What are Computerized Agents?
• The term agent describes an entity that does something on behalf of another.• A computerized agent is a piece of software that
does something for the user.
• Examples: • web search engine• online reservation system

What is an Expert System?
• Expert systems attempt to capture and provide expert knowledge through the use of software• They provide expert quality advice, diagnoses and
recommendations given real world problems
• Examples: • Discovery of tumors in MRI images
• Facial recognition systems

SIGGI-AACS as an Expert System
• The AACS aids archaeological investigators by providing an artificial expert in typological classification to the user.
• It examines digital images and returning a typological assignment.

How Does SIGGI Think?
• SIGGI uses a neural network to assign images of artifacts to types in a given classification.
• The information returned from the neural network is converted into a normalized set of probabilities for assignment to a typology.

• A neural network models a biological brain in a software system.• It is done by creating a series of artificial neurons
arranged in layers.
