to like this song.
Sir Mix-A-Lot parlayed a tribute to women with large but-

tocks (“Baby Got Back”, of course) into hip-hop im-
mortality, and became one of rap's (and the Pacific
Northwest‟s) greatest D.I.Y. success stories. De-
spite the driving rain (that is not unusual for us Se-
attlelites) the “Carz” premiere party was
crazy. The rain didn't keep the exotics and various
sport cars from showing up, and Sir-Mix-a-Lot him-
self stood in the rain personally greeting every
guest.
Through the red-carpet and into the mad-house
party, there were plenty of drinks, music and peo-
ple looking to have fun. The party was packed with
people ranging from Ferrari 458 owners to the best
auto detailers in the country. (The detailers are
serious car people, and helped with the making of
the video.) Before the video rolled, Sir-Mix-a-Lot played a slide show showing a generous collection of his past cars. He's owned over 24 exot-
ics from a Slant-nose Gemballa Porsche to his current LP-640. Despite the many Ferrari's and Lambo's he's owned, he didn't downplay his
embarrassment at some of his past cars, including the candy-red Mercedes SEL with gold-accents that he copped after his first royalty-
check. It was a pleasure partying with someone as
“real” as Sir-Mix-a-Lot, and an honor to have
shared his personal car history and “Carz” premiere
with him. If you get a chance check out the video-
now downloadable on iTunes or Sir Mix-A-Lot -

Pay close attention to the background of his video
you can see a really pretty Black Alfa Romeo

Election Results… New Leaders For NWARC
In early November, at our club meeting at 425Motorsports, we used a
few minutes to hold our official club elections. This was the completion
of the process where nominations for the 4 elected positions have been
open for over a month previously. The four elected club officer posi-
tions are Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President. We had a
few nominations come in, and it all came together perfectly.
The Secretary position stays with Gordy Hyde who has done a good job
for the last year, sending out professional communications and keeping excellent detailed
records.
Our Treasurer, Thomas Jermann, was also re-elected which is good since he is in the mid-
dle of an important project. He is working to confirm our club‟s tax exempt status with the
Federal Government as it is with the State Government. He‟s also keeping the clubs bills
paid at the same time.
Joe Faherty was elected as Vice President. Joe
has been a key player in NWARC for years as
well as being a board member for the National
club.
After two great years from Harry Reed, we
elected a new club President, Merril Gordon. He
has been Harry‟s right hand person and has a
ton of Alfa passion.
The other volunteer leadership roles (Activities,
Webmaster, Membership, Editor) mostly re-
mained the same. The only change was for the
Activities person. Shannon Low volunteered for
this role and with his background supporting our
club he should be a great addition to the team.
Each of these people gives a little extra effort and shares their talents to help make the
Northwest Alfa Romeo Club the best it can be for the members, and all those we work with.
Thank you to each club officer and to those who volunteer to support NWARC.

News For Alfisti…
Make sure you pickup your copy of the December 2010 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotics magazine. They focus on Alfa Romeo and its 100th
year! Lots of good Alfa Romeo info and very nicely done!
In the recently released DVD movie, The Girl Who Played With Fire, most
of the cars are Volvos, or Japanese… but much to my surprise, the tough guy
boxer gets into his car to go meet someone, and you notice it is an Alfa Ro-
meo 159 Sportwagen. He drives it very fast… perhaps that is why they de-
cided to use something from outside Sweden.
It's official: the first joint Alfa Romeo Owners Club (AROC) - Alfa Romeo Club
of Canada (ARCC) International Convention will be held June 17-24,
2012. A proposal is being written to host the first Alfa Romeo Association
(ARA) and AROC joint convention in San Francisco in 2013.
Our club members, Chuck Arnold and Kathleen Kelley are in the UK for a few
more months. While there, they are watching for Alfas we don‟t often get to
see. They spotted one of the new 2010 Alfa Romeo Giuliettas on the street
in the village of Avebury and sent this photo!
Happy December Birthdays to Ron Calkins, Kim & Tina Christiansen,
and Keith Martin.
Hoping for good weather…
We are planning our annual January 1st Anti Football Drive. This will take us up north on back roads enjoying the best of Western Washington.
We‟ll end up at noon at Vintage Customs & Ingram Enterprises in Burlington. Both shops are planning to host us with the help of previous expert
host, Fred Schueddekopp from Autostrada. Lunch, friends, and give-a-ways after a nice drive. It‟s a great way to start the new year!
When: January 1st, 9 AM start
Where: Starbucks at 1330 164th SW in Lynnwood 98037 (1 block East of I-5, off Exit 183 just North of Alderwood Mall.)
We‟ll meet at the Starbucks between 8:30 and 9:00 AM so we can head out for our drive. Please start with enough gas to drive over 100 miles. If
the weather is horrible or roads are icy, we‟ll have to cancel. Let‟s plan that it will be nice! Let‟s also plan for a good event and plenty of good peo-
ple and a few Alfa Romeos.

