Ryōta Kise (黄瀬 涼太 Kise Ryōta) was one of the Generation of Miracles who now plays at Kaijō High.

He is known for his copying abilities, this means that he can copy every technique he has seen, with more

power than the original.

Appearance Edit

Kise in uniform

Kise also works as a model, so, naturally he has a pretty face. He has blonde, medium long hair. He has

a piercing in his left ear. Out of games, he is often seen in his school uniform, including white shirt, black

tie and a gray vest and formal pants. In games, he wears the dark blue Kaijō jersey with the number 7.

Personality Edit

Kise has a very carefree, outgoing, and a flamboyant personality. He tries to be friends with everybody,

including those who seem gloomy and distant (for example Midorima). Kise exclusively adds -cchi to his

GoM fellows' names, such as Kurokocchi  (Kuroko), Midorimacchi (Midorima) or Aominecchi  (Aomine), and

has the habit of ending his sentence with the suffix -ssu. As carefree as he is off-court, he can be very

determined and serious while playing. While playing against Aomine, he says that he just doesn't care

about Kaijō winning, that he just wants to defeat Aomine himself. He says that he's not mature enough to

play basketball logically, that his instincts are too strong.[1] He is shown to be surprisingly perceptive,

though it may be because his specialty is watching and copying people. It was revealed in the -Replace-

novel that he could immediately tell that Momoi liked Kuroko, though she herself was unsure of her own

feelings.

Because Kuroko was Kise's personal instructor in Junior High school when he first started playing

basketball, and because Kuroko is uniquely strong, Kise deeply respects Kuroko to the point of

obsession. He always tries to point out how amazing Kuroko is and thought that they were supposed to

be the best of friends[2] (and he was comically upset when Kuroko said the opposite). He even claimed to

have cried every night after Kuroko rejected his offer to play for Kaijō; he once referred to this event as

"Kurokocchi dumped me". A slight running gag with Kise is that whenever Kasamatsu tries to talk about

the Generation of Miracles, Kise always brings up Kuroko in to the conversation and ends up getting hit.

History Edit

Kise watches Aomine

In his second year in Teikō Junior High School, Kise used his copying ability in P.E., only to get an A in

soccer while at the same time competing withTanaka. Even though he was popular, good-looking and

talented, he was very bored. This is because in every sport he tried, he had no competition. He wasstrolling around when a basketball hit his head. The ball belonged toAomine, who apologized and ran

back to training. Kise followed him and saw him play. He was perplexed and thought by himself that he

found his competition.[3] He applied for the basketball club and got approved and in no time, belonged to

the regulars.

Finally in the first string, Kise was given Kuroko as a personal instructor. Kise though that it was really

weird for an amazing player like him to have a small and weak instructor like Kuroko. He was even more

confused when he heard that Kuroko belonged to the Generation of Miracles. He asked Aomine about it

and he told him that Kuroko's power is a different case and that he would understand in a match.[4] Kise

and Kuroko were then assigned to participate in a match of Teikō's second string.

Kuroko and Kise

As they were walking toward to gym, Kise asked Kuroko to bet on his uniform, whoever got more points

would win. Kuroko declined and said that what you do for the team is more important than individualpoints. In the match, Teikō was losing and Kise was put in the game. Expecting it to be easy, Kise was

immediatly guarded by two men and couldn't move as he wanted. Kuroko also enters the field and asks

for Kise to help him, as he is the light that makes Kuroko's shadow stronger.[5] Kuroko uses his

misdirection, gets the ball and makes his invisible pass to Kise, who scores. Kise is amazed by Kuroko's

ability and eventually wins the game. After the match, he approaches Kuroko and asks him if he likes

sarificing himself for other people to score. Kuroko replies that he doesn't, but that it's all for winning.

Story Edit

Seirin vs Kaijō Edit

Kise makes his debut

Kise is first seen when going to greet Kuroko in Seirin High School. Seirin's training was underway and

as Kagami was going one-on-one and passed his opponent, Kise watched him.[6] Riko informs the team

that they will play against Kaijō High, Kise's team, without knowing Kise was in the building. Riko notices

a crowd of highschool girls and it is revealed that they are gathering around Kise. Riko and the othersrecognize Kise immediatly. They ask him why he is here and he answers that he was curious when he

heard that his opponent was going to be Seirin, and he knew that was where Kuroko plays, and he

decided to take a look. A Seirin member read his article in a magazine he was holding and reads out loud

that Kise was only basketballing since his second Junior High school year. Kise tells them the article is

exaggerating and that he is just the weakest of the Generation of Miracles. But suddenly, Kagami throws

Page 5: info about kuroko's basketball

a basketball in his direction. Kise manages to catch it and Kagami challenges him to a one-on-one. Kise

happily accepts and takes off his jacket and tie.

Kise copies Kagami's move

Kuroko comments that this will be bad, while Kise takes it immediatly to the hoop. To everyone's surprise,

he passes Kagami with the same move Kagami was seen doing just a while ago.[7] Kagami keeps his

head cool and jumps for the block, but Kise is stronger than him and dunks it. As Kagami is falling, he

thinks by himself that Kise's cut was better, faster and stronger than his. A couple of Seirin members ask

Kuroko about Kise and he tells hims that he hardly recognizes him. He is amazed that he has improved to

that extent. Kise walks towards Kuroko and tells him to come to his school. Kise explains that he respects

Kuroko much and says that Kuroko is wasting his talent away, thus the reason why he's offering him to

play together again. Kuroko refuses his offer very formally (that flusters Kise) and Kuroko tells him he

can't leave because he made a promise with Kagami to defeat the Generation of Miracles. Kise, under

the impression that Kuroko was still all about winning, thinks that Kuroko is joking. Kuroko tells him that

he is serious.[8] Kise leaves.

Kise talks with Kuroko and Kagami

He meets Seirin again on the day of the match. He says to Kuroko that he's really dissapointed that he

rejected his offer. He goofes around and Kuroko tells him to refrain from saying things like that. Kise turns

to Kagami and says that he's interested in him. He tells him that if he wants a fight, he'll get one. He

accompagnies the team into the gym and puts his jersey on, but his coach tells him he won't play. Kise

asks why and his coach says that when he'll play, it won't even be a match. Kise convinces his coach to

sit on the bench and goes to Kuroko and Kagami to tell them that. He tells them that if they won't even get

him to play, then they don't have the right to say they'll take down the Generation of Miracles.[9] Kuroko

warns him that he won't afford holding back.

Kise dunks against Seirin

The match begins and Kuroko and Kagami quickly surprise everyone by destroying the backboard.

Kaijō's coach decides to take them seriously and prepares the whole court and Kise is called over by him.

The match restarts and Kise can finally play. Riko uses her Scan ability on him and is amazed by his

statistics, comparing him to a monster. Because Kise entered the court, a bunch of fangirls startscreaming. Kise waves at them, but is quickly scolded by his captain, Yukio Kasamatsu. Kasamatsu tells

him to returnSeirin's favor. The match begins and Kise quickly takes up to the goal.Hyūga is guarding him

and tries to block Kise's dunk, but Kise copies Kagami's previous dunk and overpowers

Hyūga.[10] Kasamatsu scolds him again, saying that he should have broken the backboard like Kagami,

but Kagami realizes that Kise's dunk was way more powerful than his. Kise says to Kagami that he never

forgets to retrun a favor. Heated up, Kagami andKuroko decide to kick up the pace of the match and the

match becomes a horse race.

Kise explains Kuroko's Misdirection

Meanwhile, Kagami faces off against Kise and does a fade-way. Kise manages to block the ball partially.

Now Kise is on the offense and does the same fade-away Kagami did a moment ago, but with more

speed an power. Kagami can't block it and Kise scores. Because the pace is still too damn

high, Seirin calls for a time-out. At Kaijō's side, their coach yells at them for letting Seirin score too

much. Kasamatsu asks Kise about Kuroko's misdirection and Kise explains that Kuroko has a weak point.

He reveals that Kuroko can't use his ability for the whole match. He explains Kuroko's misdirection to

Kasamatsu and tells him that the longer he uses it, the less effective it becomes.[11] The time-out is over and the match restarts with Kagami marking Kise and the rest of Seirin's team

covering a zone-defense. After Kasamatsu scores a three-pointer, Kuroko's misdirection weakens and

Kagami gets bested by Kise. After yet another block by Kise, he tells Kagami to just give up and that the

difference in strength is clear. Kagami is unphased, he even starts laughing and is glad that Kise puts up

a challenge. He also says that he finally found Kise's weak point, namely Kuroko.[12]

Kise is passedKise acknowledges that Kuroko's style of playing is the only one he can't copy, but he doesn't see what

difference it makes. After a time-out, the second quarter begins. Seirin is on the ball and Kagami goes up

against Kise. He drives as usual, but suddenly leaves the ball behind. Kuroko appears and bounces the

ball back to Kagami, passing Kise. Kise is amazed by Kagami and Kuroko's cooperation play. After

another attack, he tells Kuroko that even that kind of play still can't beat him. Kise gets the ball and is

suddenly guarded by Kuroko.[13]

Kise and Kuroko exchange words that they never had imagined to face each other like this, but Kise

quickly dribbles past Kuroko. He is instantly guarded by Kagami and much to Kise's surprise, Kuroko

steals Kise's ball from the back. In the next attack, Kise tries to score by shooting instead of cutting to the

basket, but is blocked by Kagami. Seirin tries to go for a counter and when Kise starts to run back, he hits

Kuroko by accident. Kuroko is hurt on his forehead and Kise feels bad for injuring Kuroko.[14]

Kagami out jumps Kise

When Kuroko re-enters the game and Seirin ties the score, Kise decides to get real. He passes Kuroko

again, but evades his back-tip. He drives to the basket and dunks. The match goes back to a struggle for

points, with mostly Kise scoring for Kaijō. With three seconds left and the score tied, Kagami and Kuroko

make a turnover. Kise awaits them at the goal and Kagami passes to Kuroko. Kise reasons Kuroko can't

possibly shoot and Kuroko does indeed pass to Kagami in the air for an alley-oop. Kise anticipates this

and jumps between Kagami and the basket but finds himself dropping first. Kise is amazed by Kagami's

jumping power and Kagami dunks, making the score 100 to 98 and so taking the win. Kise is

devastated.[15]

Interhigh preliminaries Edit

After losing the match with Seirin, Kise would attend Seirin's notable matches, often appearing with Yukio

Kasamatsu, the Kaijō basketball team captain, though there were times where Midorima or Momoi would

watch with him.

His team also won the Kanagawa Interhigh preliminaries and they managed to advance to the

actual Interhigh.

Interhigh Edit

Kaijō vs Tōō

At the end of its first summer training camp, the Seirin and Shūtokubasketball teams went to watch

the 2nd game of the quarter-finals of the Interhigh: Kaijō versus Tōō. In the changing room, Kasamatsu

tells Kise he wants to win against Tōō in order to be recognized as a true captain instead of being

shadowed by his past mistake against Tōō last year, while Kise admits he only wanted to win

because Aomine  – the player who got him into basketball – is in the team. Seeing Kasamatsu's emotion

into his speech, however, seems to bring Kise to voice his decision to "win even if it kills me."[16]

In the beginning of the game, it seems that Kise's copy-cat skills aren't enough to play evenly with

Aomine, but then he pushes himself to overcome what's stopping him from advancing – his admiration ofthe "Generation of MiraclesAce"[17]  – and learns to copy Aomine's moves, shocking everyone including

the members of the Generation of Miracles watching.

Pre-Winter Cup Edit

In preperation for the Winter Cup, Kise is training hard with Kaijō High. He is seen dunking the ball,

angeringHayakawa because he won't be able to rebound.[18]

Winter Cup Edit

The meeting of the Generation of Miracles

Kise appears during the Winter Cup when Akashi called the Generation of Miracles for a meetup. He is

with his cellphone asking why Midorima brought a pair of scissors. He replies that it's obviously his lucky

item. Kise says that he should put them away, that it's dangerous. Kuroko arrives and greets them. When

Kise gets another text, Aomine asks if it's from Akashi, since he hasn't arrived yet. Kise says it's an

encouraging text from his fans, causing Aomine to become irritated.[19] He is later greeted by Akashi, who

has finally arrived. AfterKagami's arrival, Akashi leaves, saying that he has seen that everyone (including

Kise) hasn't forgotten their oath the Generation made. He says that they will meet in battle the next time

they see each other.

Round 1 Edit

The first seen match of the Winter Cup is Kaijō High between an unknown team. It is seen that Kaijō

dominated the match, much with the help of Kise. Kise also makes the first dunk in this year's Winter

Cup.[20]

During Seirin's match against Tōō, he is seen sitting in the audience and being amazed by Kuroko's new

Ignite Pass Kai.

Quarter-finals Edit

Kise and the rest of the Kaijō team go up against Fukuda Sōgō High, where the former member of Teikō

that Kise replaced, Shōgo Haizaki, plays.

Kise runs into difficulty as the match progresses, as Haizaki continues to wear down Kise and his

teammates by copying and stealing their skills one at a time. With Kaijō down in the 4th quarter and in a

desperate situation, Kise reveals his Perfect Copy, which allows him to copy the skills of each of the

Generation of Miracles skill for up to five minutes. Now able to copy the skills of all of the Generation of

Miracles (except Kuroko), he leads Kaijō to a victory.

Semi-finals Edit

Kise attends the semi-finals between Rakuzan High and Shūtoku High and sees Akashi emerge

victorious.

It is then time for his own match, against Seirin High. Both teams are warming up quietly, though they are

burning with fighting spirit. Kasamatsu breaks the uneasiness and tells Kise to give them a greeting. Kise

happily agrees and dunks a lane-up, copying Kagami. He points to Seirin and calls it a declaration of

war.[21] Kagami and Kurokoreturn the favor by doing a lane-up-alley-oop. The match then commences.

Kise is ready for the match

Both teams bow and Kise approaches Kagami. He tells him his previous loss is still on his mind and that

he realizes he will do anything for basketball and for winning. Kagami bluntly calls him soft and says to

get started already, grinning. Kise turns to Kuroko and asks if he feels the same way. Kuroko explains

that he actually thought of Kise as his rival, since they were once "trainer-trainee", but that Kise has

surpassed him already. This has made Kise even more excited about playing. After the tip-

off, Kuroko uses his two trump cards and scores immediately, with the thought of getting ahead before

Kise uses his Perfect Copy. However, Kise sees it differently and takes it back right away, activating his

Perfect Copy and scoringMidorima's signature shot. He says to Kagami that there is no way he has gone

soft.[22]

Kise uses Emperor Eye to ankle break Kagami

During Seirin's next attack, Kise blocks Hyūga's shot with a copy ofMurasakibara's block. A quick shift of

defense to offense leads the ball back to Kise, who pulls up for a half court shot. He

encounters Kiyoshi as a block, but fakes it and uses Aomine's agility and change of pace to drive beside

him. He then moves on to the free-throw line, where Kagami is waiting. Kagami, yet unable to enter the

Zone, heightens his five senses by using his recently acquired animal instinct. Kise does not care and

uses Akashi's Emperor Eye to ankle break Kagami. As he falls to the ground, Kise makes the shot. Seirin

is still fired up and the ball ends up with Kuroko, who pulls up for his Phantom Shot. Hyūga speculatesthat Kise cannot stop it, since Murasakibara couldn't as well. He was proven wrong when Kise combines

Murasakibara's block and Akashi's Emperor Eye, reading the direction of the shot and slamming it away.

Kise seems unstoppable, but Kuroko smiles at his strength and can't help but laugh.[23]

Kise continues using the Generation of Miracles' techniques, ankle breaking Kuroko and

overpowering Kiyoshi and Kagami with Thor's Hammer, a skill from Murasakibara. Three minutes in the

game and Kaijō is 13 points ahead. Kise comments that Perfect Copy is tiring and deactivates it, saving

his last two minutes for later on in the match. He states that he has completed his mission and that the

flow of the game is completely with his team. One of the next attack, Kagami goes up against Kise, drives

and switches to a fade-away shot. Kise is surprised but is confident that it will miss, which it does,

knowing that Seirin is rushing too much.[24] Later, when Furihata enters the field, Kise thinks that he

might be a secret weapon, but discards that idea right away.

The showdown

The focus of the match shifts to a battle of the point guards, Kasamatsu enIzuki. When Kasamatsu fails to

attack, he decides to pass it on to Kise. Kise faces Kagami and Kise performs Kagami's copied drive and

fade-away. However, Kise is still hurting his leg and lacks the height to avoid Kagami's block. In the

following fast-break, Kagami reaches the basket, but suddenly gets blocked by a returned Kise. Both aces

ask their respective PGs to leave it to them. Kagami is in offense and this showdown will decide the flow

of the match. Kagami starts his dribble with incredible speed and drives past Kise, who is unable to react.

Kagami dunks it and Kise curses...[25]

Kise is benched

Kise reflects on first meeting Kagami and how the feeling of the Generation of Miracles grew in Kagami

until it's absolutely present now. He calls him a part of the GoM who went his own way, who has this so-

called "instinct". His determination to defeat Kagami becomes stronger. The ball goes to Kise in the next

offense, having just shook off his mark with a screen. Kise goes for a jump shot, but fails to reach a

decent height because of his injured leg. Kagami blocks the shot and goes up against Kise again in

Seirin's next offense. Kagami's speed outdoes Kise's and he passes him. A gap seems to open between

both aces, but Kise does not give up. Kaijō's coach, Takeuchi, suddenly calls for Kise's substitution. Kise

protests, but Kasamatsu sets him straight by telling him that he already lost, that an injured leg is part of

the game. Kise is subbed to Nakamura and sits on the bench frustrated.[26]

The match reaches half time and the score is tied. Both teams go to their respective locker rooms and

once there, Kise pleads to his coach to let him play again. He angrily says that he's the only one who can

stop Kagami, butTakeuchi is unfazed and refuses to put him back in before the last two minutes. Kise is

worried that by then it might be already too late, but he is again set straight by Kasamatsu. Kasamatsu

scolds him, which makes Kise remember the time when he first entered the Kaijō High School basketball

team and how Kasamatsu lectured him about senpais and his position in the team. Still on the bench,

Kise comes to the conclusion that he trusts his team.[27]

Kise and Kuroko are subbed back inAs the game progresses, Seirin

steadily increases their lead over Kaijō, leading by 15 with four minutes left. Kise is extremely frustratedand thinks back to the time when he took the blame for losing in the Interhigh tournament, but Kasamatsutold him to keep looking forward, that taking the loss is the captain's job. Kise refuses to sit on the benchany longer and demands to be put in until the end of the game, stating he couldn't be called the team'sace if he had to sit on the bench any longer. He states that he really loves his team and Takeuchi finallygives in. Kise meets Kuroko, who's also about to re-enter the game...[28]

Kise is finally put into the match. He begins to dominate the game once again with his Perfect Copy, he is

even able to copy two of Kuroko's signature skills, Ignite Pass Kai and the Phantom Shot, something that

was thought impossible to do until then. He eventually enables Kaijō to grab a one point lead with unde r a

minute left. Seirin took the lead right back with a quick Run & Gun. Then with the clock wind down, due to

Page 12: info about kuroko's basketball

pressue from Kuroko, who learned that Kise does not use the same copy twice in a row, and the rest of

Seirin he was unable to shoot. But, he was able to find an open Kasamatsu for a shot and a late lead.

