One thing that surprised me about the University of Exeter is that the university cares about your future career right from the beginning of your course. In the first term, we had some lectures about how to use LinkedIn more efficiently for employment purposes. During the year, the university invited potential employers to come and speak to students, and provided different booklets about employment in the international environment. I’m in no doubt that some students will already find a job before they graduate.

My favourite memory at Exeter would be a theatrical performance for a Drama assessment where we performed in front of students and teachers after nine weeks of hard work. I had to repeat my lines, rehearse my movements and ask my groupmates for their opinion over and over again, because I was very worried. In the end, I was able to perform well and feel for the first time not as an international student, but just as a student and an actor like my friends. Ronin Amirkhan Aitu, BA Drama

The South West: live, study and work in the most beautiful part of the UK

Exeter Set in the heart of the beautiful Devon countryside, Exeter is

consistently recognised as one of the best places to live, work, and study in the UK

With a population of around 125,000, Exeter provides a safe, student-friendly environment, with an energetic culture in a beautiful historic setting

While small enough to be explored on foot, Exeter is diverse enough to provide a wide range of activities, from thought-provoking theatre, premier sports events and historic Cathedral tours to quayside kayaking and climbing

Over the last decade, Exeter has outperformed most locations across the UK for job creation. In addition to large employers such as the Meteorological Office and the University of Exeter itself, it is also home to many smaller innovative companies, as well as Exeter Science Park, the South West’s home of science and technology

Exeter is also a great place for shopping, with big names as well as specialist shopping and wonderfully quirky shopping areas, such as medieval, cobbled Gandy Street

And, when you want a break from city life, some of the most stunning countryside and coastlines in Britain are right on your doorstep

Cornwall Cornwall has a rich history of artistic and scientific innovation,

making it a fascinating and stimulating place to attend university

You will find a fantastic student lifestyle in a safe and friendly environment, with plenty of opportunities for sporting and outdoor activities

The Penryn Campus is a few minutes’ walk from Penryn, home to a rapidly expanding collection of independent cafés, shops, galleries and restaurants, as well as Jubilee Wharf, one of the country’s leading zero-carbon buildings

Nearby Falmouth is a vibrant town and the centre of Cornwall’s creative scene, with businesses, studios, shops and galleries, and great live music across the town. Annual events include the Sea Shanty Festival and Falmouth Week, one of the most prominent sailing regattas in the South West, featuring a lively programme of shore-side events

Now I have completed my Masters course at Exeter, I have already returned to Kazakhstan and I continue to work in public service. I had an employment contract before going to study in the UK, to come back home and work on my specialty. What did my studies at Exeter give me? A promotion in my career and even more importantly, the experience and knowledge gained in the UK. It’s priceless!

Dinara Kozhabekova, Master of Public Administration (MPA)

Careers and employability Six months after graduation, 94 per cent of Exeter’s

first degree graduates were in employment or further study*

In 2016 we were runner-up in the ‘best university careers/employability service’ category at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards

Our employability programmes won the AGR Blue Ribbon Award presented by the top graduate recruiting companies in Europe and beyond – the first time this award has ever gone to a university
