EDUARD – NEWS IN 2010 JANUARY 11, 2010 Welcome to an abbreviated and tardy newsletter. I hope everyone had a great Christmas, with plenty of plastic and brass under the tree, and we wish you all the best for the new year. As stated last month, we were off as of the 18 th of last month, and have been gearing up again to get back at it on the 12 th of January. Without a doubt, the item of the month and early 2010 is the release of the Focke Wulf Fw 190D-9, the first of the Doras in our line. We have high hopes for the kit, and have put much thought and design consideration into its development. This will be evident early on after opening the box. The rear of the engine details are there for those who exercise the option of displaying the fuselage guns exposed, and all relevant details are visible through the wheel well roof openings. The gun covers include all known styles, both a blown and straight canopy, and includes six interesting marking options. We are rather pleased with this kit, and trust that the Luftwaffe boys among you will be, too. The other kit releases are the Albatros D.III in 1/48 th scale in a ProfiPACK boxing, and the Weekend Pfalz D.III in the same scale.

EDUARD – NEWS IN 2010 JANUARY 11, 2010 Welcome to an abbreviated and tardy newsletter. I hope everyone had a great Christmas, with plenty of plastic and brass under the tree, and we wish you all the best for the new year. As stated last month, we were off as of the 18th of last month, and have been gearing up again to get back at it on the 12th of January.

The other kit releases are the Albatros D.III in 1/48th scale in a ProfiPACK boxing, and the Weekend Pfalz D.III in the same scale.

KITS FOR 2010

Again, with the D-9 being released, you should know that there will be more down the road. Another Dora will follow in April, which will be the D-11/D-13. I expect it will be no less an interesting kit, because there are some newly discovered D-11s now which give us a chance to make this kit very interesting with more marking options than usual. The D-9 and D-11 will also meet each other in one box as 2010 turns over into 2011, when we will release a Limited Edition dedicated to the famous Papagei Staffel of JV 44. It may seem like this subject has been beaten into the ground, but we feel that we can put an interesting spin on it, and it promises to be one of, if not THE, most interesting Limited Edition we have offered.

The often question is if we will also release Ta 152 in any version. The answer is unfortunately NO. People tell me, that we can easily do Ta 152, because it is very similar aircraft and the changes needed in design are marginal, but upon our mind the reality is different and to do Ta 152 means to do a fairly new design, new tooling, new everything. So we decided to demit on Ta 152 project, and the only thing which we will offer you in future is late Dora with Ta 152 type tail. I hope that before we will use this fuselage in a kit, there will be found some more interesting markings for this amazing subtype. At this moment we have two I guess, which makes these parts just limited usable.

Early spring will be a happy time for WW I fans. First, we will be back with our Fokker D.VII in the form of two releases, and we will not miss a step with WW I aircraft with the release of the Albatros OEFAG series 253 immediately after. With respect to the Fokker, the first one is being redied for February, and is the re-edition of the Fokker D.VII (OAW). The kit has a new box with old contents, keeping the structure of the kit in tact including the marking schemes. I understand that this could be deemed uninspired, but the next version will be different; bank on it! It is the Austro-Hungarian Fokker D.VII (MÁG). We converted our original design a lot, with a modified nose and cockpit area and, of course, with new engine and weapons. The MÁG will be released in LIMITED EDITION only, with exceptionally detailed marking and painting instructions, which will allow the Fokker D.VII MÁG to be built in Hungarian, Czechoslovakian and Rumanian colors. The MÁG is expected in May, and with another WW I newcomer that will follow immediately in June.

It is the Albatros D.III OEFAG series 253, with the series 153 to come later in August. This kit shares the engine frame with the Fokker D.VII (MÁG). You might expect that the new OEFAG is just another Eduard Albatros, but it is much more. This is a completely new design, with no commonality with the old Albatros. Austro-Hungarian aircraft were very colorful, and we will well employ this fact in our kits, not only for these two Profipacks, but for later Limited Edition releases as well.

I suspect that you know that these two are relatively simple kits. Not concerning the details, I promise they will be great, but both these WW I subjects are definitively smaller. So you might wonder what it is that we do around here. Aren't we working on more than just the two biplanes and the Dora? Of course, we are! We are working on a pretty massive project that will have its debut a bit later - the MiG-21. With this project, we designed the third generation of this famous fighter, which means that we are working to release the MiG-21MF, BIS, SMT and their derivatives, like the 'M'. The first of our MiGs, the MiG -21MF, will be released in September, and this first of Eduard´s MiGs will be unusually released as a Limited Edition kit, dedicated to the MiG-21MFs in Czech and Slovak service. Standard ProfiPACK MiGs will then follow during the fall and winter.