This was all part of Seirin's plan though, they had planned to counter if Kaijō had scored, which explained

the quick Run & Gun earlier. With seconds left Kiyoshi does a full court throw to Kagami, who looked to

have a clear path for a shot, since Kise was forced underneath the basket at the other end. However,

Kise was able to catch up with his speed regardless, also helped by the fact that Kiyoshi was pressured

on the throw. Kagami initially was going to attempt a Meteor Jam, as he did against Yosen. Kise

pressured the shot attempt. Kagami, who had not perfected its use outside of the Zone, looked like he

would miss the shot. But, with only a few seconds left, Kuroko called out to Kagami who was just about to

release the ball from his hand. Kise wondered how Kuroko could get the ball, since it was already coming

out of Kagami's hand towards the basket. But, Kagami did something unexpected by everyone. He

passed the basketball off the backboard, which in turn bounced towards Kuroko, who hit a Phantom Shot

for the game winning buzzer beater. Kise could nothing about it.

Kise congratulated Seirin after the game, saying how surprised he was to lose to them a 2nd time. Kise

then proceeded to cry emotionally in front of his teammates, talking about how much he wanted to win.[29]

Ability8/10

Kise has excellent physique, is very agile and strong. His ability copy-cat requires one thing: that he issomewhat on par with his target's physical abilities. This is why in spite of his career in basketball is short

compared to his former teammates he is able to gather sizeable pool of technique and skill. The fact that

he was able to copy Aomine's movements (although not with that much power), shows that he is

approximately equally strong and skillful.

Copy-cat Edit

Kise copies Kagami's move

The actual reason why he can play basketball, is because he has the ability to copy someone's

movements in no time due to his visual comprehension skill. He only has to see a technique one time to

completely copy it and make it his own. His ability doesn't stop there: he copies the technique, but plays it

with more power and speed than the original.[30] This mean that when his opponent makes a move, he

can transcend them easily. His ability of course knows some barries, he had to see Aomine's movements

multiple times and prepare himself mentaly before he could copy them. This skill doesn't l imit itself to

basketball, he initially used it on many sports, like soccer, before basketball.[31]

  Kise's copies Kasamatsu's turnaround

2 of 5 Add photo

So far, he has been able to copy Kagami's fast drives and turns, his strong dunks and fade-aways. In the

match againstTōō, he is seen copying Sakurai's quick release shot and a number of Aomine's drive

moves, like leaving the ball behind and grabbing it again while passing the opponent.[32] Even more, he

copied Aomine's impossible shots as well, like the shot parallel with the board and multiple formless

shots. He also managed to copy Aomine's change of pace, but still in his own way. Not only did he copy

moves of his enemies, he also used a quick turnaround used by Kasamatsu.[33]

His copy-cat ability is also similar to that of Haizaki's, who Kise replaced. Haizaki could copy moves, like

Kise, but when he executes those moves, he does it in his own, slightly alter rhythm, somehow making it

so the person who used it first can't use it anymore.

of copying the Generation of Miracles. Kise has seen using Midorima's full court shot by taking more time

than usual to make the shot, similarly to how Midorima makes his. He can copy Aomine's change of pace

by lowering his minial speed. By using his jumping power and foresight, Kise can copy Murasakibara's

defense.[34] Because this naturally causes great stress to the body, Kise can only hold on this Perfect

Copy for five minutes.

He can even copy Akashi's Emperor Eye, though it has been noted that it is still not 100% perfect like

Akashi's, though good enough to predict the future with astonishing accuracy. It is also shown that Kise

can combine techniques that he has copied. He blocked Kuroko's Phantom Shot by using Akashi'sEmperor Eye and Murasakibara's blocks.[35]He used Akashi's Emperor Eye again in combination with

Aomine's full speed drive for an ultimate ankle breaker.[36]He can also copy Kuroko's Ignite Pass Kai and

Phantom Shot, as shown in the last quarter of the Seirin vs Kaijō match after a long wait on the bench.[37]

Relationships Edit

Tetsuya Kuroko Edit

Kise has a deep respect for Kuroko. Having Kuroko as an instructor in middle school, Kise respects

Kuroko greatly for his skill and team work. It almost comes off as an obsession, since he always brings up

Kuroko in conversations of the Generation of Miracles, and goes as far as to claim Kuroko "dumped him"when Kuroko refused to play with him in Kaijō. Apparently, though, their friendship only exists in Kise's

mind, because when Kise claimed they were "best of friends", Kuroko denied their relationship and said

he treated Kise the same as everyone else.

Nevertheless, Kuroko earned Kise's respect, and calls him "Kurokocchi", adding -cchi to the end, which

means he acknowledges Kuroko's skill.

Taiga Kagami Edit

Kise thinks of Kagami of a rival of sorts. When Kagami defeated Kise and his team during the practice

match, it was Kise's first taste of loss. It motivated him even more to get stronger. Kise also calls Kagami

"Kagamicchi", something Kagami hates, but shows how much Kise respects him.

Shintarō Midorima Edit

Kise, being friendly and goofy, tries hard to become friends with Midorima. Midorima, however, rejects

Kise in every way possible because of his pride. They are not on very good terms, but they are close

enough to interact and talk about basketball. In one chapter of the manga, Kise texts Midorima "Good

luck" before his match in the Winter Cup. Midorima replies with "Die". Kise, upset at this, tearfully and

comically asks his teammates if it was normal to reply with "die" after saying "Good luck".[38]

He affectionally calls Midorima "Midorimacchi".

Daiki Aomine Edit

Aomine was the first person to convince Kise to play basketball. Kise had watched Aomine practice the

day he got hit by a basketball, and was amazed at Aomine's freestyle basketball playing. Since he was

bored with every other sport, Kise found that he couldn't copy Aomine's style during middle school.

Because he finally found a challenge, Kise joined the basketball team.

Flashbacks show that Aomine and Kise had a close friendship. The two would compete with each other in

basketball (with Aomine defeating him every time), and Kise would always get frustrated since he couldn't

beat him. He calls Aomine "Aominecchi", a sign that he respects him.

Yukio Kasamatsu Edit

Kise's senpai in Kaijō and the captain of Kaijō's team. He is shown often to be comically hitting Kise

because of his annoyance towards the younger man. Their interaction shows that Kise is quite close with

him- once appearing in a restaurant with him, resulting them to meet Midorima, Takao, Kagami, Kuroko

and the Seirin team. He's shown to be a responsible captain and had shown a degree of caring towards

Kise.

Atsushi Murasakibara Edit

Atsushi Murasakibara was Kise's Junior High School classmate, as mentioned in the official

novel Replace.

Seijūrō Akashi Edit

Quotes Edit

basketball 'cause I admired him. Although I can do other plays as soon as I see them, I could

never do his now matter how much I tried. But actually, I knew why I couldn't. If I'm admiring, I can't

surpass. Because deep within the heart that hopes for victory. I keep on wishing that he won't lose.

That's why I'll quit admiring you."[40] (when he is about to copy Aomine's techniques)

Trivia Edit

Characters Bible, "What IF Kise was a pi lo t !?"On the first character

poll, Kise ranked 4th, with 1065 votes.

He ranked 2nd in the second character poll, with 1309 votes.

The kanji黄 (Ki) in his name means yellow , hinting to his hair color.

If following the Japanese school year (in which school begins and ends in April), then Kise would

be the eldest of the Generation of Miracles (Kuroko would be the youngest).

According to the Characters Bible, if Kise had an alternate job it would be a pilot. Kise's favoritepastime is to go sing karaoke. His type is a girl that won't tie him down and his motto is: "Be honest

with yourself ".[41]

In the Replace novels, Kise has used his copying ability in Dance Dance Revolution, copying the

movements and rhythm and reaching the highest score.

In the Q&A of chapter 121, it has been said that he hates earthworms and finds them disgusting.

Kise's model work is often showcased in the lifestyle magazine Zunon Boy.

Kise has 2 older sisters, one of which got him into modeling.[42]

and Kagami to the top of Japan.

Appearance Edit

Kuroko has a very small build for a basketball player. He has light blue hair that he styles to his left. His

eyes are blue, and he has a blank gaze. His skin is fairly pale. He wears the number 11 jersey. He also

sometimes wears black sweatbands. His basketball shoes are white with a blue streak.

When out of training or matches, he wears his school uniform: the standard Japanese gakuran. The top

piece of a gakuran is black, long-sleeved and has a standing collar which buttons from the bottom up to

his chin. It has blue trimming on the sleeves and vertically in the middle. He also wears regular black

pants. It has been noted that his bedhead is especially atrocious.[1]

Personality Edit

Page 19: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 19/97

Furious Kuroko; a rare sight

Kuroko has a deadpan and straight forward personality. He is very hard working and always tries to

satisfy the needs of the team above his own. He is quite gloomy and unnoticeable, a trait that goes well

with his misdirection. He has also displayed much respect towards fellow passionate basketball player

and thinks that while senpais have pride, kōhais have respect.[2] Despite his initial kind personality,

Kuroko gets extremely furious at dirty play, when his teammates are threatened and already injured by

foul methods in the Kirisaki Daīchi game. His aura changes so drastically, that Kagami even gets scared

when he sees him like that.[3] When Kuroko gets angry, it gets very hard to beat him, as he is fueled up

with fighting spirit. Also when the situation worsens, he seems to turn talkative.[4]

He has metaphorically referred to himself as a "shadow".[5] With this he means that he is playing for

someone else, and that he becomes stronger when the "light" is stronger. With the "light", he means the

player he supports during a basketball game. During his Junior High school basketball carrer, his "light"was Aomine, and now it is Kagami.

Outside the court, despite his unnoticeable personality, Kuroko is very gentlemanly when dealing with

women. Amongst his friends, Kagami, Aomine and Kise are really shocked to see how easily Kuroko can

cheer upMomoi and even knows what to do on a date.[6] Kuroko also lectures Kagami that he should deal

with women more delicately.

Kuroko and Tetsuya #2

Overall, he is a very calm, rational person, but it is shown that he also has his silly moments. In one

omake he says that he can also become noticeable and does so by pulling his jacket over his head,

making people automatically see him and laugh. There are times where he uses his misdirection ability to

run away, and also a time where he was late for a game but pretends to have always been there from the

start[7] (until Kagami pointed out the sweat on his brow, indicating that he was actually late and had run all

the way to school). While initially cool towards his teammates, he gradually warms up and starts to openly

express himself more. It has been shown that he has a soft spot for cute animals, like kittens and dogs

(Tetsuya #2).

History Edit

In 5th grade, Kuroko saw a basketball match on tv, got interested in it and started playing basketball on a

nearby court, since there weren't any teams he could join. There, he befriended a neighborhood boy, who

taught him basketball. When they split up, they promised that they would meet again in Junior High.[8]

Kuroko in Junior High schoolThe first day of Junior High, in April,

Kuroko is walking in the crowd, with few people noticing him, as usual. He seems determined to join thebasketball club. At the gym, Kuroko is surprised to see so many people trying out for the club and he istold that Teikō's basketball team is famous. The coach explains the club's system, with the first to thirdstrings. Kuroko is aiming for first string but is perplexed when he is divided into the third string, because ofhis weak overall abilities.[9]

Kuroko kept training hard on the club and even stayed late after practices. Because of his weak

presence, he wasn't noticed by those who came to watch and the sounds of basketball in the gym were

credited to a ghost. This lasted until Daiki Aomine came to watch and Kuroko introduced himself. They

quickly became friends, even though Aomine was in the first string and a regular. They practiced together

and gained respect for another, with Aomine wanting to play with him on the same court one day.[10]

Kuroko wearing Teikō's uniform

When Kuroko went to say Aomine that he wanted to quit the basketball team one day, Aomine motivated

him to stay, saying that he admires Kuroko's love of basketball. The players of the first string then

enter, Akashi,Midorima and Murasakibara (Kise wasn't part of the team yet). While Murasakibara didn't

pay much attention to Kuroko, Akashi noticed his lack of presence and said that Kuroko might hide anability completely different from theirs.[11] Kuroko was eventually given a chance and in one match, he

was seen to be completely adaptable with Aomine in terms of passing. It was then that he first discovered

and developed his misdirection and invisible pass.

Kuroko and Aomine

He was part of the team that later would be called the Generation of Miracles. In his second year, he

became the personal instructor of Kise, who still was a rookie.[12] They became friends when they both

had to help with a match of the second string. While playing, he had the number 15. In Teikō, he also first

met Momoi. By giving her free ice-cream, she instantly fell in love with him.[13]

Aomine drifts away from Kuroko

Also in his second year, he witnessed Aomine awakening. While the rest of the GoM were still above

average, Aomine's growth progressed aggressively. As a consequence, Aomine towered high above

anyone else and couldn't find a decent rival. He became too good for his own good and started slacking

off. It was then that Kuroko tried to motivate Aomine in still trying his best, as it isn't fun at all when the

opponent is holding back. Aomine agreed, but quickly discovered that he destroyed everyone's morale

when he started playing serious. He approached Kuroko and told him that he gives up in trying to find a

rival, that he is his only rival. He also denied Kuroko fist bump, the signature move that marked their

friendship.[14]

Page 22: info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 22/97

In Kuroko's third year in Teikō, he began to doubt Teikō's motives and morals and after the finals of a last

tournament, he disappeared and quit the team.[15] He even hated basketball one moment, but this hasn't

been fully explained yet.

Story Edit

Introduction Edit

Kuroko first appears on his first day in Seirin High. He walks through the mass of people who are being

pursued by the clubs to join their club, but Kuroko isn't spoken to, because he makes himself invisible. He

searches for the school's basketball club and fills in an application form, without Riko noticing

him. Koganei sees the paper later and Riko is surprised that she didn't notice one of the Generation of

Miracles.[16]

Kuroko "reveals his presence"

Later, on the first training, Riko uses her scanning ability on everyone on the team. She didn't see Kuroko

and wonders where he is, while the rest of the team haven't seen him either. Riko decides that he's not

here and shouts that they'll begin the training without him. However, Kuroko was standing in front of her

and he tells her that he's right here.[17] Riko and all the others are shocked to see him standing there,

because they haven't noticed him at all. Riko orders him to take of his shirt so that she can see his stats

again, but concludes that he's fairly weak compared to the rest of the team.

Later, after training, Kagami goes to a fast-food restaurant, orders a lot of burgers and has a seat at a

random table. Coincidentally, Kuroko is sitting at the same table. He notices Kagami's amount of food and

comments that he is still growing. Kagami didn't notice Kuroko yet and is surprised to see him. Kagami

asks what he is doing and Kuroko replies that he has simply been watching people.[18] Kagami tells him

to come with him for a bit.

Kagami confronts Kuroko

They arrive at a small basketball court and Kagami asks what Kuroko is hiding. He tells Kuroko that he

has been basketballing in America and that Japan is much weaker than America. He goes on by saying

that he plays basketball for the thrill and that he has heard about the Generation of Miracles. He explains

Kuroko that can smell an opponents smell to some extent. He says that Kuroko should smell weak, but he

can't smell anything. It's like Kuroko is odorless. He passes Kuroko the ball and challenges him to a

match, to see how Kuroko is like for himself. Kuroko says that he has been planning on playing a one-on-

one as well. He takes off his jacket and throws it to the side.

Page 23: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 23/97

They begin playing one-on-one. The match is quickly decided, as Kuroko is so weak in comparison to

Kagami. Kuroko tries to shoot, but misses or gets blocked, fumbles the ball and is much slower the

Kagami. Kagami thinks by himself that Kuroko's movements are that of an amateur.[19] He yells at

Kuroko, saying that he's overestimating himself when he thinks he can win like that. Kuroko denies,

saying that Kagami is obviously the stronger one. Kuroko says that he just wanted to see Kagami's

strength. Kagami prepares to leave, while telling Kuroko that he's weak and that he should just stop

playing basketball. Kuroko replies that he's different from Kagami and mysteriously says that he's a

shadow.

Kuroko shows his ability for the first time

The next day, the Seirin freshmen play against the second years in apractice match. While Kagami is

hogging all the points, Kuroko is again proven to be weak and gets the ball stolen multiple times. When

the second years het serious and build up a 16 point lead, Kagami gets angry, only for Kuroko to calm

him down.[20] Riko thinks by herself that she has totally forgot about Kuroko even being there. The game

restarts and Kuroko asks the ball from Fukuda. Fukuda passes the ball and Kuroko immediately redirects

the ball to Furihata, who was under the basket and scores a simple lay-up.

Kuroko goes on with his invisible passes, leading to the freshmen scoring a lot and coming back into the

game. The other Seirin players amaze themselves over Kuroko's ability and Riko is able to analyze it.

