Introduction

International Business StudyBrazil 2010

What is IBS?

International Business Study (IBS) is a project of STAR, the Study Association of RSM Erasmus University. Every year, IBS offers companies and non-profit organizations tailor-made contract research in emerging markets. IBS provides practical, sustainable, and high quality information because of its desk and field research, which results in well-considered decision-making for companies. This year, IBS will provide its services in Brazil.

Business Opportunities in Brazil

Meet a land of extremes. Since Brazil contains a diversity of climates, resources, and landscapes, the business culture is inspired by business opportunities and challenges occur in a large variety of sectors as well. Those interested in expanding their market should definitely consider Brazil.

The Brazilian government has set several programs to stimulate foreign investment. The government pro-motes the formation of partnerships between foreign and local firms to maximize the marginal productivity of capital.

Brazil is not only the largest economy in Latin America, but it is also the eighth largest economy in the world and Brazil ranks as ninth largest in purchasing power parity (PPP), according to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Brazil has a free market economy with abundant natural resources. The Brazilian economy has been predicted to become one of the five largest in the world in the decades to come, the GDP per capita following and growing.

Agriculture xSustainable energy xHarbor development x Aquaculture xBusiness Software xChemicals xInfrastructure (rail) x Infrastructure (road) x

Therefore, with IBS, the possibilities are unlimited. The following list gives an indication of the services we offer:

If your company currently has no specific need for research in Brazil, IBS offers several ways in which to expand the brand awareness of your organization. There are several possibilities for sponsorship or adver-tising.

Project Profile

The IBS project is carried out by 25 carefully selected senior students at RSM Erasmus University with the support of two professors. The project runs from October 2010 until October 2011 and comprises three different stages:

General ResearchFrom October 2010 on, a preliminary general research study of the country is conducted. The aim of this exploratory research is to gain insight into the emerging market and gather information of practical value to companies interested in Brazil. This will serve as groundwork for further in-depth research tailored to the specific needs of your company and prepare the consultants for the field research which lies ahead.

Contract ResearchDuring this phase, initial contact with companies and non-profit organizations is established in order to offer the tailor-made services of IBS. After non-liable contact, we will present the potential clients with a research proposal. Once the proposal has been certified, we will conduct desk research for several months, followed by three weeks of field research in Brazil in July 2011.

Reporting StageIn September and October 2011, the research will be finalized by the presentation of our recommendations to the companies involved.

Why IBSWhy Academic Research by IBS?

IBS works on a non-profit basis. We provide high quality research at both the practical and the academic level. IBS gives you access to valuable and unique information developed by a new generation of (international) business students with an illuminating perspective on conducting business.

Objective ViewUnbiased research is guaranteed throughout the project, as IBS has no personal interests in any particular business or political areas.

Accessible PriceIn comparison to professional consultants, IBS offers an excellent price-quality ratio. This is mainly due to the non-profit basis on which the project is conducted.

Professional SupportThe quality of the research will be guaranteed by academic feedback and the expertise provid-ed by the staff of RSM Erasmus University. Two professors provide input in terms of knowledge, networking, and experience in the process and help the consultants during desk and field research. The project is also supported by an extensive Board of Recommendation and a number of High Counselors.

Access to InformationIBS has access to a vast number of information resources, including databases, experts and information provided by IBS contacts. In contrast to consultancy firms, IBS will visit Brazil to obtain unique information and local knowledge by conducting field research. Furthermore, IBS has the time, skills and resources to review the large amounts of information available.