MiG-21 3d render of mold

Our MiG-21 family will be composed of kits of a very high standard with great details and fine surface rendition in the Eduard style, but will not be unnecessary complicated builds. The engineering philosophy follows closely along the lines of the new Dora, with well rendered visible details without any compartments that don't need to be opened. We understand the critics who claimed that our Fw 190A series or even the Bf 110, are too complicated, so we carefully judged each area of the new kits and we tried to find a good compromise between the buildability and detail complexity. I hope these new kits will be found well balanced! That's what we are shooting for.

There is an interesting aspect surrounding our MiGs, which is the inclusion of an illumination set. The kit is ready for installation of the illumination set, which allows the switching on the position lights, landing lights and the instrument panel. The set will be available later this year and we expect also to use it for a future Limited Edition MiG-21 kit. Pretty cool development to offer.

Page 5: INFO JANUARY 2010 - Eduard

The MiG-21 is really quite a job for us, and will keep our engineering office busy through to the late summer, but then we will be free for other, in comparison with the MiGs, smaller projects. So, besides the MiG, we have another quarter scale job in the works, namely the Bf 109E, and two kits in 1/72nd, which are the Hellcat and Avia B-534. All of them are expected late this year.

And what about the Spitfire? And the Bf 109F? And the 1/72nd scale MiG-15? Sorry, not until next year! I understand it may be too slow for some of you guys, but our slow approach brings at least one bonus - we have enough subjects to talk about! But we invested in our design office some good coin last year, we reorganized our team, and I trust it will give us some more power during this year. Give us some time to show you that we can be faster!

All these kits described above are brand new kits, and fresh releases. Besides them, we will have plenty of LIMITED EDITION and WEEKEND kits, as usual. In the LIMITED EDITION line, besides the aforementioned Fokker and Dora, we will be offering the Airacobra Over New Guinea, based, of course, on our own P-39 kits. We will also acquire the kits from other manufacturers, as in past years. Now it will be four 1/48th scale kits by KP: the Su-7, Su-25K, Su-22M-3 and Su-22M-4. Besides them, we will also release the Liberator GR.Mk.V and GR.Mk.VI in 1/72nd scale, which will be ex-Minicraft molds with Eduard conversion parts.

BRASSIN

This is a brand new line and I can say that this is really revolutionary among our lines. We have avoided resin accessories for a long time, and we have our reasons. Frankly speaking, the change in our mind came with the progress of the other Eduard brands, in our plastic kits and photoetch production lines. The progress in 3D design was so fast in the past years, and it changed our engineering methods and capabilities so quickly, that we decided to pass some people with skills in casting to a new division, join them with skilled designers, and join the resin accessories industry. Our idea is that we have a lot that we can offer, and we will do it very actively now. Employing our design and casting experience, we have developed new techniques for achieving unprecedented levels of detail and fit. We spent some three quarters of 2009 in developing our technology and organizing the production line, and we are ready to introduce our products. So, the first ones are here, and we trust that this will develop into a huge Eduard line through this year.

The first offerings of the Brassin Line are being offered in the form of wheel and seat sets for the Tamiya F-16 (January 2010).

PHOTOETCH FOR JANUARY AND FOR 2010

We aren't planning any real changes or innovations in this line. However, our Brassin sets will have some impact on this line, as both lines will end up complementing each other in the future. Generally, our biggest plan for this line for this year is the increasing of our painting capacity and the improvement of the painting technology.

Photoetched brass for this month centres around four sets for Trumpeter's 1/32nd scale Swordfish, and these cover hinges and surface panels, the interior and the exterior. Staying in 32nd, we are coming with items for the F-86F-30 (Kinetic), and there are also first two seatbelts sets for Trumpeter’s F-8E Crusader. 1/32nd Zoom line grows this month with four new sets for Fw 190A-5 and Ju-87G (both from Hasegawa), F-4D Phantom II (Tamiya) and Swordfish (Trumpeter).

In 1/48th, we are offering the set of B-57B/G flaps, and F-16C Barak Interior Zoom sets for the Kinetic kits. Turning our attention to 1/72nd, the Canberra PR.9 flaps are out this month, and we are releasing another set for F-22 interior, in this case for Hobby Boss kit.

EDUARD WEB SITE

Except all of the news and changes in our production lines, we are working on a significant upgrade of our web site. We feel it is time for a change, and we think that our web site is still surely not bad but it is getting obsolete. You know what I mean, and we don’t need to talk about the speed of the site or about searching through the files. We simply recognize the need for a new, fast and powerful tool to serve you!

Keep on modeling!