Kuroko gains Kagami's attention and somewhat respect and the mini-game is almost over. The first-years

were still one point behind and when Kuroko steals a second-years ball, he drives to the basket, makes a

lay-up... But misses. All of sudden, an angered Kagami appears behind Kuroko and he dunks the ball in,marking their first victory.[21]

Kuroko's promise to Kagami

That evening, Kuroko and Kagami meet again at the Maji Burger, with Kagami getting annoyed because

they encounter each other yet again. Kagami gives Kuroko one of his burgers, telling him he

acknowledges him. moving out of the restaurant, Kagami asks Kuroko how strong the Generation actually

is. Kuroko replies that when Kagami would go up against them now, he would be instantly killed. He says

that they have all gone to different schools and that one of these will be standing at the top. Kagami

shouts his resolve, defeating the Generation of Miracles and Kuroko says that's unlikely. Yet, Kuroko says

he found his resolve as well. He says that he will make Kagami the strongest of Japan, to be his

supporting shadow.[22]

Page 24: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 24/97

The next day, Kuroko asks Riko if he can become an actual member of the club and then play in

matches. Just like Kagami, who went to ask the same thing some moments later, Kuroko gets an

application form and an invite for the rooftop test. Kuroko meets with Kagami not soon after, when they

are both looking at Seirin's newspaper article form last year. Invisible as usual, Kuroko scares the crap

out of Kagami. Kagami threatens Kuroko to death if he ever does that again. Kagami recalled Kuroko's

former teammates went to veteran school and yet Kuroko went to a new school like Seirin. When Kagami

is about to ask him about it, Kuroko disappears again.[23]

Kuroko with his megaphone

That Monday, Kuroko and the other freshmen go to the roof, where they are awaited by Riko. She tells

them that they have to be ready for the Nationalsin order to join and that they have to shout their name,

class and resolve in front of the entire student body below. Kagami does so without any problems. Kuroko

moves towards the railing and brings out a megaphone, because he finds it difficult to speak to such a

large group without electronic aid. Just when he is about the speak, the club is busted by a teacher and

Kuroko can't fulfill the assignment.[24]

Kuroko's message

That evening, Kuroko sees Kagami again at Maji Burger. He tells him that it's a problem that he hasn't

met the requirements yet to join the team, since the rooftop's guarded since then. Kagami says that he'll

be able to join the team anyway. Kagami moves on by asking why exactly he went to Seirin when the

other GoM joined elite schools. Kuroko tells him the extreme winning philosophy of Teikō and that that

was the end of teamwork. He tells Kagami that he was moved by his and the entire Seirin team's motives

and resolutions and concludes by saying that he's only playing basketball in order to make him and the

team the best in Japan. Kagami leaves by saying that it'll really happen. Between then and the next

morning, Kuroko wrote "I will make you the number one in Japan" with chalk on the school's courtyard, for

everyone to see. With this, he officially joins the Seirin basketball team.[25]

One of the next trainings, Riko announces a practice match against Kaijō High and says that they have

one of theGeneration of Miracles, this being Ryōta Kise. When Kise enters the scene, they greet each

other and say they haven't seen each other in a while. Kise says that he went to Seirin because he

remembered that it was the school Kuroko joined. He claims that he and Kuroko got along in Junior High

school, but Kuroko denies. When the other players are amazed by Kise's history as one of the GoM, Kise

again identifies with Kuroko as the weakest of the bunch, being picked on, but Kuroko denies yet again.

Kise is challenged by Kagami and when Kise shows his copy of Kagami's earlier move, Kuroko explains

Page 25: info about kuroko's basketball

his ability further. He is perplexed to see Kise's growth, even going as far as saying that he's a totally

different person.[26] Out of the blue, Kise asks Kuroko to join his team, but Kuroko bluntly refuses. He

says that he has already vowed to defeat the Generation of Miracles, but Kise isn't taking him serious.

Kuroko presses the fact that he is very serious.

Seirin vs Kaijō Edit

Kuroko steals Kasamatsu's ballThe day of the match, Kaijō seems to

underestimate Seirin High since they're only using half a court. The other half is for the other memberswho won't be playing to continue their practice, since Kaijō's coach, CoachTakeuchi, assume they won'tlearn anything from the game. Everyone in Seirin is pissed off, although Kuruko masks it. Coach Takeuchialso won't letKise play since he thinks its already unfair for Seirin playing their regulars. Kise asks Seirin

to agitate the coach for him to let him play, also agitating them that if they can't let him in the game, theycertainly won't beat "The Generation of Miracles". To this, Kuroko says to Kise that he should warm upsince it won't long for him to be in the game. At the start of the game, Kagami breaks the goal after a stealfrom Kuroko and Kuroko asks Coach Takeuchi to use the full court.[27]

It's only been three minutes after the start of the game but everyone is fired up, resulting in a high-paced

play and takes a toll on Kuroko's weak body. When Riko calls a time-out, Kuroko tells the team about his

technique's weakness. He won't be able to use Misdirection after 40 minutes. The more he uses it, the

more their opponents get used to it and its effect gradually decreases. Riko is enraged the Kuroko didn't

say something that important sooner while putting him in a headlock. He apologizes and that they didn't

ask he didn't tell.[28]

After the time-out, Kaijō puts an 8-point gap between Seirin. But during the second half, Kuroko

coordinates with Kagami, passing the ball between the two of them. In defense, Kuroko suddenly faces

Kise. Short on speed, Kuroko is easily passed by Kise but when he is stalled by Kagami, Kuroko lunges

backwards and taps Kise's ball, stealing it. Later, Kise tries to shoot over Kuroko, but is blocked by

Kagami. Then, Kise accidentally hit Kuroko in the head, resulting in an injury. Kise is stunned by what

happened, and could only stare at Kuroko's face. With Kuroko resting, the original Seirin team show their

skills. Even though he is injured, Kuroko manages to convince Riko to let him play sometime during the

third quarter.[29]

With Kuroko back in the game at his full Misdirection level, Seirin manages to close in on Kaijō with a tie.

However, Kise powers up again, gets around Kuroko's steal and scores points for Kaijō. The struggle for

points begins again and with mere seconds remaining, Kagami blocks Kasamatsu's shot and goes for a

fast-break with Kuroko. They are awaited by Kise under the basket. Kagami passes to Kuroko and he

throws it up for the alley-oop, winning the match.[30]

After the game, since they have no money and the team wanted to go eat something as a celebration,

Riko takes them all to a restaurant that serves 4kg steak for free which has to be finished in 30 minutes or

else they'll pay 10,000 yen each if they fail, the Steak Bomber. Everyone except Kuroko and Kagami

thought that this is too much, though it seems that Kuroko is just expressionless as always since he is the

Page 26: info about kuroko's basketball

first one to give up while Kagami saved them all from paying by eating all of the member's half-eaten

steaks.[31]

While everyone was still inside, Kuroko went out and met Kise. They both go to a playground to talk,

leaving behind the team. They talk about Midorima, who is also a member of the "Generation of Miracles",

with Kise saying that he went to see the practice match. But what Kise wanted to talk about was why

Kuroko disappeared during last year's middle school championship game. To which Kuroko answers that

he doesn't know either, but what he does know is that he hated basketball during that time and that he

highly respects Kagami's attitude towards basketball. Kise doesn't get it and says that someday, when

Kagami reaches the level of the "Generation of Miracles", he will drift apart from the team. When Kagami

finds them he argues with Kise. They then notice that Kuroko is protecting some highschoolers from some

thugs in a basketball court.

Return of Kiyoshi Edit

Kuroko meets KiyoshiKuroko first meets Kiyoshi while training in the

gym. He shoots, misses and Kiyoshi picks up his ball. He tells Kuroko that he has seen that all he can dois pass, but that he likes that style of playing and that he just lacks experience. Kuroko asks who he isand Kiyoshi gives his name and offers him candy, to which Kuroko declines. He further introduces himselfas the founder of the Seirin High School basketball club.[32] He spells out his name in separate kanji's,but Kuroko reacts bluntly and uninterested.

As Kuroko asks what he is doing here, Kiyoshi explains that he will be discharged from the hospital in a

week and that he came to take a look. He then saw a worried Kuroko and says to Kuroko that he has

expectations from him and that he's interesting. He explains why basketball has different positions and

says that the sixth player is a specialist. He continues by saying that he has never seen such an extreme

specialist as Kuroko, but that the only thing Kuroko has accomplished so far is intimidation. He asks the

ball from Kuroko and takes a shot himself, while saying that the only one who decides his limit is Kuroko

himself.[33] He concludes that Kuroko should have more faith in his abilities and leaves after that.

Pre-Winter Cup Edit

Kuroko arrives at Seirin's training a little late and announces that he brought a dog in a box. He tells them

that he found the dog in the park of Seirin High School and couldn't bear leaving it, so he took it to

practice. Meanwhile, the dog has crawled up Kuroko's head and shaking his tail. Izuki looks at the dog

more closely and asks if the dog reminds them of someone and later they realise that the dog resembles

Kuroko a lot, so Koga decides to call himTetsuya #2.[34]

Kuroko teases Kagami

When Kagami confesses his fear for dogs, Kuroko chases him with Tetsuya #2 on purpose. The club later

votes to keep the dog, with only Kagami opposing. Kuroko sadly asks Kagami if he wants to abandon the

doggie a second time. Riko tells Kuroko that it'll be difficult to keep him, but Kuroko proposes that if he

can get Kagami to like Tetsuya #2, that they will keep him.[35] Riko accepts and Kuroko takes Tetsuya #2

along with Seirin's jogging. Back in the gym, Seirin starts training and when Kuroko makes a successful

invisible pass, Tetsuya #2 barks and seems happy. Kuroko plays further with Tetsuya #2, only annoying

the hell out of Kagami.

Eventually, Tetsuya #2 poops into Kagami's sneakers and an enraged Kagami washes them outside.

Kuroko approaches him and asks him why he doesn't simply accept Tetsuya #2. He tries to convince

Kagami that #2 is a good dog and that he could just try to pet him. They are disturbed by Kawahara, who

calls Kuroko inside. Kuroko leaves #2 with Kagami and they reconcile.[36]

Winter Cup preliminaries Edit

Final league Edit

Winter Training Camp Edit

On the last day of the Winter Camp, Kuroko overhears a conversation between Kiyoshi and Hyūga.

Kiyoshi tells Hyūga that the Winter Cup will be his final tournament and that they will have to be number 1

this year already. Kuroko decides that he will throw away their chances for the future in order to win this

year's Winter Cup.[37]

The training camp is supervised by Riko's father, Kagetora, who was used to be a national player. He

tried to train and enhance every player individual skills, but told Riko that he give up on Kuroko, said thateven he never meet such an extreme outline special sportman in his life, but already gave him some

suggestions.[38] It is known later that it is for Kuroko to develop his shooting for when he has the space

after he passes his opponent with his Vanishing Drive.

Winter Cup Edit

Kuroko joins Seirin at the opening ceremony of the Winter Cup. When the ceremony was finished, Kuroko

receives a text message on his cellphone. He tells Riko that he has to go, he has been summoned. He

tells the team he is going to see his former captain, the leader of the Generation of

Miracles, Akashi.[39] Riko sends Furihata along.

Kuroko reunites with his former teammates

Kuroko meets up with his fellow Generation of Miracles and while Aominemakes fun of him at having a

chaperone, Kuroko greets them. They talk casually to each other but Furihata could feel the air is heavy,

and recalled in spite of being former teammates Kuroko and other Generation of Miracle members are

rivals now in court. Akashi arrives shortly and greets them all. He demands that Furihata leaves becausehe wants to speak with his comrades. Kagami finally arrives and like Furihata, Kuroko is surprised and

happy to see him. Akashi attacks Kagami with Midorima's scissors and Kuroko is seen shocked like

everyone else. Akashi leaves again and says to the rest that it seems they haven't forgotten their oath

they made last year.[40] He departs by saying that the next time they will meet, will be in battle.

Round 1 Edit

Seirin's first match of the Winter Cup is about to begin and Kuroko fetches Kagami from the locker room.

Kuroko looks worried, but Kagami sets him at ease, saying that he isn't thinking about Akashi, but about

Aomine. When the match begins, Kuroko approaches Aomine. Recalling his past experiences with

Aomine, from their last match, to their friendship and his promise with Momoi, he declares to Aomine thatthey will definitely win this time.[41]Aomine agrees to settle it for good. Both teams line up and the match

commences.

Kuroko breaks through AomineSeirin gets the ball at the tip off, but it gets stolen by Tōō's pressure defense.Sakurai passes to Aomine,

who does an alley-oop and scores the first point. Following Riko's orders given before the match, Seirin

quickly passes to Kuroko, who pulls up for his Ignite Pass Kai, intending to pass to Kiyoshi.[42] Facing

Aomine, Kuroko doesn't even activate his Misdirection on him, showing confidence in the strength of his

new pass. He puts much power in his legs, rotates his arm and hits the ball with the palm of his hand,

also spinning. The ball spirals besides Aomine, knocking his hand away, and eventually reaches Kiyoshi,

Page 29: info about kuroko's basketball

who receives the ball with effort. Kiyoshi, after facing Wakamatsu, passes to Kagami and he dunks the

ball.

In the audience, the Generation of Miracles amaze themselves over Kuroko's new pass. Aomine

approaches him and says that he has gotten a bit more interesting. Kuroko responds that if Aomine

thought they would be the same as before, then he would be dissapointed.[43]

Back to the game, Imayoshi gives a high pass to Susa. Kuroko is guarding him but can't do anything

because Susa is much bigger than Kuroko and because of the high pass, he also can't use his

misdirection and steal it.

The match goes on with Hyūga's Barrier Jumper versus Sakurai's quick-release shot. Sakurai scores

another three-pointer with the time of the first quarter running out. Kuroko ends up with the ball and shows

his Invisible Drive for the first time in the Winter Cup.[44] He is able to break through Susa's defense, but

encounters Wakamatsu at the basket. He passes outside to Hyūga and he scores another three-pointer.

Seirin goes out of the first quarter with a tie on the scoreboard.

Kuroko's Vanishing Drive on Aomine

During the pause, Kuroko tells Riko that he will do the Vanishing Drive one more time. Riko agrees and

resumes that it's better if they use it now. Meanwhile at Tōō's side, Momoi figures out the system of the

Vanishing Drive and tells the team to keep Kagami and Kuroko apart. The match restarts and Kagami

screens out Susa and Kuroko runs free. He gets the ball and faces Aomine. They have a conversation

how they both have a mutual understanding of basketball. Kuroko and Kagami do the Vanishing Drive

together and Kuroko seemingly passes Aomine. But Aomine suddenly turns around and cuts Kuroko off,

defeating his last resort move. He was able to do that by closing his eyes and trusting on his feeling to

follow Kuroko. He steals Kuroko's ball and dunks. He approaches Kuroko and says that he can't defeat

him, putting Kuroko even more in despair.[45]

In hopelessness, Kuroko tries to defeat Aomine by launching his new Ignite Pass Kai right off the get-go.

He fires the ball, but is stopped by Aomine. Aomine tells Kuroko that his effort is futile and over dribbleshim. He scores and Tōō takes the lead. At a time-out called by Riko, she subs him out for Koga. He

refuses Furihata's taping and stays alone with his grief. While thinking about his history with Aomine, he

clenches his fist and is frustrated because he can't beat him.[46] As Seirin is about to go back to the

game, Kagami goes to Kuroko and motivates him by saying that everyone believes that he'l l come back

and defeat aomine. He tells Kuroko that his effort wasn't futile at all.

Kuroko and Kagami outside the WC building

While Kuroko was on the bench defeated, Kagami became the one who had to help Kuroko and

unleashed his nearly full potential. His true power came out and he was able to fight with Aomine on the

same level. Eventually, half time is reached with Tōō's two point lead. In the half time break, Kuroko went

outside to get some fresh air and was joined by Kagami, who brought him a jacket. He asks Kagami if he

enjoys basketball and tells him his past inTeikō Junior High, how he befriended a totally different Aomine

than in the present. He concludes that he wants to see Aomine play basketball with a smile

again.[47] Kagami says that they'll do that by playing as hard as they can and win the match.

During half-time, in the locker room, Kuroko tells the team his plan. This is to make his misdirection run

out in order for him to use his Misdirection Overflow. He explains that by making the opponents' glances

focus at him, the other players will have the chance to use Kuroko's Vanishing Drive.

Kuroko gets back in the game with his Ignite Pass

They go back inside and enter the court for the second half. Kuroko is back in. Tōō starts with the offense

and Aomine ends up with the ball. He drives past Kagami, but is forcefully stopped by Kuroko, who

predicted his path and was able to make Aomine bump into him, making an offensive foul. He says that

while Aomine knows him well in terms of basketball, the opposite is also true. He is helped up back on his

feet by Kagami. In Seirin's offense, Kuroko gets the ball, but passes through to Kagami. It seems that

Kuroko got back in to help Kagami is defense with his experience, but he gets the ball back

from Kiyoshi and suddenly fires his Ignite Pass to Hyūga.[48] Hyūga scores a three-pointer and gets Seirin

the lead. He later complains about the pass being way too hard.

When Seirin is back in offense, everyone is shocked to find out thatImayoshi is now guarding Kuroko.

Kuroko tries to get to the ball by using his usual misdirection, but for some reason it doesn't work and

Kuroko is unable to shake off Imayoshi's defense. It was then revealed that Momoi discovered the trick

behind Kuroko's misdirection, that his position is revealed by the eyefield of the passer. They made it so

Page 31: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 31/97

that Imayoshi switched with Susa and is now rendering Kuroko disabled.[49] The ball is eventually passed

to Kuroko, but Imayoshi manages to steal the ball.

Kuroko vs. Imayoshi

The match progresses and Kuroko still can't manage to shake off Imayoshi. He has been trying to change

Seirin's patterns by passing all over the place (like during the match with Kirisaki Daīchi), but Imayoshi

reads his every move and seals him completely. After a few minutes, Susa changes back to guard

Kuroko. This means that Kuroko's misdirection has worn off and that everyone can see him clearly now.

Now that Kuroko's abilities are suppressed, Seirin is hopeless in the match.[50]

Imayoshi tries to convince Seirin to give this match up and hope for next time, but Kuroko and the entireSeirin team disagree. They become fired up again and regain their fighting spirit to win now. It is around

that moment that Kuroko's misdirection has completely run out and that his sudden appearance as the

tenth man on court begins to dawn. Kuroko activates hisMisdirection Overflow, actually amplifies his

presence and makes it able for Izuki to use the Vanishing Drive.[51]Izuki scores.

