Colour Temperature Colourtemperatureisacharacteristicofvisiblelight thatplaysasignificantroleinlightingapplications.The colourtemperatureofalightsourceisthetemperature ofaperfectblack-bodyradiatorthatradiateslightof asimilarappearancetothatofthelightsource.The colourtemperatureismeasuredinunitsofabsolute temperature;Kelvin(K). Colourtemperatureworksparadoxicallytoourcultural associationswithcolour,redashotandblueascold.On theblack-bodycurve,blueoccursathighertemperatures thanred.Agoodexampleisacandlewhichhasa warmredorangeappearancebutinfacthasalow Kelvintemperature,1850K.Thereforehighercolour temperatures(5000Kmore)arecalledcoolcolours (blueishwhite);lowercolourtemperatures(2700 3000K)arecalledwarmcolours(yellowishwhite throughred).
