Singleton Campus, this will be the focus for most students. There is also a branch library, the South Wales Miners’ Library located at Hendrefoelan Student Village, that is part of ISS.

Issue Desk
• The Issue Desk is in the Library’s Central Hall.
• Books & other materials can be borrowed, renewed, or returned from this point. Fines can be paid at this desk.
• Undergraduates can borrow up to 15 items at any one time.
• Postgraduates can borrow up to 25 items at any one time.

Self Issue Machines
• The Self Issue machines are in the Library’s Central Hall.• Avoid Issue Desk queues to borrow books by simply inserting your student card and scanning the items you want to borrow. • You will be issued with a receipt.• You may also renew your items at these machines and pay any fines you may have either by card or cash.

Self return machines• The self return unit is
located around the corner from the Library entrance at the top of the stairs.
• Return your items at this machine.
• Follow the on screen step by step instructions. You will be issued with a receipt as proof of return.

Information Desk• The Information Desk is
located in the Library’s central hall.
• The librarians here can help with queries about using the library catalogue and finding and using print and electronic resources on your subject.
• If you have any difficulty in finding what you want, ask them for help.

Careers ReceptionCareers Reception is located in the
Library’s Central Hall.
Don’t know what you want to do? Just drop in for a chat.
Information on hundreds of occupations.
Careers staff can assist with:Individual advice and guidancePlacements and term time workInformation on employers…and much more!

Student IT Support DeskStaff here will help with any
problems concerning -– Open Access PCs– Wireless registration– Your e-mail account– Your network account– Using scanners– Printing– Using software such as
Word, Excel, etc.

Central Hall Bookcase• Careers books, guides
and leaflets.
• New books – recently added to library stock.
• Study skills books.
• College resources guides – prepared for you by your subject librarians. Help yourself to the database guides.

iFind Discover – Library catalogueiFindDiscover can be quickly
accessed via the PCs and NetBooks in the Central Hall and via the ISS home page anywhere.
This is a big, multi-subject library. iFind Discover is the only effective way to find out where the items you need are located.

Finding books on the shelvesUse iFind Discover to find out the call
number for a book.
Each call number represents a subject, e.g QA = Science
Identify the Floor where the call number is found.
Call numbers are found on the spine of a book and are a series of letters and numbers eg QA76.16.L2 2006 for computer science books.

Not just books …•You will also find DVDs, journals, newspapers, PCs, photocopiers, printers, scanners, study areas, databases…

On the left side of the Hall are study places with flat-screen PCs, and on the right side are group study areas.

…and the Study Hall Reference Collection
In the centre of the Study Hall and around some of the perimeter is the Reference Collection. Here you will find encyclopedias, dictionaries and other reference works.

Printing, Photocopying & Scanning
• Black & white and colour printers available – Study Hall, Gallery & PC rooms
• Photocopiers – on Level 2
• Pay for your printing and photocopying by putting money on your student card (using a Revaluer machine – on Levels 2 & 4)
• Scanners also available.

MyUni/ MyHub
Click on Current Students on SU home page to login to MyUni.
Use MyUni to access:Email; Blackboard;Library resources;Intranet; File space;Pebblepad;Wireless Account.

Saving your work
All university students have 100MB of space on the P drive (the Open Access network.) This is the safest, most secure and cheapest place to save your work.
E drive can be used by students who have USB memory sticks.

Swansea Wireless Internet ServiceIf you own a laptop or desktop PC with wireless capability
you can use it anywhere in the Library, Singleton campus halls and dining areas and Hendrefoelan to pick up the University network (email and P drive). Register first.
If you own a laptop without wireless capability – either buy a wireless
card at the Issue Desk or use a docking
port on Level 4 Study Hall. Register first.

Costa @ the Library
• There is a Costa coffee shop at the entrance of the Library.
• Enjoy a cup of coffee with classmates or have a light snack to keep you going!