Misdirection Overflow

On Seirin's next offense, Kuroko does it again and Hyūga does the Vanishing Drive and makes the lay-

up. Kuroko's explanation during half-time is seen and his technique is explained by Riko. But MisdirectionOverflow also has two downsides, as clarified by Midorima. The first is the limited time of the technique

and the second is throwing away every chance of winning against Tōō in the future. Kuroko fully realizes

this, but puts winning here, for the team and for Kiyoshi over winning in the future. Seirin gains the ball yet

again and even Aomine can be passes by Kagami's Vanishing Drive by Kuroko's Misdirection

Overflow.[52] Seirin's chances have turned.

Page 32: info about kuroko's basketball

In the time-out between the third and the last quarter, Kuroko seems drained. After Aomine gets his

passion back and begins scoring, Kuroko agrees with Kagami and Kiyoshi to triple-team Aomine. Aomine

still passes Kagami and Kiyoshi and when he's about to be blocked by Kagami, he falls and throws the

ball to the ring in the fall. But before he can shoot, he is distracted, even for a moment, by Kuroko's

Misdirection Overflow. This leads to the ball bouncing of the rim and missing. It turns out that Kuroko's

new skill was specially designed for stopping Aomine's shots like this.[53]

Aomine later realizes that he has finally found a competent opponent and thanks Kuroko. Aomine gets in

the Zone.

Though Kuroko is extremely fragile, fairly weak and distressingly slow, Kuroko's talents allow him to play

a central role in any team. Possessing a superbly observant eye in addition to his ability to blend in

invisibly to any environment, Kuroko can perform imperceptible passes and virtually unstoppable steals,

getting the ball to and between his teammates faster than opponents can react. His near-invisibility makes

him highly susceptible to on-court injuries however. Further, his talent is not effective indefinitely. If he is

left in play too long, opponents grow used to his misdirection tactics; as such, he must be placed on the

bench at varying points in any match to prevent this.

Page 33: info about kuroko's basketball

He mostly plays on the position of small forward, but in recent chapters his stats list his position as a

questionmark. Why this, is as of yet unknown.

Misdirection Edit

Kuroko reverts the attention away from him, to

another player and to the ball

1 of 3

Accordingly to his gloomy and silent personality, he is pretty hard to notice. In addition to that, he has also

developed a playing technique using that "invisibility". He simply behaves as if another player will get the

ball and not him. He pushes the opponents to focuse their attention to someone else and then steps in

unexpectedly. When the opponent can't see him, it is much easier to steal the ball. Misdirection is a

technique that fools the opponent's senses. This is how he got his nickname, the "phantom player".[54]

Kuroko uses his misdirection in function of his teammates. He must make eye-contact with the passer

while doing his misdirection and so the eyefield of the other players becomes a "mirror" for Kuroko's

position. This also marks the key to disabling Kuroko's misdirection. The player guarding him must simplystop looking at Kuroko, but look at the passer and derive Kuroko's position from him.[55] So far, the only

person capable of doing that is Imayoshi.

Invisible Pass Edit

Kuroko's Invisible Pass

Following from his misdirection, Kuroko uses himself as a relay for passes and redirects the ball to

another player by just gently touching it. He receives the ball from another player and immediatly changes

its course to a free player. This pass is very hard to predict and almost always leads to a basket.

The true form of this pass, according to Midorima, is a tap pass, which allows Kuroko to change direction

of the ball without touching the ball for a long period. This is the only type of pass that works well with his

misdirection because of minimum contact with the ball.

Page 34: info about kuroko's basketball

Ignite Pass Edit

Kuroko's Ignite Pass

As an extension of his regular pass, Kuroko can also move the ball even quicker. He only does this if his

imperceptible pass can be intercepted at some point. When he receives the ball, he punches it directly to

a free player. This way, the force behind the pass will increase greatly and the ball will move much faster.

This pass is also called the Acceleration Pass.

But because this pass is very powerful, only some players can catch it succesfully, in Junior High school

only Generation of Miracles were capable of receiving this pass. In Seirin, Kuroko only passes this way

to Kagami and occasionally to Teppei Kiyoshi.[56]After their harsh training in Summer, according to Aida

Riko all second years now are capable to receive it however it's painful for them as Hyuga said. Teppei

Kiyoshi also noted when the first time he receive this pass in street basketball tournament he could

receive it but not continuously.

Ignite Pass Kai Edit

  Kuroko's Ignite Pass Kai

Add photo

A new, upgraded version of the Ignite Pass. Instead of just punching the ball with the palm of his hand, he

also puts a strong spin on it. He spins his arm and wrist round and round and creates a rotation aroundthe ball. By doing this, like a gunshot, Kuroko puts more acceleration and power behind the pass by

transferring the rotation of his arm to the ball. The ball is so strong that it can even pass the Generation's

ace, Aomine. He learned this in the winter training camp, under leading of Kagetora.

Cyclone Pass Edit

Page 35: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 35/97

Kuroko spins and passes the ball across the courtWhen the opponents score, Kuroko takes the ball, spins very fast and releases the ball to fly across the

whole court. The pass is very fast and powerful, and flies in a straight line from the start to the end of the

course, which is perfect for fast-break. Someone remarks it as Ichiro's laser beam (Ichiro is a famous

Japanese baseball outfielder). He first showed this in the game against Shūtoku High, in a fast-break

with Kagami against Midorima.[57] In their second match, Kuroko showed his full court pass without

spinning first.[58]

Vanishing Drive Edit

  Vanishing Drive

1 of 4

Add photo

After being soundly defeated by Daiki Aomine, Kuroko trains himself to evolve his play style. Given the

absolute presence and importance of the ball in play, it had been previously thought impossible for

Kuroko to maintain his misdirection while in possession of the ball; as such the time he spends handling

the ball on court is extremely minimal. He has overcome this previous limitation, and has developed the

ability to imperceptibly move past players while dribbling the ball, creating his own 'vanishing' drive. The

ability is effective enough to pass through the defenses of Shintarō Midorima, a members of the

Generation of Miracles, and can also passTakao's Hawk's Eye.[59] Kazuya Hara has speculated that

Kuroko uses blinking to get passed the defense, but this has been proven wrong.

The real explanation of this skill was given by Midorima, in Seirin's second match against Tōō. The skill is

basically a cross-diagonal move (a duck-in) to where the opponent's eye field can't see. Kuroko bends

over in a specific angle at drives following a specific route, that the opponent has it very difficult to

follow.[60] But the real Vanishing Drive is a collaboration with Kagami. Similar to Kuroko's misdirection,

Kagami draws the attention of the opponent to him, just for a second, and that makes it possible for

Page 36: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 36/97

Kuroko to pass his opponent successfully.

The only one so far to have beaten the Vanishing Drive, is Aomine. He countered it and stole the ball by

closing his eyes, making Kagami's misdirection ineffective. He just followed Kuroko's breath and because

of their mutual understanding about basketball, Aomine was able to crush down the Vanishing Drive.[61]

Misdirection Overflow Edit

Misdirection Overflow

A skill Kuroko developed after completing his Vanishing Drive. He realized that if he can activate his

regular misdirection and divert the attention away from him, that the opposite is also true. This is that

when his misdirection has run out and his presence on the court is beginning to show. The sudden

appearance of a tenth player will attract the attention of the other players. By deliberately running out of

misdirection, he is giving his teammates the ability of the Vanishing Drive. The effects are clear: Kuroko

has run out of his regular moves, but his teammates can now use the Vanishing Drive freely.[62][63]

There is however, also a grave downside to the use of this technique. The first is that it must only be used

at the very end of the match. It's the same with his regular misdirection, he can't keep fooling the

opponents for too long. The second is that while he is using this ability, he is also showing the secret

behind it. In a way, he is throwing away a very valuable trump card he cannot use against the same

opponent twice. Against a very strong team like Tōō Academy, Seirin can't win again without a trump

card, rendering a rematch against them as an inevitable loss.[64]

Phantom Shot Edit

Page 37: info about kuroko's basketball

  Kuroko's Phantom Shot

Add photo

Because Kuroko won't be such a threat anymore now that the data of his inability to shoot is known

amongst the Yōsen High team. Because of this reason, Kuroko began training on his shot, but only with

failing attempts to score. Kuroko brought Aomine in to train him and he told him that while normal players

pass with the palm of their hands, Kuroko passes like a normal player shoots, with his wrist and fingertips.

In his shot, he tries to do the same, but a pass and a shot are totally different, so Kuroko has trouble with

gauging the distance to the hoop.[65]

Because of this, Aomine pushed Kuroko to learn a new shot by himself, the Phantom Shot. The essence

is to use the palm of his hand to thrust the ball forward, although that will mess up the shooting

posture.[66] Further more, because of the shooting position, the ball is lower than a usual shot. Instead of

shooting the ball over one's head, the Phantom Shot releases from the chest. The opponent naturallylooks lower because of the ball's position, so his view is limited. By a fast release, Kuroko can shoot the

ball through the opponents field of vision.[67] Using the Phantom Shot, Kuroko make the first basket in

front of Murasakibara, the tallest player in all of Japan, thus score the first point against Yōsen in the

whole tournament. Kuroko used his Phantom Shot in the whole Yōsen match, and Murasakibara could

not block any of them, though Kuroko misses some himself.

The secret to stopping this shot however, is backing off and keeping distance to Kuroko. That way, the

field of vision will not be limited downwards and the ball is visible. Kasamatsu is the first one to figure this

out, after which he successfully closed in on Kuroko and blocked the shot.

Kuroko Kagami alley-oop Edit

Kuroko and Kagami's combination playA move that Kuroko

and Kagami often execute. One of the opponents tries to pass, but Kuroko intercepts the ball. He smacks

Page 38: info about kuroko's basketball

the ball onto the ground in the direction of the basket. Kagami jumps high in the sky, grabs the ball anddunks it in. They have first showed this in the match against Shinkyō Academy[68] and did it again inthe game against Seihō High.[69]

Relationships Edit

Taiga Kagami Edit

Kuroko and Kagami

Kuroko and Kagami are best friends. They met when they both joined theSeirin basketball team and when

discovering that their different plays complement each other perfectly, they make the mutual promise to

become the best in Japan. When playing together, they understand each other perfectly, which makes

them a lethal rookie-duo. Kuroko has described his friendship to Kagami as shadow and light. With

Kagami as the light, Kuroko will support him as a shadow, and when the light becomes stronger, the

shadow grows as well. They have often won matches due to their cooperation plays.[70][71]

Not only when playing basketball, but also off court, they are good friends (though they note that they

don't talk to each other much outside of basketball). They often hang out together at school, with Kuroko

acting his usual self, often with a comically enraged Kagami as a response. They understand each other

and can motivate, calm down and share feelings with one another. Kagami is also one of the reasons

Kuroko was able to turn his back to the GoM's way of playing.

Daiki Aomine Edit

“  When it comes to basketball, we do think alike.

” —Tetsuya Kuroko, to Daiki Aomine

Aomine was Kuroko's best friend and "light" back at Teikō Junior High School. Aomine was starter at first,

when Kuroko was still third stringer. That didn't matter to Aomine, because he saw the same amount of

basketball passion in Kuroko that he has. They practiced together after training and quickly became

friends to the point where Aomine calls Kuroko Tetsu. When Kuroko was promoted to playing with the

starters, his play was very in sync with Aomine.

Aomine once stated that the two have very little in common but that basketball is what brings their

friendship together. Midorima once said their way of play is so compatible to the point of annoyance.

Outside of the court they would hangout and grab ice cream together after practices or games.

The Kuroko-Aomine relationship that pretty much mimes theKuroko-Kagami relationship

Over time Aomine changed: he became stronger and eventually lost his passion for basketball because

he was too strong for his opponents and winning was no longer fun. Kuroko tried convince him that

Aomine would eventually find a formidable opponent, but during the championships Aomine dominated

the competition once again and deemed that he can beat himself as everyone else sucked. From then on

the two grew more distance between them as they were no longer friends and Kuroko quit Teiko

basketball.

When the two were first brought together, Aomine still showed the same attitude he had at the end of his

Junior High school days. It was shown that Aomine expressed indifference when Midorima pointed out

Kuroko would face him during the Inter-high championships. During the game Aomine overslept and

didn't show up till the second quarter, though during the second half of the game Aomine completely

destroyed Seirin stopping Kuroko including his ignite pass, misdirections among others. Aomine

approches Kuroko at one point during the match and proclaim that he is disappointed in Kuroko because

hasn't improved much since playing at Teiko and mentions that his current basketball abilities wouldn't

beat him, also bringing up Akashi's prediction that Kuroko's style wouldn't bring winning basketball.

Kuroko and Aomine reconcileKuroko and Aomine have met up a few times between the interhigh championships and Winter Cup, as

each time their talks would heat up and challenges would be made. During their match in round 1 of the

Winter Cup Touou still towered over Seirin, but Seirin gradually got better and better over the course of

the match. At one point during the match, Kuroko used his Vanishing Drive against Aomine it first worked

but Aomine was able to stop it after seeing it a few times. He also eventually stole his Ignite Pass Kai

pass, crushing his will completely. The match would then turn into a matchup between Kagami and

Page 40: info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 40/97

Aomine as the two now were pretty evenly matched. Unexpectedly, Kuroko comes back into the match

and uses his Misdirection Overflow helping Seirin score a few points. Eventually Kuroko also forces

Aomine to miss a basket. At the peak of his excitement and gratitude toward Kuroko, Aomine goes into

"The Zone", the pinancle state of concentration that only few chosen athlete can achieve takes control of

the match. Kagami then follows suit and enters "Zone" as well and during the last seconds, as he and

Aomine are stuck in a stalemate until Kagami finally gains the upper hand and eventually win against

Aomine. He and Kuroko bump fists once again and promise to compete again. Because of the tough

match, Aomine regained his passion and enjoyment and sees Kuroko as his friend once again. Aomine

even agreed to help Kuroko develop his Phantom Shot.

Ryōta Kise Edit

Kuroko and Kise

Back in Teikō, Kuroko was Kise's personal instructor before he made it to regulars of the first string.

Kuroko, as personal instructor of Kise, didn't take his display of disrespect seriously, even when Kise

challenged him for a spot as Teikō's regular. Kuroko respected Kise's enthusiasm and taught him that,

"What's the most important for the team is that to think what you should do for the team."

Kise witnessed Kuroko's skill as phantom player afterward and respected him, in his opinion Kuroko's way

of play is some sort of sacrifice for team's sake and yet Kuroko doesn't see it as a sacrifice which makes

Kuroko even more amazing in his eyes.[72] Kuroko became one of few people Kise acknowledged and

since then he called Kuroko as Kurokocchi. Since then, whenever they meet, Kise acts overly friendly and

sees him and Kuroko as best friends, a relation Kuroko denies. In the Character Bible, he even goes as

far as to say that Kuroko was the person he was closest to in Junior High school (Kuroko said that he was

closest to Aomine). Since their first match together, Kise has admired Kuroko to the point of obsession.

He always tries to bring up Kuroko in conversations and tries to be together with him as much as

possible, especially in the anime's ending omakes.

Kuroko always expresses apathy towards Kise's antics but will chide him if he is getting out of line.

Kuroko respects Kise as basketball player and has faith in his skill, and even goes as far as telling Kise

he wouldn't be surprised if either Aomine and Kise would come out as the winner in

the match between Tōō and Kaijō.[73] An encouragement Kise was grateful for. It was later revealed in

the semi-finals of the Winter Cup that Kuroko had always felt a one-sided rivalry with Kise, because eventhough he was Kuroko's first trainee, he had quickly surpassed him. Kise was happy when he heard this,

stating, "That isn't just a compliment... That kind of stuff really sets me on fire!"

Satsuki Momoi Edit

Momoi's clingy attitude towards KurokoKuroko and Momoi are friends from Junior High school. Because of Momoi's naivety, she fell in love with

him after Kuroko gave her free ice-cream.[74]Being the manager of the basketball team, Momoi grew

closer to an oblivious Kuroko and made advances; these have been as of yet unanswered by Kuroko.

Momoi actually sees Kuroko as her boyfriend, while Kuroko keeps denying this. They have gone on a

date before, but while Momoi sees it romantically, Kuroko only precepts it as friendly. He is very kind to

her, defends her, and at times grows angry on her behalf. In the -Replace- novel, it is revealed that he

once challenged to take on five high schoolers in a basketball match by himself because they were

harrassing Momoi, later causing her to fall more deeply in love with him. Due to his natural feeling of

dealing with women, Kuroko can comfort Momoi and knows how to act on dates; this allows him to be

able to cheer up Momoi quite easily.

Shintarō Midorima Edit

Kuroko and Midorima

Just like the other members of the Generation of Miracles, Kuroko and Midorima acknowledge and

respect each other's skill respectively. Kuroko admitted that he has a hard time getting along with

Midorima, a sentiment Midorima shared because their incompatibility according to blood type and also

because Kuroko's chosen team. Midorima stated he couldn't stand Kuroko because he acknowledge

Kuroko who in spite of his inability is skilled enough to stand as his equal and yet went to a no name team

who couldn't bring his power to the fullest.[75] Midorima has so far shown good understanding of theories

behind Kuroko's skill, the opposite of Aomine whose understanding of Kuroko is by instinct and their

former partnership.

Kuroko once bluntly stated Midorima is so smart but sometimes he is dumb when arguing over the best

basketball technique with Kise. In Kuroko's opinion his 3 pointer is amazing but the worth of point only

goes so far, Kagami's dunk that bring up team's morale can't be measured in comparison.

Other Generation of Miracles Edit

Atsushi Murasakibara: Although Kuroko likes Murasakibara as a person, Kuroko and Murasakibara

don't get along well because of Murasakibara's lack of passion for basketball. This is why, in spite

Page 42: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 42/97

of mutual respect to each other's skill, they couldn't get along when it comes to basketball. Outside

of basketball, Kuroko describes Murasakibara as "a kid with a screw loose." As for Murasakibara,

Kuroko's seriousness irritates him, but he does acknowledge him in some way like other

Generation of Miracle members. Murasakibara also often makes fun of and teases Kuroko by

petting him on the head, something that visibly annoys Kuroko.[76]Aomine once pointed out that

the way they view basketball is too different: Murasakibara has been winning with only talent and

no passion, while Kuroko has struggled to get where he was with effort but no talent. Kuroko dislike

Murasakibara's bad habit of discouraging who tried their best to play basketball, this repeatedly

sparks argument between them back in Junior High school.