November Meeting Wrap Up
Our November club meeting came with a real treat and a nice surprise.
The treat was the great hosts and products they had for us. The surprise
was that they gave all of us a 20% discount for being there that night!
People were buying helmets, tire pressure gauges, digital cameras, shoes,
and more. They also explained their Project Management program for
building a race, street, or show car. They don‟t charge any money… in-
stead making their money by finding the best solutions and then sharing
the savings with you.
They showed us their full product line from Recaro, Arai, Griot‟s, Oakley,
OMP, Racetech, Momo, Piloti, and there were plenty of folks trying the fit of
racewear and race seats.
They are offering the NWARC members a 10% discount which exceeds the
amount of the sales tax… thus making this a net gain over buying online.
To realize your discount, our club code is ALFA1 for both online and in-
person purchases.
We also held our elections and the details are covered on page 3 of this
issue. Thanks to those who attended and participated in the fun evening.

Just in time for Christmas… Alfa Miniatures Update!
Here‟s how this works… you simply show this info to your friends and family and
maybe they‟ll buy you an Alfa Romeo as a gift. It might work if they order these
right away, they‟ll arrive by the 25th!
ABC Brianza has this 1935 Alfa Romeo converted P3 that won the „35 Mille Miglia
driven by Pintacuda / Della Stufa.
It is a rare 1/43rd scale fully assembled model of the car that our member, Greg
Whitten, has safely in his collection. The detail is not perfect but the fact that it is a
unique car and a very rare model makes it a good addition to a person‟s collection.
Contact Laura at ABC BRianza for info at [email protected] or check their ebay
store: abcbrianza . I‟ll estimate the cost around $300
US.
The next cool idea costs a sliver less at $270 US and it is
also 1/43rd scale… this is also a unique car but a little
newer. It is the 1969 Iguana show car that can be seen
in the Museo Alfa Romeo. The miniature is made by Tec-
nomodel which produces great cars! This can be bought
from Ari at AutoBarn which is in the USA. Contact at
[email protected] for more details.
Another fun bunch of 1/43rd scale Alfa
Romeos is also available from Laura at
ABC Brianza. These have lower detail
quality, which means a lower cost as well.
These are probably around $75 US.

Chrysler / Alfa Romeo News
In a conference call held in early Novem-
ber, Fiat / Chrysler CEO Sergio
Marchionne talked about a number of
issues involving assembly plants and
how it all effects current and future cars.
To our interest, he talked about Alfa Ro-
meo models as well. The challenge, of
course, is how many of these statements
will end up matching reality.
Sergio talked about how they were con-
sidering using the platform from the current and popular Jeep Grand Cherokee
could be also used for an Alfa Romeo offering. I‟ll assume an SUV or at least a
Crossover vehicle. Though many of us might cringe, that may be a very popular
item in these great United States. Remember that the Ferrari 308 saved Ferrari
from extinction… Think also that, each month, Porsche normally sells as many Cay-
ennes (SUV) than all their other models combined. (The only exception being
January when they launched the 4 door Panamera and got a spike of orders.) It
may seem painful but perhaps will generate revenue.
The good news was Sergio did say there was no plans for the Ferrari group using
the same platform so we can assume there won‟t be a prancing horse SUV in the
near future. He also confirmed that the C-Evo platform being used in the new Alfa
Romeo Giulietta, will be used in the US to
replace the currently retired Chrysler Neon
line by mid 2012.
Sergio Marchionne also talked briefly about
the future Alfa Romeo 169 model saying
that the current designs weren‟t ready and
that it might be 6 to 9 months before they
might be. This is the model that was ru-
mored to be possibly built at a plant in Ohio.
We‟ll see how this pans out as the future
seems to just keep rolling at us every day…
for good or for bad.
It‟s not every day we
get to see Alfa
Romeos in the media,
in movies, or in ad-
vertisements. To my
surprise, the folks advertising the new US version of Top
Gear used and Alfa as one of the cars “stacked” in there
print ads featured on the back cover of a couple of US
magazines.
The car was a nice burgundy GTV sandwiched between
two other cars. (The show, so far, is not as cool as the
inclusion of an Alfa in the ad was… just my opinion.)
The next surprise was watching TV and an ad for the
Michelin Stealth Wiper blades. It‟s a cartoon with a
driver driving a car into a fictional “Rainville”, then he
heads further into “Snowville”. The weather is going
from bad to worse but his visibility is fine thanks to good
Stealth wipers. I almost didn‟t notice initially, but
thanks to a DVR, I
backed it up and sure
enough the cartoon
car is what appears to
be a two door Alfa Ro-
meo. The grill is ab-
solutely an Alfa, but
the other details are
not as finite. Watch
for the ad and smile
as you see the Alfa
safely drive through
US television.
