4.1. Which documents need to be legalized?
Secondary (School Leaving Certificate) and tertiary (BA or equivalent; minimum 180 ECTS points)
qualifications need to be presented in an officially legalized form for the admission procedure, unless they
were issued in Austria. Copies thereof must legalized, too.
4.2. Which legalization criteria apply for the different states?
The Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture regulates the legalization of diplomas and
certificates for each country. For the first group of countries, legalization in not necessary if you present the
original document issued in:
Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France,Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania,Luxemburg, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Rumania,
Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland
According to the Hague Convention, an apostil issued in the country which issued the original document is
sufficient. Usually you can get the apostil from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country. The
following countries signed the Hague Convention:
Albania, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Aruba, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas,Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Botswana, Brunei, Columbia, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, Georgia,
Grenada, Guyana, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, Korea (Republic), Lesotho, Liberia,Macao, Malawi, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Mozambique, Namibia, New
Zealand, Niue, Panama, Russia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,
Samoa, San Marino, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Suriname, Swaziland, Tonga, Trinidad
and Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Venezuela and Zimbabwe
Documents from countries with which Austria has no agreement have to be fully legalized. A certification
from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country is necessary for the
required document. Applicants with documents issued in China have to present a certificate from the
Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) of the German Embassy in addition to their legalized documents.
Contact the Austrian Embassy/Consulate in the country where your documents were issued showing yourcertificate. For your admission procedure, the certificate issued by an Austrian authority is crucial.
4.3. Further Information
For information about legalization requirements for individual states, please refer to the Austrian Federal
Ministry of Science and Research, NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centre) AUSTRIA
(www.bmwf.gv.at/english/).

6.3. The Vienna Public Transport System
Arrival by Airplane
Vienna International Airport is situated about 15 kilometers east of the city centre. The most economical way
to go from the airport to the city centre is to use line S7 to Wien Mitte (www.schnellbahn-
wien.at/english/index.htm). Another, faster but more expensive option is CAT, a rapid transit train that also
takes you to Wien Mitte. For fees, see www.cityairporttrain.com. From Wien Mitte you can continue your
journey by various public means of transport such as underground, tram or bus.

6.4. Accommodation
The UAS Technikum Wien does not provide any accommodation, but there are various options for you
depending on your individual needs and life style:
Student hostels/dormitories: Non-Austrian students can choose among the whole range of studenthostels in Vienna. Some of those cater to the needs of non-Austrian students more than others: e.g. the
student hostel of the Afro-Asian Institute offers accommodation in 64 single and 4 double rooms
throughout the year and offers prayer rooms for various denominations, see: www.aai-wien.at. The
Austrian Exchange Service (AD) also helps non-Austrian students find suitable and affordable
accommodation with its housing service at
www.housing.oead.ac.at/wien_e/unterkunft.asp?keyword=wien. You can also choose among the other
student hostels in Vienna. Lists of all the hostels with detailed descriptions of furniture, rent and
application formalities is available at www.studentenfoerderung.at, www.studieren.at and www.cycamp.at.

Sharing: A very common alternative to living in a student hostel is sharing a flat/apartment with otherstudents. These are the websites where you can search for a suitable place: www.wohnenboerse.at,www.jobwohnen.at
Renting a flat/apartment: Before signing a rental agreement, it is advisable to gather information aboutyour rights and duties and to have the agreement checked by an expert. This way you sometimes can
achieve a reduction (e.g. in case of a time limit in the contract the legal maximum rent has to be reduced
by 25%). Looking for a flat can be time-consuming and should be well planned. If you commission an
agent with the search you have to pay commission (usually several monthly rents) for this service. Take
into account that deposits might have to be paid as well as payments for previous investments.
The Housing Office of the Austrian Exchange Service provides flats and rooms in halls of residence for
students receiving AD grants, Erasmus students, visiting professors and guests. Should you wish to have a
room at a student residence procured, you have to remit a deposit to