Seijūrō Akashi: Kuroko and Akashi's relationship hasn't been fully revealed yet, though it was

mentioned that Akashi was the one who discovered Kuroko's talent and the one who taught him

basketball techniques and helped strengthen his misdirections. Akashi is also the one who

promoted Kuroko from the third string toTeikō's regulars.[77] Like his former teammates, Kuroko

respects, but also fears Akashi. It was shown in the beginning of the Winter Cup that Kuroko

obeyed Akashi's summon without question.

In novel replace Kuroko mentioned "if Akashi was a teacher, it would make lessons very easy to

understand." This likely refers to their time back at Teiko when Akashi was Kuroko's personal instructor.

Seirin team Edit

Kuroko is highly respectful (in his own deadpan way) of his seniors and friendly with the other first-years.

He is quite close to Teppei Kiyoshi, who he sees as the big brother he never had. He does, however,

slightly fear the coachRiko Aida, like the rest of the team for her deadly cooking skills and the constant

wrestling moves she performs on him when angry.

Other Edit

Kazunari Takao, during the Shutoku vs Seirin match at Interhigh, Takao expressed his dislike

towards Kuroko due to how similar their playing styles are and sees him as a rival.[78] Despite this,

he is often paired with Kuroko and hides with him to spy on conversations between Kagami and

Midorima.[79]

Makoto Hanamiya, Hanamiya has earned Kuroko's wrath due to his sadistic nature and joy of

injuring players who play basketball with passion. Hanamiya enjoyed taunting Kuroko, but Kuroko's

basketball passion eventually silenced Hanamiya.[80]

Papa Mbaye Siki, Kuroko was often irritated being called a kid by Papa. Papa had the impression

that the Generation of Miracles weren't such a big deal and Kuroko proved him wrong.[81]

Quotes Edit   "I am a supporting actor, a shadow. But a shadow will become darker if the light is stronger and it

will make the white of the light stand out. As the shadow of the main actor, I will make you, the

light, the number one in Japan."[82]

"Then what is victory if you are not happy?"

"… Stop messing around. I chose to fight because I believed the basketball of  Generation of

Miracles was wrong. But they would never do anything as dirty as what you've done… !! Using

Kuroko's earliest concept as seen in Characters Bible

Characters Bible, "What IF Kuroko was a kindergarden teacher !?"In the original datebook, Characters Bible, an early character concept of Kuroko is seen.

Not much of his appearance has changed, though he does seem less gloomy and invisible than

the finished concept.

On the first character poll, Kuroko ranked first, with 2625 votes. He won again on the second poll,

this time with 2242 votes.

His name, Kuroko, is an actual Japanese term. It stands for "stagehands" in Japanese

theater.[85] The stagehands are the roles of animals, puppets, objects,... fullfilled by the hands of a

regular actor. But only his hands are seen, the actor himself is supposed to be "invisible". This is a

clear reference to Kuroko's playing style.

The kanji黒 (Kuro) in his name means black , hinting to him being a "shadow".

Punching the ball with your fist is a violation of the rules. Because Kuroko did this to accelerate the

ball, when the volume 4 was published, this was changed to his palm instead of his fist. The

second time he did a Ignite Pass, it was shown with the palm of his hand.[86] His Ignite Pass Kai is

also with the palm of his hand.

In school, his best courses are humanities: history and geography.[87]

If following the Japanese school year (in which school begins and ends in April), then Kuroko

would be the youngest of the Generation of Miracles (Kise would be the eldest).

Most characters call him Kuroko, which is his surname, sometimes with suffix -kun. There are few

exceptions: Kise (Kurokocchi), Murasakibara(Kuro-chin), Aomine (Tetsu), Momoi (Tetsu-kun)

and Akashi (Tetsuya).

Kuroko is a member of the school's Library Committee.[88]

According to the Character Bible, Kuroko's type of girl who is gentle. If Kuroko had an alternate job

it would be a kindergarden teacher. His favourite food is vanilla shake and he is quite skilled in

basic handicrafts. His motto is "Once-in-a-lifetime encounter ".[89]

Kuroko can use his Misdirection for entertainment, for example disappearing during a magic

trick.[90]

Kuroko's Student ID number is 102153.[91]

His bedhair has shocked a number of characters, often accompanied by a "Comb your hair!" from

one of his teammates. There have also been Super Saiyan  jokes about his bedhead.

Kuroko lives with his father, his mother and his grandmother.

the Generation of Miracles. He now plays with one of the Three Kings of Tokyo,Shūtoku High.

[show]

Appearance Edit

Midorima has short, dark green hair that doesn't reach his eyes. His hair is parted to the left. He wears

black-framed glasses that are framed on all sides except the top. He bandages his left hand outside of

matches, so that nothing can influence his left-hand shot. He also files his nails for the same reason. He

is often seen with a lucky item, that varies from a stuffed frog to a bear to a potted cactus. Out of games,

he wears his school uniform: a black jacket that is strapped all the way to his neck and black pants. He

plays with jersey number 6 at Shūtoku.

Personality Edit

Midorima with his lucky item

Midorima is usually very reserved. He feels no need for fooling around, although Takao tries to persuade

him many times (often ending up with him annoying Midorima). Acting kind to opponents is very hard for

him, while his friend Takao has no problem with that. Very confident in his ability, he often acts high and

mighty around others (mostly his team-mates). He strongly believes in zodiac-signs and horoscopes,

even carrying a so-called "lucky item" with him everywhere.[1][2] He is set at ease when he hears that his

zodiac sign, Cancer, will have a lucky day. Takao once commented on his preparation for matches,

ranging from filling his nails, taping his fingers, and listening his horoscope, to carrying his lucky item of

the day, as some sort of obsession.

Midorima seems unable to stand Kuroko, because he acknowledges Kuroko even though he doesn't have

any physicial capabilities and can't do anything on his own. He hates that Kuroko is not ambitious

Page 47: info about kuroko's basketball

enough and that he chose a new and relatively unknown team like Seirin. He thinks that Kuroko is stupid

to choose a school who cannot use his strength.[3]

Despite usually being calm, he snapped during Shūtoku's match againstSeirin High in the Winter Cup. He

told Takao to stop fooling around and had the intent of destroying Seirin completely. Takao compared

him to a dangerous wild beast.[4] During the same match, Midorima also let go of his pride and began

playing with his team. He never relied on others in the past, but now puts winning up front and plays as a

true team. In the successful teamplay, he was also seen enjoying the game and laughing, which he rarely

does.[5]

Takao often calls him a tsundere, because he always helps people but denies it. Midorima has good

insight and is able to understand other people's abilities easily, like Kagami or Kuroko's. He tends to give

them advice under the iguise of scorn and criticism. He helped Kagami with his aerial

understanding[6] and pushed Kuroko to play by himself, leading to the development of the Vanishing

Drive.

History Edit

Midorima joined the basketball team when he entered Teikō Junior High School and because of his

exceptional shooting accuracy and shooting range, eventually belonged to the regulars of the team.

Some time in those three years, when Akashi was made captain, Midorima served as vice-captain. They

held captain meetings, but would often just play shogi in the meantime. Akashi was and still is a shoji-

expert and Midorima could not win once against him, a line of thought Akashi would pull through to

basketball, but denied by Midorima.[7]

Story Edit

Introduction Edit

Midorima and Takao after practiceAt the same time Kuroko  joins

the Seirin basketball team, Midorima does the same at Shūtoku. Before the practicesstarted, Takao approaches him and introduces himself. Midorima is surprised that Takao knows him, butTakao explains that he's pretty much a celebrity in high school basketball. Takao then makes fun ofMidorima's lucky item and his way of speaking, which irritates Midorima. When Midorima stays behind forlate practice, Takao regularly joins him. Midorima notices that it seems like Takao is competing with himand he asks Takao about that. He replies that he once played against him and lost. He wanted to defeatMidorima, but when he saw they were at the same high school team, he changes his mind and was nowtrying to make Midorima recognize him.[8] Takao declares that he'll become better than Midorima andcalls him Shin-chan, annoying Midorima.

Seirin vs Kaijō Edit

Midorima reunites with KiseMidorima is first shown during the match of Seirin vs Kaijō. He is seen sitting in a small open trailer

behind a bicycle, which is ridden by Takao. They are riding towards Kaijō High to see the practice game

of his Midorima's former teammates.[9]

Because the bicycle was stuck in traffic, Midorima left Takao behind and went up ahead, to just make it in

time to see the final plays of the match. After Seirin's victory, Midorima approaches Kise. He tells him it

was an unpleasant match and spouts the saying "Man proposes, God disposes". Kise asks if he came to

see Kuroko as well, but Midorima responds that Kuroko is not even worth mentioning, because he joined

an unknown, barely created and weak school. Takao eventually catches up to Midorima and after saying

to Kise that he should give up on his revenge, Midorima leaves.[10]

Interhigh preliminaries Edit

At the first round, Seirin High was playing Shinkyō Academy. Midorima and Takao went to watch and

while Midorima says it was to check out the foreign exchange student, it was actually to see

Seirin.[11] Midorima and his team won through the first rounds of the Interhigh preliminaries.

Midorima with Takao and KurokoAt the fourth round, Shūtoku High had to play against Kinka High at the same gym where Seirin had just

played their game against Meijō Academy. Seirin won when Shūtoku High entered the court, led

by Ōtsubo. Kagamigoes to greet Midorima, but Midorima pretends to not know him. Kagami raises his

hand and Midorima thinks he intends to shake hands, but Kagami takes Midorima's hand and writes his

name on it with a marker, with the motivation to make him remember. Takao  joins the conversation and

tells Kagami and Kuroko the results of last year's Interhigh final league. Midorima says to Kagami that

they will surely lose again. Kuroko contradicts this and says that the match hasn't been played yet. There

is tension between Midorima and Kuroko. He leaves them by saying that they have to make it to the finals

first.[12]

The team starts warming up and Midorima asks Ōtsubo if he can play today. Ōtsubo is surprised because

Midorima previously said that his horoscope was bad. He allows it, but warns Midorima to not try that two

more times. In the match, he amazes everyone by shooting three pointer after three pointer. Shūtoku's

threat has now spread from the inside to the outside. In the audience, Kuroko tells his team that Midorima

never misses ad while he says that, Midorima sinks in another one.[13] While seeing

this, Hyūga speculates that Midorima is hiding something more crazy.

Final league Edit

Midorima watching Seirin vsTōō

Midorima told his team that he wouldn't go to the final league to watch, but went anyway, although under

a "disguise" (he just put on a pair of shades).

Kise found out he was there and recognized Midorima instantly. In his defense, Midorima told Kise that he

was just coincidentally there. He informs Kise that Aomine isn't playing yet, but that Seirin is still losing.

He also says that while Aomine isn't there, Momoi is the real danger.[14] Kise comments that she

had Kuroko as love interest in Junior High school and Midorima didn't know. He then says that it doesn't

matter if her team played against her love, she still wouldn't show any mercy.

Winter Cup preliminariesEdit

Midorima is seen sitting in the locker room, taping his fingers, when Takao comes in, telling him that the

second-years have already gathered to leave for the Winter Cup preliminaries. At that time, he gets a text

from Kise that says "Good luck". Irritated, he responds "Die".[15]

Midorima is shown to be training for the Winter Cup with Shūtoku High.[16]

The Generation meets

Midorima appears at the Winter Cup building when the Generation's captain,Akashi, called the

Generation together. As always, he carries a lucky item with him, this time a pair of scissors. Kise asks

him to put that away, saying it's dangerous. When Murasakibara is unable to open his pack of chips, he

asks for Midorima's scissors, but Midorima refuses. Akashi arrives and after dealing with Kagami, departsagain. He leaves the Generation with the words that they haven't forgotten their oath. Midorima is later

seen watching thematch between Seirin and Tōō.[17] When Kuroko unleashes his new pass, Midorima

analyzes this new skill and compares its spiral rotation to that of a gun.[18] He also analyzes Kagami's

tactical battle simulation later on in the match. He does the same thing with Kuroko's Vanishing Drive and

Misdirection Overflow. Midorima and Takao attend the major Seirin matches and win their own matches

as well.

Semi-finals Edit

Midorima's threes against RakuzanShūtoku High is set to play Rakuzan

High in the semi-finals of the Winter Cup. This markes the reunion of the GoM's captain and vice-captain.Before the match, Midorima is seen in the locker room with his lucky item, a shogi piece, a strange ironyof fate. When Miyaji asks what place his zodiac sign is, Midorima replies with 2nd. They then enter thegym and later line up on the court. Midorima says to Akashi that he will definitely not lose. Akashi repliesthat it's impossible since he never loses. The tip-off is given and Midorima gets the ball from Takao. Hesays to Akashi that will teach him defeat and scores a mid-court shot.[19]

During the first quarter, Midorima goes on by shooting normal three pointers. After the time-out for the

second quarter, Midorima asks Akashi if he can afford holding back. Akashi replies that he won't reveal

his trump card so easily and that it won't even be necessary to. After Midorima gets double-teamed, he

gets back on this when Hayama shows his true skills and reconfirms his earlier statement to Midorima.[20]

Midorima blocks HayamaLater, Mibuchi confronts Midorima about the

difference in skill between his teammates and Midorima's team. He states that everyone else is ahindrance. Midorima denies this, knowing how much the others have worked to get where they are. WhenHayama gets past Miyaji again, Midorima blocks him. He gets rid of his double team with the helpof Kimura’s screen and later lures outNebuya to send a pass towards Miyaji, who dunks it. Midorimastates that not a single member on his time is a hindrance.[21] He later ends the second quarter with athree pointer, bringing it to a 39 – 39 tie.

When going to the locker room, Midorima passes Kise. Kise compliments him on his not-too-bad

situation, but Midorima tells him that the real fight has yet to begin. The second half starts and Akashi is

guarding Midorima. They stand still for a few seconds, but then Midorima goes up fast and withouthesitation, battling with his height. Unfortunately, Akashi foresees this move and slaps the ball out of his

hands when it was still at the height of his chest.[22] Akashi goes for a fastbreak and scores.

Besides his shot, Midorima is also very fast and strong. He is smart during matches and is able to fake hisshot very fast and pass his opponent easily. He is also very proficient in defense, in his match againstKagami during the training camp, he surpressed him overwhelmingly.[23]

Shot Edit

Midorima's shot Midorima's half

court shot Midorima's full court shot

Midorima is mostly known for his incredible shot. He shoots the ball from any position on the court and the

ball flies with exceptionally high arc. A normal player would have less grasp on a shot if it's that high, but

Midorima always scores that way. Another thing that is incredible about his shot is the distance. He has

shown that he can score at the height of the middle line[24]and even on the whole other side of thecourt.[25] He has trained this for at least four years. He always shoots with his left hand. If he is not sure

he will score, he will not shoot. He even bandages his fingers in order to not let them affect his shot.

Because his shot is so high and it takes a lot of time for it to reach the basket, Midorima has plenty of time

to return in defense, covering fastbreaks and counters from the opponents.[26] According to Junpei Hyūga rather than the score the true horror of Midorima's shot is the deeppsychological impact to opponents. This especially true since most players would freeze on their spot aswatching the ball fly with abnormally long air time until it reach the hoop. So far, the only ones who haveever been able to block Midorima's shots, are Kagami[27] and Akashi.

Cooperation with Takao Edit

  Midorima's starting position

1 of 3

Midorima and Takao have recently developed a play that uses Midorima's shooting abilities and Takao'saccurate and fast passes. This technique consists of Midorima shooting without the ball and during theprocess of shooting receiving the ball in his hands, passed by Takao. If the pass goes through and theshot is untouched, this play is almost impossible to stop, especially with Midorima's shooting and Takao's

Page 53: info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 53/97

passing. This play is a huge gamble though, something Midorima had to overcome by trusting histeammates greatly.[28]

Takao and Midorima made this play to counter Akashi's Emperor Eye, since the height dif ference leads to

Akashi simply not being able to steal the ball because it is out of his reach. The technique is a

combination of Midorima's perfect shooting and Takao's perfect passing. However, as Midorima is left-

handed, the passes from Takao must come from the left side.

Relationships Edit

Seijūrō Akashi Edit

During the period of Akashi's captaincy, he would often play shogi with Midorima (who was vice-captain),

in which the latter never won any of the matches. Midorima shows much respect to Akashi, albeit

appearing somewhat grudgingly, even when he graduates from Teikō Junior High and enrolls in Shūtoku

High, where Akashi is no longer his captain. Before the Winter Cup, Midorima allows Akashi to borrow his

scissors (the day's lucky item) despite refusing Murasakibara earlier on.[29] During the Rakuzan vs

Shūtoku match, Akashi admits that he acknowledges Midorima's skills and in turn, Midorima is also fullyaware of Akashi's formidable skills, and acknowledges his strength, something which he rarely did for

others. After the match, Midorima offers a handshake to Akashi, though the latter refuses it, wishing to

remain as Midorima's enemy.[30] Midorima does not show any signs of anger but merely laments that

Akashi was still the same and insists that Shūtoku would emerge victorious the next time they battle

again. Midorima also appears to be competitive with Akashi, where he often asked Momoi for her class

notes and about the material and quality of her pencils, convinced that it had to do with her good grades

and wanting to improve to win Akashi.

Kazunari Takao Edit

  "There's not a single player on this team who's a hindrance."[21]

"This is a gamble. More than I need to believe in myself, I must believe in my teammates. Even if I

even drank the chilled one in summer. Midorima's type of girl is one who is older than him. His

motto is: "Man proposes, God disposes".[38]

Midorima's cameo in HoneyWorks's Music VideoAccording to the

Characters Bible, Midorima's first name was supposed to be Ryōhei instead of Shintarō.

Daiki Aomine (青峰 大輝  Aomine Daiki ) is one of theGeneration of Miracles and was the former

partner/light ofKuroko in Teikō. He now plays as the ace of Tōō Academy. He and Kagami are sworn

rivals after their clashes in theInterhigh preliminaries and in the Winter Cup. He was the main antagonist

until the first round of the Winter Cup.

Appearance Edit

Aomine's noticably brown skin is darker than most of the other characters. He has dark blue hair that is

quite short. His hair is parted on his left side. Aomine is very tall and muscular.

He wears the black and red Tōō High uniform with the number 5. His casual summer clothes consist of a

loose tank top and cargo pants. In winter, he is often seen with a light woolen shirt, a black hoodie and a

dark bodywarmer.[1]

Personality Edit

Before he gained immeasurable strength, Aomine was out-going and even friendly. He often fooledaround with Kuroko orKise. Momoi stated that the old Aomine was so alike withKagami. He loved playing

basketball and was very good at it too. But he kept training and he kept getting stronger, to the point that

he totally crushed his opponents' will to play basketball. He was initially sad about this, and searched for a

decent match, but never found one.[2] Eventually, he came to conclusion that he is simply the strongest

and that "the only one who can win against him, is himself". He also cast his feelings towards his

opponents aside and now views them as weak and wants to crush them. He seeks to humiliate them in

the worst kind of fashion. He has also become very lazy, only coming to training when he wants to, and

slacking off even during matches.

Aomine also has a short temper and some kind of admiration towards Kuroko, as he threatened

a Tōō player with physical violence when he spoke badly about Kuroko. Haizaki Shōgo stole food fromKuroko and Aomine told him to get his own food.[3] Another trait he shows, is that he is a big fan of

Japanese idols. He is interested in that field of entertainment and knows a lot of idols and keep them

apart well. He has said he likes models with big boobs.[4]

Young Aomine

When Aomine was still li ttle, he started playing basketball on the streets, before he was taught anything. It

was seen that he played with Momoi, revealing how they were childhood friends. As he was growing up,

he began playing against streetballers. This was the developement of his ever-changing flexible

streetball.[5]

Aomine and Kuroko at Teikō

Aomine attended Junior High school inTeikō for three years. He joined the basketball club and was

classified in the first string. When Aomine was one day staying late for extra practice, he went to another

gym because the regular gym was full of other players. He was warned by Momoi (who was the team's

manager at the time) that the gym was haunted by a ghost, but Aomine didn't believe it. He entered and

heard basketball sounds, but couldn't see anyone playing.Kuroko then introduced himself, scaring

Aomine. They talk and Aomine complements Kuroko that staying so late for practice proves his love for

basketball. Kuroko and Aomine start practicing together and become good friends. Aomine also

persuaded Kuroko to keep playing basketball when he wanted to quit.[6]

When Kuroko eventually joined the regulars of Teikō, Aomine and Kuroko were perfectly adaptable.

Kuroko's misdirection and invisible passes connected with Aomine's strength and the two brought out the

best in each other.[7]

Aomine awakened

In his second year in Junior High school, Aomine inspired Kise to play basketball and he became his

training partner. Kise was still a complete rookie, apart from his copying ability, and Aomine was obviously

stronger than him, but Aomine kept training with Kise, just because he loves basketball.[8] He taught Kise

a lot and became his mentor/idol. During that time, Aomine also became the ace of the team.

Aomine drifts away from Kuroko

All the members of the Generation of Miracles didn't start of as strong as they are now, but Aomine was

the first to progress quickly above the rest. He suddenly became a totally different, scary strong person.

He took Teikō's victories to a whole other level, crushing their opponents with three to five times the

points, even reaching 200 points. Aomine's share in the points was overwhelming. He stood out above

the rest too much and skipped practice more often. When Kuroko confronted him about that, he told him

that the game has become boring for him. Midorima clarified that Aomine needed a strong rival, but never

found one. Aomine also became too strong in comparison to his teammates, too strong for his own good.

Aomine started to do just the minimum to make the team win.[9] Kuroko tried to convince him otherwise

and that his rival would surely come and Aomine believed that for a while, but his power grew even more

and seeing his mentally crushed opponents, changed his mind. He told Kuroko that he respects his

thought of a rival, but that his rival would never come. Aomine came to think that no one could match him.

This is when his present arrogance originated.

Story Edit

Interhigh preliminaries Edit Aomine's team, Tōō Academy won the entire preliminaries to the finals without any trouble.

Finals Edit

The third member of the Generation of Miracles makes his debut

During the finals in Block A in the Interhigh preliminaries, Seirin vs Shūtoku, Aomine is seen for the firsttime. Momoi runs in on him at the gym, where he is slacking off while the rest is having the preliminaries

finals. Momoi informs him on the match between Midorima and Kuroko, with Momoi betting on Kuroko.

Aomine hesitates but says that it could be both of them.[10]

After the match, Momoi calls Midorima on the cell phone but Aomine takes it from her. Talking to Aomine,

Midorima warns him of Seirin in the final league. Aomine responds that that's ridiculous and concludes

that the only one who can beat him, is himself.[11]

Final league Edit

"Your light is dim"

After asking Momoi where Kagami is, he finds him practicing at a street ball court. Aomine challenges

Kagami and Kagami rudely asks him who he is. Aomine gives him his name and Kagami realizes he's

one of the Generation of Miracles. Aomine swats away Kagami's further questions and urges him to take

him on, in order to entertain him for a bit. Aomine belittles Kagami and his arrogance annoys him. Aomine

totally overpowers Kagami and tells him his partnership with Kuroko will fail because Kagami's "light is too

dim", before dashing past him and finishing the one-on-one.[12] He meets up with Momoi afterwards, to

which he tells that Kagami is disappointing.

Aomine kicks Wakamatsu

The team is just on lunch break when Aomine returns to the gym. He takes pieces of Sakurai's bento

without asking and pulls a lame excuse when he is asked where he was. He gets irritated when a

teammate complains about his absence and quickly departs after picking up his idol magazine.

Suddenly, Wakamatsu stops him and grabs him by his collar in anger and shouts that he should go to

practice. Aomine says that he's not very energetic and that he'll let Wakamatsu off the hook, though hedoes violently kick him in the stomach shortly after. Then, Aomine picks up a stray basketball and mocks

practice, saying that he doesn't need it if he performs well in matches. He dunks with ferocious power and

breaks the basket. He leaves, after stating that they can bug him about practice when they're better than

him.[13] Imayoshi later comments than Aomine is forgiven these acts because he is simply a sport-

changing player.

A few days after, the Interhigh preliminaries final league's first day has arrived. The first match

being Seirin vs Tōō, both teams arrived at the gym already, only Aomine is missing. Momoi calls him on

his cell and Aomine is revealed to still be at school, having overslept. Imayoshi then talks to Aomine,

telling him to get there as fast as possible. Aomine cuts him off by saying that Seirin's not that big a deal

and that it'll be fine.[14]

Winter Cup Edit

Aomine appears during the Winter Cup when Akashi has summoned the Generation to meet them. He is

seen spinning a basketball on his fingers when Kuroko arrives.[15] He notices that Kuroko has

brought Furihata with him and makes fun of Kuroko. Murasakibara says that Aomine also

brought Satsuki, after which Aomine tells him to shut up. Kuroko greets them all and Aomine says

to Kise to put his cellphone away, as the constant ringing irritates Aomine. Kise tells him he keeps getting

messages from his fan girls and Aomine says for him to go die. Akashi arrives and greets them. After

threatening Kagami with Midorima's scissors, he turns to leave, angering Aomine, who then asks Akashi

what the point in gathering them was if they did not confer about anything.[16] Akashi replies that he just

wanted to check that they didn't forget their oath, which they apparently didn't.

Round 1 Edit

Seirin vs Tōō

Aomine is later seen walking with Tōō Academy onto the Winter Cup court, to prepare for

their match against Seirin High. Aomine is announced as the "Genius scorer of the Generation of

Miracles".[17] Both teams enter the court and Kagami approaches Aomine and Aomine notices that

Kagami got a little better. Kagami admits and Aomine encounters Kuroko. Kuroko declares that Seirin will

not lose a second time and Aomine agrees to settle it this time for sure. Seirin and Tōō line up and wish

each other a clean match.

Kuroko's pass flies past Aomine

The match starts and Seirin gains possession of the ball. They drive it up court but Tōō's pressure

defense stops them. Sakurai steals the ball, dribbles to the other side of the court and pulls up for a three-

pointer. But instead of shooting, he passes the ball in front of the basket and Aomine dunks a fierce alley-

oop. Meanwhile, Kagami has just arrived and Aomine taunts him. When Kuroko prepares for his Ignite

Pass Kai, Aomine recognizes his normal Ignite Pass, but Kuroko says it's a new form of that

pass.[18] Kuroko doesn't use his misdirection, which surprises Aomine. He reaches out his hand,

preparing to catch the pass, but Kuroko's Ignite Pass Kai repels Aomine's hand. It flies past Aomine,

reaches Kiyoshi and Kagami scores an alley oop. He says to Kuroko that it seems that he got a bit more

interesting. Kuroko replies that if not, it'd be disappointing.

Kagami vs Aomine

The match goes on and Tōō overwhelms Seirin. The ball ends up with Kagami and he decides to go up

against Aomine. Kagami runs a simulation of their battle in his head with a high-level tactical battle and

eventually passes to Izuki, concluding that he would lose if he went against Aomine now. During the

simulation, Kagami and Aomine just stood towards each other for a few seconds. When the ball goes out

of bounds, Aomine laughs and understands that Kagami made the right decision and that the old him

would have plunged right in.[19] He gets that Kagami has evolved much and that his tactical battle was

just the tip of the iceberg.

The first quarter ends in a tie with Hyūga and Sakurai's shoot-out. During the pause, Momoi reveals to her

team the secret to the Vanishing Drive. They agree that they have to keep Kagami and Kuroko apart, but

Aomine declines. He says that they should just let Kuroko do the Vanishing Drive, that Aomine willdefinitely stop him. Aomine sneers, saying he is better than Kuroko. Kuroko immediately faces off against

Aomine when the match starts again and Aomine says to Kuroko that they really do have a great mutual

understanding of basketball. Kuroko agrees and he and Kagami proceed to do the Vanishing Drive. It

seems for an instant that Kuroko broke through, but Aomine turns and stops Kuroko.[20] He was closing

his eyes, only relying on his sense of basketball and Kuroko's breath to follow him. He says that their

Page 62: info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 62/97

mutual sense of basketball is too bad and he steals Kuroko's ball. He drives to the basket and dunks the

ball. He then turns to Kuroko and threatens him that he can't beat him and that his effort was futile.

Aomine stops Kuroko's special move

Kuroko gets the ball on the offense and pulls up for an Ignite Pass Kai, in an act of despair. He thrust the

ball with all his might, but the ball gets stopped by Aomine. He is standing in the middle of the court and

says to Kuroko that the same move won't work on him a second time. He continues by saying that hiseffort to defeat him was futile and that he should give up. He passes Izuki and encounters Kagami by the

basket. Aomine does his formless shot, with his body almost parallel to the floor, throws the ball besides

Kagami, it grazes the top of the board and falls into the ring.[21] Seirin then calls for a time-out.

Round 2 Edit

Aomine conveys his basketball passion to KurokoAfter their match in

the first round of theWinter Cup, Kuroko calls Aomine out again the night after the match. Aomine askswhy he called all of a sudden, but Kuroko asks if Momoi isn't with him. Aomine replies that he ditched her.Kuroko then cuts to the chase and asks Aomine head-on to teach him how to shoot. They move to anearby basketball court and Kuroko shows Aomine his shot and asks if it's any good. Aomine lashes outthat he has no clue and gets mad about Kuroko just dragging him in. He sits down and says that he hasn'tbeen able to sleep since that match. He explains that the taste of defeat is bitter, but that he is stillshaking from excitement. He says that his passion has somehow revived. He agrees to helping Kurokoout.[22]

Quarter-finals Edit

Some time before the quarter-finals of the Winter Cup, Yōsen vs Seirin, Aomine completes his training

with Kuroko. Kuroko has then scored 7 out of 10 shots, which Aomine finds sufficient. Momoi suddenly

clings to Kuroko and is surprised about how fast he learned to shoot. Aomine says that he himself didn't

do much and explains how the side-effect of his passing speciality refrained him for shooting properly. He

adds that by negating that side-effect, he'd be able to shoot just fine. He thinks by himself how it's odd

that Akashi, who taught Kuroko his playing style, didn't notice this flaw. He is suspicious of Akashi.

Kuroko then sincerely thanks Aomine, but Aomine says that it's not needed, that he just couldn't stand

Page 63: info about kuroko's basketball

seeing Kuroko suck so much. He then warns him about Murasakibara, he hesitates to tell Kuroko that it's

really him who's grateful. He eventually doesn't say that and takes off, but not without saying that they

next time they will meet, it will be as enemies...[23]

Semi-finals Edit

Aomine greets KagamiAfter the quarter-finals, Kagami's shoes are totally

wrecked. Therefor, Kurokocalls Momoi for help and the three meet up at a close basketball court. However, Kagami is surprised to see that Aomine came along as well and asks why he's even here.

Aomine answers with irritation. Momoi then says that since Aomine and Kagami have the same shoesize, Aomine said that he'll give Kagami a pair. Aomine denies, but after Kagami sees the shoes inquestion, Aomine decides that he'll get the shoes if Kagami is able to defeat Aomine in a one-on-one. Headds that he'll give him a small lecture while they're playing... In the end, Kagami loses, but Aominedecides to give him the shoes anyway. He says that he doesn't want to see a crappy match just becauseKagami doesn't have proper shoes. Kagami reluctantly accepts.[24]

Aomine and Momoi are absent from the first semi-finals, Rakuzan vs Shūtoku and a large part of the

second, Kaijō vs Seirin. The pair is seen in a café, when Aomine asks Momoi if she believes in fate.

Momoi is startled and Aomine explains that it's hardly a coincidence that something like the "Generation

of Miracles" happened and that they are now facing each other as enemies in a tournament like

the Winter Cup and what's more, that Kagami has appeared. He calls Kagami "the miracles who did not

become one of the miracles" and that he also partnered up with his fated shadow, Kuroko...[25] At thesame time, Kagami manages to overcome Kise in a one-on-one in the actual match.

Aomine and Momoi go to watch the semi-finalsAomine and Momoi

later do enter the gym to watch the last 5 minutes of the match. Aomine is shoved in by Momoi and hesays to her that they've come at the right time, as both Kuroko and Kise are about to enter the field for thelast showdown. He is then occasionally seen shocked by Kise's vast improvement or commenting oncertain plays.[26]

Aomine's speed and ball handlingAomine blocks Kagami from dunking

Aomine is quite literally "a monster" in basketball, as he is leagues ahead of anyone that comes second to

him, even among the Generation of Miracles. His abilities can be described as extremely fast, extremely

strong and extremely skillful. It is shown that Aomine can essentially score the basketball from any

position on the court. He is very fast, agile, and powerful which enables him to get past even the strongest

of defensive minded players. He accomplishes this by performing insane crossovers, changing his speed

and direction of movement at an absurd rate, leaving his oppenent behind. On top of that he is also very

strong as he can dunk against other centers with relative ease also allowing him to rebound nearly every

missed shot. Overall, these well rounded and polished skills make him an amazing player who is often

described as "a monster".

As explained by Midorima, Aomine learned to play basketball on the streets without lessons, so while notpossessing the basic movements of basketball's play, it is said that Aomine never has a non-changingmovement, be it passing, dribbling or shooting. His play is described as limitless.[27] It's extremely difficultto guard him as only a hand-full of players could keep up with him. Kuroko and Kise are shown tocapability of stopping Aomine predicting his movements based off their past experiences as teammates.

Agility Edit

Page 65: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 65/97

Aomine is not just extremely fast but his acceleration and deceleration is extremely fast too. As seen in

the match against Seirin High he broke free from Kagami with his speed than stopped in front of the

defense and shot with a fadeaway in an instant.

As stated by Midorima, Aomine transcends even the rest of the Generation of Miracles when it comes to

agility.[28]

Flexible streetball Edit

Aomine's streetballAomine has the ability to an array of different

movements based on his street ball background. He uses many feints, unnecessary movements anddoesn't play a standard form of basketball.[29] With this style of play, he can score many creative basketsfrom the oddest of places on the court, like from behind the backboard among other places.[30] Putting

this all together, Aomine is very unpredictable and can easily crossover and get past Kagami. Kagamicompares his style of play to the way they play basketball in the States.

Formless shot Edit

1 of 4

Add photo

Apart from his ball handling and speed, Aomine can get a shot off from essentially any position on the

court. One of his signature shots, the formless shot is where Aomine lowers his posture to bypass thedefense, as he shoots when his body is nearly parallel to the ground.[31][32] It was deemed impossible by

many to block such a shot, but an awoken Kagami was able to stop it.[33]

As stated by Midorima it's not his agility or unpredictability that made Aomine the super scorer even

among Generation of Miracles, but his ability to score in virtually any position and angle, even from the

behind the board.

Page 66: info about kuroko's basketball

Zone Edit

Aomine in the Zone

Zone is a state of being that Aomine can access once he has found a worthy opponent and reached hisfull potential. Under this influence, he is "in the zone", which means that nobody else can stop him unless

he or she is in the Zone as well. When a person is in the Zone, some sort of sparks or currents of

electricity seem to gather in the player's eyes, indicating that the individual has entered the Zone and

gained his full potential as a basketball player.[34]

When entering the Zone, one forgets everything and focuses solely on the game. It is a superlative of

regular concentration. Only the elite of the best of the best of players are allowed to enter the Zone, and

Aomine seemed to have forced his way in. Opening the gate to the Zone means opening the gate to your

full potential, the full 100% of one's capabilities and abilities. In Aomine's case, his speed doubles at the

least, his power increases drastically. His ability to score from anywhere escalates and Aomine's skills

become even more overwhelming.[35]

Because of Aomine's past, he hadn't been this much pressured than in the match against Seirin High,

more specifically, Kagami. He started to enjoy playing against his first real opponent in some time and this

feeling of enjoyment and excitement opened the gates of the Zone for him.[36]

Relationships Edit

Satsuki Momoi Edit

Young Aomine with SatsukiAomine and Momoi have had a

purely platonic friendship since childhood since they live close together. As children they often playedbasketball together.[37] Up until Junior High school, they were very close and were on first name basis(him calling her "Satsuki" and her calling him "Dai-chan"). To his discomfort, Momoi started to call him

Page 67: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 67/97

"Aomine-kun" instead, otherwise "people are gonna talk". Aomine himself said it felt gross that she calledhim "Aomine-kun". Their relationship grew apart slightly but they continued to go home together everyday.

Their friendship was tested when Aomine started to get bored with basketball and his attitude started to

cause trouble. Momoi stuck with him through thick and thin and also decided to attend Tōō High with him

because she was afraid he would do something if she wasn't there to keep and eye on him. In theCharacter Bible, Aomine says that he wants to sleep in on his days off, but Momoi forces him to wake up

and take her somewhere. It is shown that he does care about her but he lets his temper run away from

him; when they had an argument about Momoi telling their coach to pull him off the team for injuries, he

lost it and said that he didn't want to see her "or her ugly face" anymore.[38] Momoi burst in to tears, flung

a clipboard at his face, and ran off, calling his face grotesque. Aomine's reaction implied that he hadn't

meant to make her cry and regretted it.

Satsuki and Dai-chan attendSeirins quarter-finalsAfter Aomine was

defeated by Kagami, he regained his love for basketball and asked Momoi to go shopping with him thenext day so that he could buy some training gear. She smiles at this and starts to call him "Dai-chan"again, and adds that she will only do that if he buys her dinner.[39] Since then, the two have been showntogether more often, implying that their friendship had been fully restored. Aomine was neither supportivenor against Momoi's crush on Kuroko, as shown by both the Replace novels and an omake in whichKuroko and Momoi went on a date. He was dragged by Kise to go spy on them and he was the one whoworked behind the scenes to get rid of possible interlopers who wanted to hit on Momoi.[40] He was evenseen estimating Momoi's cup size (he guessed that she was E-cup at that time) after she made herappearance. After the date Momoi ran to his house to show off the stuffed toy Kuroko had given her as apresent and he only responded with a "Yeah, yeah, congratulations." It was implied that Aomine alreadyknows that Kuroko does not return her feelings but keeps quiet as not to upset Momoi.

Tetsuya Kuroko Edit

“  When it comes to basketball, we do think alike.

” —Tetsuya Kuroko, to Daiki Aomine

Kuroko and Aomine at Teikō

Aomine was Kuroko's best friend and "light" back at Teikō Junior High School. Aomine was starter at first,

when Kuroko was still third stringer. That didn't matter to Aomine, because he saw the same amount of

basketball passion in Kuroko that he has. They practiced together after training and quickly became

friends to the point where Aomine calls Kuroko Tetsu. When Kuroko was promoted to playing with the

starters, his play was very in sync with Aomine.

The Kuroko-Aomine relationship that pretty much mimes the

Kuroko-Kagami relationship

Aomine once stated that the two have very little in common but that basketball is what brings their

friendship together. Midorima once said their way of play is so compatible to the point of annoyance.

Outside of the court they would hangout and grab ice cream together after practices or games.

Aomine as the two now were pretty evenly matched. Unexpectedly, Kuroko comes back into the match

and uses his Misdirection Overflow helping Seirin score a few points. Eventually Kuroko aslo forces

Aomine to miss a basket. At the peak of his excitement and gratitude toward Kuroko, Aomine go into "The

Zone", the pinancle state of concentration that only few chosen athlete can achieve takes control of the

match. Kagami then follows suit and enters "Zone" as well and during the last seconds, as he and Aomine

are stuck in a stalemate until Kagami finally gains the upper hand and eventually win against Aomine. He

and Kuroko bump fists once again and promise to compete again. Because of the tough match, Aomine

regained his passion and enjoyment and resees Kuroko as his friend. Aomine even agreed to help

Kuroko develop his Phantom Shot.

Ryōta Kise Edit

Aomine is the one who inspires Kise to play basketball- having a unique style which Kise couldn't help but

admire. He is persistent in his requests to play one-on-one with Aomine back in Teikō Junior High,

despite the fact that he was always losing to Aomine. It is later revealed that, during their match together,

Kise expresses a subconscious wish where even though he himself wants to win, he doesn't want

Aomine to lose- therefore giving him a drawback and not able to copy Aomine. He later manages to

overcome his admiration and copy Aomine's style, but eventually loses the match. Aomine was shown to

be livid when Kise looked at him with pity (because he had earned a lot of dangerous fouls), and finishes

the match by saying that the only one who can defeat him is himself.

Tōō's captain Imayoshi commented that Aomine didn't go full-force during the match with Kise because

he still have a soft spot for his ex-teammate, thus implying that Aomine still cares for Kise. In their Teikō

flashbacks, Aomine was shown to be often annoyed by Kise's antics like the other teammates. Aomine

punched Haizaki to protect Kise after when he realizes that Haizaki intended to revenge his loss against

Kise- not thinking of the consequences and claiming that Haizaki had no right to interfere with the Kaijō

and Seirin's match. Kise, during their highschool time, admires Aomine like an idol and sets him as a

rolemodel, but having broken free from that mindset- he managed to attain perfect copy and copy

Aomine's style.

Appearance Edit

Atushi with his hair pulled backwards.Murasakibara is abnormally tall for

someone of his age, even taller than Papa Mbaye Siki. He is the tallest player seen in the entire series. He has shoulder length, purple hair that touches his back. During the match against Seirin High School,he is seen with his hair pulled back into a ponytail during the fourth quarter. He has been seen wearing awhite "Tonicwater" t-shirt and a working-overall.

Personality Edit

Murasakibara's real self as an offensive player According to his height,

Murasakibara acts very lumpish. He fools around at serious times, which is not always well received. He

Page 73: info about kuroko's basketball

is mildly sadistic and childish. The only reason he plays basketball, is because he's good at it, he doesn'tcare for the sport at all. He always told others that he dislikes, feels bored and even hates, players whoplay basketball with passion, even when they are losing. However, it is hinted that he actually likesbasketball from the bottom of his heart due to his activation of Zone.[1]He is sort of sweet tooth when he isseen eating sugar-related foods.

According to Kuroko, Murasakibara isn't the calm type, he was actually the opposite within the GoM. He

was the one who like to attack, but since basketball bored him, half way Junior High school he stop

attacking and has kept himself in the defense. His actual speciality is offense and when he gets angry in

games, he returns to his past self.[2]

Story Edit

Interhigh Edit

Murasakibara is first seen after Kaijō and Tōō match in the Interhigh. He is walking in the hallways, eating

his usual candy and is noticed by Kagami, who is amazed by his enormous height. He is called by his

teammates and it is revealed that he was lost. He walks past Kuroko, who is bent over tying his shoelace

and when Kuroko hears Murasakibara's name, Murasakibara disappears behind a corner, Kuroko was

unable to greet him.[3]

Pre-Winter Cup Edit

Murasakibara meets with Kuroko after a long timeMurasakibara went

along with his teammate Himuro to the Street Basketball 5 on 5, even though their school Yōsen High doesn't let student participate in out of school activities. He got lost and wandered around theterrain, being noticed by Seiho High.[4] He finds Himuro about to play against the Seirin High freshmenand interrupts the match by throwing his candy bar on the flying ball at the tip-off.[5] He reuniteswith Kuroko for the first time since Junior High school and jokes around by first threatening him, but thenpatting his head, which annoys Kuroko.

As some other players asks Murasakibara about the Interhigh, he responds that he didn't play

because Akashi said so. When the referee asked Murasakibara to clear the court, he remembers that he

came to stop Himuro from playing. As they are about to leave, Kagami stops them and challenges

Murasakibara to play. Murasakibara declines and makes fun of Kagami's eyebrows. Kagami then tries to

pursue him by saying that he's too scared to play, which annoys Murasakibara and he agrees to play.

Himuro and him join an unknown team in order to play against Seirin.[6]

Meeting of the GoMMurasakibara appears at the Winter

Cup when Akashi called the Generation of Miracles for a meet-up. When Kuroko arrivesand Aomine makes a comment on him bringing Furihata along, Murasakibara notices that Aomine hasbroughtMomoi as well.[7] As always, Murasakibara is eating something sweet, this time a chocolate bar. When he finishes, he tries to open a bag of chips, fails and asks Midorima for his scissors, but Midorimarefuses. Akashi finally arrives and after dealing with Kagami, takes his leave. Akashi then says that itseems that the Generation has not yet forgotten the oath they made.

Round 1 Edit He is later seen watching the match between Seirin and Tōō.[8]

Round 2 Edit

Round 3 Edit

Quarter-finals Edit

Murasakibara blocks Kagami's open shotIn the quarter-finals,

Murasakibara and Yōsen face Seirin. Murasakibara easily outjumps Kagami during the tip off and givesYōsen possession; however this is overruled by the referee as he jumped before the ball had reached itsmaximum height. Possession is then awarded to Seirin, who begin a series of quick passes on Yōsen'sperimeter. Hyūga then attempts a jump shot, but Murasakibara shows off his fast reflexes by blocking

Hyūga's shot. Seirin get the offensive rebound and use Kuroko to change the trajectory of the passes, freeing Kagami for the open jump shot inside the three point arc. However, Murasakibara blocks himand Masako notes that he is not only big and fast, but he also has a huge wingspan. She says that theentire area inside of the three point arc is "his domain".[9]

Yōsen scores their first points, but after the inbounds pass, Kuroko throws a full court pass to Izuki who

runs up the court, but is confronted by Murasakibara, who is not participating in the offense. Masako says

that although she doesn't like players who don't run up and down the court, the Yōsen defense is

Page 75: info about kuroko's basketball

complete with Murasakibara himself. Murasakibara grabs the rebound from Hyūga's missed shot over

Kagami and Kiyoshi, and passes the ball ahead.[10]

Murasakibara is unable to block KurokoAs the second quarter begins,

Kiyoshi attempts to lose Murasakibara using a spin move, but Murasakibara scorns Kiyoshi for believingthat he could pass him with such a skill and blocks him. Kiyoshi then reveals that he had a different plan

all along and throws an alley-oop to Kagami who attempts to dunk, but is blocked again by Murasakibaraas his height and wingspan helped him block Kiyoshi's first attempt without jumping, thus enabling him toblock Kagami. However Kagami manages to throw the ball out to Kuroko, leaving Murasakibara shockedas he thought Kuroko couldn't shoot. He then moves to block Kuroko, but is amazed as Kuroko'sPhantom Shot disappears and falls into the hoop, giving Seirin its first points of the match.[11] He thentells Kuroko that he is surprised that it was Kuroko who scored the first basket for Seirin.

In a subsequent play, the last of the second quarter, Kuroko manages to score another basket past

Murasakibara with the Phantom Shot, and the score stands at 29 – 17 with Yosen up. In the locker room,

Masako notes that Kuroko will likely be benched when the match resumes. Riko and Masako then come

to the conclusion that the most important matchups in the thrid quarters will be between Kiyoshi and

Murasakibara and Kagami and Himuro. Murasakibara resolves to "erase" Kiyoshi.[12]

Murasakibara vs KiyoshiConfronting Kiyoshi in the third quarter,

Murasakibara tells him that he won't be able to do a thing against him, to which Kiyoshi replies that hewon't know that unless he tries. On the next possession, Kiyoshi gets the ball and faces Murasakibarawho says that he'll crush Kiyoshi just as he did in Junior High school. He then asks Kiyoshi why he'strying to beat him when he knows he will fail, to which Kiyoshi replies that striving to be the number oneteam in theNationals is fun. He then asks Murasakibara if he finds basketball fun, irking him. He thengoes for a double clutch layup but is blocked by Murasakibara. Izuki gets the rebound and passes it backto Kiyoshi who has retreated beyond the three point arc. Kiyoshi then knocks down the three toMurasakibara's surprise, but he quickly recovers, deeming the basket a fluke.[13]

On the next possession, Kiyoshi, playing point guard, drives past Fukui and positions himself for a jump

shot. Murasakibara moves out to block him but Kiyoshi quickly passes to Izuki who drives toward to hoop.

Murasakibara andRyū are there to block him, but Kiyoshi notes that Izuki's Eagle Eye has evolved

enough to enable him to make a play. In the stands, Aomine notes that Seirin will break Yosen's defense

on this possession as Murasakibara takes time to land after a block attempt, thus allowing Seirin to pass

the ball and make a play during that short interval. As predicted, Izuki throws an alley-oop to Kiyoshi, who

dunks the ball over Murasakibara, Okamura and Ryū.[14] Much to Murasakibara's rage, Seirin is able to

repeat the play in their next possession, with Kiyoshi drawing him out by faking a jump shot and then

passing to Izuki, who finds the open Hyūga for a successful three point attempt. Kagami is then put back into the game, and after blocking Himuro, rushes towards Murasakibara on the

fast break. Although his dunk attempt is blocked, Murasakibara realizes that he was attempting a shot

that went wrong. In a subsequent Seirin possession, Kiyoshi manages to outjump Murasakibara and

successfully dunk on him, after Izuki missed a three pointer. After this, a play by Kiyoshi enables Kagami

to dunk on Murasakibara.[15]

Murasakibara's 360 dunk This move finally enrages Murasakibara and he

resolves to "wring the pride" out of Seirin. He decides to participate in the Yōsen offense. Thecoach, Arakistated that she never expect this to happen and thanks Seirin for initiate Murasakibara, whoshe called "the beast". The benched Kuroko said that Murasakibara scored 100 points once in a single

game when he went serious. He posts up Kiyoshi, but Hyūga and Izuki soon join in, Hyūga stating thattheir main objective is to stop Murasakibara. Kiyoshi tells him that he never intended to beat him alone tobegin with, but Murasakibara doesn't even acknowledge the triple team. He pushes all three back, andwhen he gets the ball, he jumps into the air, his back facing the basket and performs a 360 dunk, calledthe Tornado Dunk, knocking Kiyoshi, Hyūga and Izuki to the ground. Seirin then attempt a fast break tocatch Murasakibara out of position, but are shocked to learn that he fast over both long and shortdistances as he outruns Izuki and prepares to face Seirin. Kiyoshi attempts a layup but then converts itinto a pass to avoid Murasakibara's block. However Murasakibara swats the pass away with his left handand dunks on the Yōsen possession so powerfully that he brings down the hoop, leaving a shocked Seirinwondering how they could "stop this beast".[16]

Murasakibara looks down upon KiyoshiMurasakibara then proceeds to

block Kiyoshi again and mock Seirin, saying that he didn't even need to get serious if this was all of thechallenge that Seirin posed. Kiyoshi then attempts to catch a rebound using Vice Claw, but Murasakibararebuffs him and shocks the spectators when he uses a Vice Claw of his own. He then takes the ball coastto coast and dunks on Kagami and Kiyoshi, sending them sprawling to the ground. Kiyoshi, havingreached his limit, is unable to get up, but Murasakibara "helps" him up. He tells him that like before, he

Page 78: info about kuroko's basketball

was unable to defend anything and states that with him gone from the Junior High, Seirin would lose. Hethen asks him whether he still felt basketball was fun after all this. As Kiyoshi exits the game, he tellsKuroko to win and Kuroko tells Murasakibara that he will beat Yōsen for Kiyoshi. Murasakibara doesn'ttake him seriously, but Kuroko then says that he will not lose someone who looks down upon the effortsof others prompting Murasakibara to shout that Kuroko's ideals made him sick.[17]

Kuroko then passes Ryū and goes for the Phantom Shot, but Murasakibara, after being warned

by Himuro, blocks the basket so that Kuroko can't see it properly. Kuroko then throws a high alley oop to

Kagami who dunks the ball through. An angry Murasakibara prepares to post up, but is shocked to see

that he is being guarded by Kuroko. After this Murasakibara turns around to dunk the ball, but is

bewildered by Kuroko's lack of presence. He sends Kuroko sprawling and is called for the offensive foul.

Murasakibara then says that Kuroko has really annoyed him.[18]

After Kagami asks Riko whether Seirin can replicate Yōsen's formation, with him defending the paint

area, Murasakibara dunks on him twice. After being rebuked by Kise, Kagami manages to enter the zone.

He then blocks both a normal dunk and Murasakibara's special Tornado Dunk (Thor's Hammer), even

pushing him to the ground, leaving him shocked.[19]

Semi-finals Edit

Himuro and Murasakibara arrive at the Winter CupThe first semi-finals

of the day was Shūtoku High vs Rakuzan High, to which Murasakibara and Himuro go to watch. Theyarrive in the building as the match is about to start and it appears that Murasakibara reluctantly wentalong with Himuro. Himuro asks Murasakibara's opinion on the match and he simply replies that he can'timagine Akashi losing.[20] He is later impressed aboutMidorima's improvement.[21] During half-time,Murasakibara tells Himuro that Akashi's power is one "that negates everything". As the match restartsand Akashi steals Midorima's ball, Murasakibara explains the system of Akashi's eyes, how they candetect his opponent's movements and use it against them.[22] As the match ends, Murasakibara says thata 16-point difference is around what he expected.[23]

The next semi-finals, Kaijō High vs Seirin High commences and Murasakibara and Himuro stay to watch.

As Kise goes full-power from the get-go, they witness his "invincible" Perfect Copy.[24]

Defense Edit

Murasakibara blocks HyūgaMurasakibara mostly relies on his height to

get rebounds, block shots or dunk. Because he doesn't like basketball, he prefers staying on defense, buteven then he doesn't feel like blocking if he doesn't want to.[25] At important matches like in the WinterCup, he is forced to do his best and his skill is truly shown. There, it is seen that especiallyMurasakibara's arms are long. He has seen blocking shots from Hyūga and Kagami when the ball isunderway, so much higher than the take-off.[26] He can also tower above all the team's centers and catchthe rebound easily.[27] According to Aomine, Murasakibara is strong, that even the ace of the Generationof Miracles has difficulty to pass him.[28]

Offense Edit

Murasakibara's devastating forceNot only block and rebounds, but he

also bursts his way through in offensive dunks. His force is enough to withstand three people and stilldunk. He has also been seen dunking backwards, not having enough time to turn around. At the peak ofhis power, he was able to bring the basket down.[29]

When Murasakibara was attacking, it was also seen that in contrary to popular belief, he can indeed run

pretty fast, both short and long distances.[30]

Thor's Hammer Edit

Page 80: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 80/97

Thor's Hammer Murasakibara has a signature dunk called the Thor's

Hammer . This is basically a two handed, rotating dunk. Murasakibara posts up under the basket, receivesthe ball, jumps and rotates while in the air. He turns to the goal and, still two-handed, ferociously dunksit.[31] Because of the sheer force that Murasakibara produces, it looks like a whirlwind surrounds him

when he is rotating. Thor's Hammer can overpower three players.

Zone Edit

Murasakibara entered the ZoneAccording to Aomine and Kise, in terms

of ability, he meets the requirement to enter the "Zone" but unfortunately, he will never be able to becausehe does not have the most basic term needed, the love of basketball. However, these were proven wrongwhen Murasakibara entered the "Zone" during the last 20 seconds against Seirin in the Winter Cup.[32] Inthe end of the game against Seirin who had won, although it is not explain directly, it is hinted thatMurasakibara loves basketball as Aomine double confirmed that the requirement of this state and Kurokostated that it is impossible for him to hate basketball, another hint being his frustration towards his lost, where after he states that he will quit basketball, Murasakibara cries at his loss.

Relationships Edit

Tetsuya Kuroko Edit

Murasakibara belittles KurokoKuroko and Murasakibara have a rather

up-and-down relationship because when it comes to basketball, they're complete opposites.

Page 81: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 81/97

Murasakibara plays basketball effortlessly and has no passion for the sport itself, while Kuroko lovesbasketball and clawed his way up, even with his lack of talent. Off the court, it was shown in the Replacenovels that they got along quite well, with Kuroko even buying or winning snacks for Murasakibara to try. However, in Junior High school, they once got into a huge fight due to Murasakibara humiliating amember of the second-string from playing basketball again, causing Kuroko to flare up in anger.[33] AfterSeirin defeats Yōsen, Murasakibara stated that he hated basketball and would stop playing. Kuroko, however, smiled later on and said that there was no way Murasakibara really hatedbasketball.[34] Murasakibara stated in the Characters Bible that he got along with Kuroko the least.

Seijūrō Akashi Edit

Akashi was Murasakibara's favorite member of the Generation of Miracles. Akashi is one of the few

people whom Murasakibara willingly listens to and obeys. In the Replace novels, it was revealed that

Akashi was also quite gentle towards Murasakibara, promising to give him the bag of sweets he would

recieve as a prize from winning a shougi tournament. Not much more of their relationship has been

shown thus far.

Teppei Kiyoshi Edit

Murasakibara seemingly breaks Kiyoshi's spiritKiyoshi is the type of

person which Murasakibara hates the most: the type who never gives up and passionately lovesbasketball, even if they don't have the talent. Murasakibara defeated Kiyoshi before in Junior High school, even hating him back then already because of these reasons.[35] They later re-encounter each otherduring a Street Basketball 5 on 5, with Murasakibara not recognizing Kiyoshi at first. He later recognizeshis persistence and his will to crush Kiyoshi down fires back up.[36] Kiyoshi was Murasakibara's first rivalin the Winter Cup, purposely focusing on defeating Kiyoshi early on in the match. Kiyoshi uses this to hisadvantage to provoke Murasakibara purposely, causing others to say that even though he "lookedhonest, he's actually pretty sly". In the end, Murasakibara succeeded in breaking him, but Kiyoshi stilldidn't give up and returned nonetheless.[37] Kiyoshi also understands that Murasakibara doesn't reallyhate basketball.

Tatsuya Himuro Edit

Page 82: info about kuroko's basketball

7/28/2019 info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 82/97

Himuro is another person who can keep Murasakibara on a leash, often doing it with snacks.

Murasakibara stated in the Characters Bible that Himuro was the one who he got along with best in his

current team. He nicknames Himuro 'Muro-chin' while Himuro calls him by his first name, 'Atsushi'.

Himuro often drags a reluctant Murasakibara to watch matches with him. Himuro is also jealous of

Murasakibara's talent and, during the Seirin vs. Yōsen match, punches him when he refused to play

anymore. Himuro broke down in tears, stating that it drove him crazy when talented people took things for

granted. Murasakibara, possibly moved or guilty due to Himuro's tears, started to play in the match

seriously.[38]

Quotes Edit

"It's so disgusting that I feel like puking. All these things you guys seek: hard work, guts, faith. I'll

crush them all. Everything."[39]

"I'm gonna quit basketball."[40] (To Teppei Kiyoshi after losing to Seirin)

Trivia Edit

Characters Bible, "What IF Murasakibara was a Pastry Chef !?"He

ranked 8th on the second character poll, with 573 votes.

The kanji紫 (Murasaki) in his name means purple (or violet ), hinting to his hair color. There is no

distinction between "violet " and " purple" in Japanese language.[41]

He has a habit to shorten names and add suffix chin, for example Kuro-chin, Mido-chin, Mine-chin,

Akachin and Sa-chin.

If Murasakibara had an alternate job it would be as a Pastry Chef. His type of girl is one who is tall,

but not taller than him. His motto is "Sweets are Justice."[42]

Murasakibara hates crows, the reason being that they make weird noises

As shown in Kuroko no Basket novel Replace I, Murasakibara and Kuroko got along surprisingly

well as friends during their early days at Teikō. It was later in time that their different opinions on

basketball led them to clash, making Kuroko the GoM member with whom Murasakibara fights

most often. Still Kuroko has stated that he likes Murasakibara as a person.

Murasakibara has the record for making 100 points in a game, this could be a tribute to the

NBA Wilt Chamberlain, the only player to score 100 points in a single NBA game.

story.

Appearance Edit

Akashi is rather small-sized for being the captain of the Generation of Miracles, as noted by Kōki Furihata,

being only 173 cm tall, making him the second shortest out of the Generation of Miracles (with Kuroko

being the first). He has spiky red hair, large eyes with vertical pupils and an oval face. His hair was worn

with longer bangs in Junior High school and during the events before the Winter Cup. However he cut

them at the beginning of the Winter Cup with Midorima's scissors. Color pages have shown that Akashi

has heterochromatic eyes, with his right eye being red and his left being yellow/orange. It was shown in a

recent chapter that back in Junior High school, Akashi's eyes were both red. It might have changed

sometime in Junior High school. His jersey number is #4.

Akashi's appearance was not revealed for a long time. The times he appeared or was mentioned, only the

lower part of his face was seen, or the back of his head. His full appearance was only revealed atthe Winter Cup.

Personality Edit

Akashi

Akashi has a strange and extremely intimidating personality. He is able to control the Generation of

Miracles and is so far, the only person whom all the members of the Generation of Miracles knuckles

under. Even though he does not hold much respect for others, he has a certain respect for all of his

teammates, former and present, and has utter faith in their abilities. He possesses a strong winners-

mentality, viewing that winners get everything in life and losers are denied all. However, in contrast to his

philosophy, Akashi takes victory for granted as he thought that, for him, winning was merely given and

thus, lost the feeling of victory. Akashi also views his power and skill as absolute and grows violent when

anybody opposes what he says, shown when he tried to stab Kagami with the scissors he borrowed from

Midorima when Kagami disobeyed him. However this is corrected by Kagami, who revealed that he couldsense Akashi already knew he could evade it.[1]

While being the Generation's supreme commander, unlike the other members, Akashi addresses them

informally, calling them by their first names.[2] This is notable because most of the character's always

address each other with their last or family names, with very few exceptions. Akashi also disallows

anyone that opposes him to look and speak down to him, stating that only those who serve him are the

ones that can look him in the eye, i.e. theGeneration of Miracles and his Rakuzan team, while others who

Page 87: info about kuroko's basketball

oppose him cannot and should know their place. Akashi also stated that his orders are absolute and and

he will force them to submit.

"I will gouge out my eyes, and give them to you."Akashi seems to

often take things to the extreme, as he said that if Rakuzan lost the match against Shūtoku, then it wouldbe his fault and he would quit the team and gouge out his eyes in repentance.[3] The reactions from all ofhis teammates and Midorima implied that they knew Akashi would actually do it, somethingthat Takao noticed.

Despite his figure being somewhat related to as the manga's biggest villain, Akashi was shown in

the Kuroko no Basket: Kiseki no Game to be absolutely caring and considerate towards his former

teammates. He constantly reminds them of doing things the right way, even in the way they eat and take

care of their digestive system. It was much near the point of nagging that Aomine even called him

"mother". In the manga it is also shown that he often has complete faith in his teammates, saying during

the Shūtoku match that he did not believe that any of them would lose.[4]

History Edit

The first day of Junior High school, Akashi was dropped off by his driver, but insisted that he shouldn't

from now on, saying that he should at least have some freedom at school. Then, Akashi is seen at the try-

outs for the Teikō basketball club. His name is called as one of the four freshmen who made it into the

first string of the club, a feat never seen before.[5]

Akashi in Junior High schoolAkashi became the captain some time in his first and second year. One day, when he was still a first-year,

he encountered his fellow first-stringer Aominehaving extra practice at a remote gym. He notices

that Kuroko was also there and notices his special skill that was different than the rest of them.[6]He got

Kuroko to prove himself through some method and Kuroko eventually got in the first string, because of

Akashi's discovery of his talent that time. At one point, he ejected Shōgo Haizaki from the team.

Page 88: info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 88/97

It has also been implied that Akashi, who taught Kuroko his style of basketball, actually sabotaged Kuroko

by not teaching him Kuroko's Phantom Shot.[7]

During Akashi's captaincy time, he would often play shogi with Midorima(being vice-captain) during free

time and captain meetings. Akashi has never lost once and often compared it to basketball.[8]

Story Edit

Interhigh Edit

Akashi's interview

Akashi's team Rakuzan won against Tōō in the finals of the Interhigh, but neither Akashi

nor Aomine competed. After Rakuzan's victory, Akashi had an interview where he said that it wouldn't

have been fun if he played, because the victory would have been more certain than before.[9]

Winter Cup preliminaries Edit

Before Seirin's match against Josei High, Akashi was seen in his school,Rakuzan High. He mysteriously

throws up some shogi pieces and catches them, smiling.[10] His team did not have to take part in the

preliminaries, because they won the Interhigh and are automatically placed.

After the preliminaries and before the tournament, Akashi was seen practicing diligently at Rakuzan's

gym. He is thrown a towel for his perspiration by a teammate, and that player starts a conversation with

another player about Akashi. Akashi's way of thinking about pre-ordained victory is explained.[11]

Akashi attacks Kagami

Akashi first appears during the Winter Cup. He contacts the other Generation of Miracles after the

opening ceremony to meet up. While the Generation (andFurihata), is already gathered on the front stairs,

Akashi arrives late.[12] He apologizes for being late and greets the other members of the Generation of

Miracles, calling each one of them by their first names. He says that he enjoys seeing everyone together

and remarks that there is somebody here that shouldn't be present, referring to Furihata and asks him to

leave so that he can talk to his comrades, but is interrupted by Kagami, who tells him that he shouldn't actrude like that towards Furihata and allow him to stay. Kagami greets Akashi and Akashi calmly walks

towards Midorima, asking to borrow his scissors. Midorima asks why and Akashi replies that he was

thinking about cutting his hair. But instead, he walks towards Kagami and tries to stab him with the

scissors.[13] Kagami dodges, but Akashi is able to graze him across the cheek. Akashi decides to let him

off the hook for moving like that, but threatens him that he won't forgive him if he ever defies him again.

Akashi also states that because he always wins, therefore, he is always right, and some strands of hair

falls to the ground, finally revealing his full appearance.

Akashi then announces that he has finished his business here, much to the surprise of Aomine. Akashi

explains that he came to check whether they all remember the oath the Generation took but tells him that

it looks like no-one has forgotten yet and then takes his leave, after telling them that the next time they will

meet, will be in battle.[14] He is later seen watching the match between Seirin and Tōō.[15]

When Kuroko shows his new Ignite Pass Kai, Akashi is surprised and impressed by his new skill. Akashi

attends the later matches as well, he is seen during Yōsen vs Seirin and Kaijō vs Fukuda Sōgō. His team

has won every match in the meantime and has made their way to the semi-finals.

Semi-finals Edit

The Rakuzan teamThe day of the semi-finals has come and Akashi is

seen in his uniform next to his team, with three Uncrowned Kings.[16]

Match time and Akashi leads his team to the court. While his teammates fool around, Akashi warns them

about Shūtoku's strength. He gets his uniform ready and confirms to Mibuchi that he's a starter. He is

handed a towel and is treated with respect, even by the second years, even more by the

prideful Uncrowned Kings. He, as a first year even became captain right away, an unheard of case. When

the match starts, Midorima approaches Akashi and even though Akashi keeps saying that he simply

never loses, Midorima states that he will teach him defeat. The tip-off goes to Takao, who quickly passes

to Midorima and he pulls up for a mid-court three pointer. It goes in and Midorima repeats that he will beat

Akashi. Akashi seems amused.[17]

Akashi vs TakaoDuring the first quarter, Akashi does not do anything

special. He is seen to be guarded by Takao and tries to get past him by using speed, but then passes to

the inside instead. Takao was expecting an overwhelming force from the captain, but so far, that hasn'tbeen the case. The Shūtoku coach, Nakatani, speculates that Akashi is merely scouting the area andshould be advancing any minute. Midorima confronts him about this after the time-out between the 1stand 2nd quarter and asks him if he's not even going to use "his eyes". Akashi says that he isn't goingeasy, but that he should just not reveal his trump card so easily. He adds that they will probably winwithout any effort from Akashi and this angers Midorima. He continues on the matterwhen Hayama begins to play for real, proving that his teammates might be enough to ensure victory.[18]

Midorima ties the score at 39 – 39, Akashi stops the double-team on him and says that he will take on

Midorima himself. During half-time, Seirin has time to warm up and they pass Rakuzan. Akashi

and Kuroko greet each other. But Kagami steps up to Akashi and warns Akashi not to forget about him.

He tells Akashi that he will defeat both him and Kise. Akashi states that while he acknowledges Kagami's

ability, he warns Kagami that the only ones who are allowed to look him in the eye and speak are those

that serve him. He lightly pushes Kagami and Kagami falls. Kagami is confused on what Akashi did,

knowing that it was not mere strength. Akashi tells Kuroko to be prepared if they wanted to fight him, for

he was the one who f irst discovered Kuroko's talent, adding that Kuroko would come to understand what

that means.[19]

Akashi ankle breaks Takao and scoresThe third quarter starts and it

begins with a face-off between the two teams aces. Midorima pulls up for a three pointer, but Akashi isable to steal the ball when it was still at low height. He pushes the ball up court, but encountersTakao. Inthe stands, Murasakibara explains that Akashi's eyes can see everything, from minuscule movements ofthe muscles to the heartbeat. Takao is glued to Akashi, but Akashi sees the movements of his feet andcrosses over, making Takao fall on his back. Meanwhile, Akashi is at the free-throw line and scores theshot.[20]

With Akashi's dominance over the game, Rakuzan enters the fourth and final quarter with a 14-point lead.

As Akashi gets a screen from Kimura, Akashi simply runs next to it, having foreseen it with a wide vision

of field. Midorima receives the ball, but can't get into a shooting position because of Akashi's defense.

When Midorima shifts to a "triple threat" position to pass to Takao, Akashi intercepts the ball and makes a

fast break to the other side of the field, but is awaited by Kimura and Miyaji. Akashi ankle breaks them

both and goes to the basket, is about to be blocked by Ōtsubo, but passes to Nebuya, who dunks it. He

later passes Midorima with the words that not even the Generation of Miracles can stop him. He makes

the lay-up and widens the gap to 20 points.[21]

Akashi faces Midorima's new skill

All hope for Shūtoku High seems lost, but Midorima and Takao regain their fighting spirit. Midorima faces

Akashi and suddenly moves into a shooting position - without the ball in possession. He goes up and the

ball flies into his hands, a pass sent by Takao. Akashi is perplexed to see all of this and can't stop the

shot, that goes in. They repeat the process in the next attack. When Midorima confronts Akashi, telling

him that the match has only just begun, Akashi smiles and agrees.[22]

Rakuzan is on the offense and Akashi faces Midorima. Midorima is fueled up and determined to not let

him pass, but Akashi does an ankle break and makes Midorima fall to the ground. Akashi quick to reach

the basket and goes for the lay-up, but a still determined Midorima stands back up and makes it to Akashi

to block the shot. Akashi reacts by shifting his shot to a pass outside to Nebuya, but he is blocked

by Ōtsubo. Midorima makes another shot and Rakuzan is pressured an the inbound. Akashi gets double-

teamed by Takao and Midorima, but he simply backs up and... Shoots at his own hoop. Ignoring the

shocked reactions of everyone, Akashi turns to his team and scolds them for slacking off just because of

the temporary point difference just now. Akashi tells them to calm down and states that they would not

have demonstrated such unsightly plays had the point difference been smaller. However, he explains that

if they were to lose, his own goal just now would be the reason and thus, they could blame him as much

Page 92: info about kuroko's basketball

as they liked. He adds that he would take full responsibility and quit the club immediately. As a symbol of

atonement, he would gouge out his eyes and give it to them, to which his team members scold him for

taking things to such an extreme. But Akashi tells them that he was not worried, for he had full confidence

and faith that they would not lose the match. The Rakuzan members calm down and comes back with

another basket. Akashi mysteriously tells Midorima that he will no longer be able to touch the ball.[23]

Akashi stops Takao's passMidorima tells Akashi that it is impossible to

stop their shots, even with the Emperor Eye, but Akashi tells him that he is absolute, as he can see thefuture, it was but a simple matter to change it. A double-team is engaged on Takao but Takao easily getsthrough and passes the ball to the already in-position Midorima. However, Akashi stops the ball midwayand tells Takao that he is absolute, surprising Midorima and Takao.[24] With the ball in his possession,Akashi easily scores a goal and the point difference shoots up to 13. Akashi explains that the shot had itsflaws, because Midorima was left-handed, the ball must always come from the left. In addition, eventhough the ball was not in his possession, Midorima's movements were still the same. In short, evenwithout the Emperor Eye, Akashi can easily find out his pass course and timing. The Emperor Eye wasused for only one moment, to move one step faster than Takao, so that once the moment he could notcancel his move arrives, Akashi could have already acted. The double-team also let Takao through on

purpose, in order to shorten the distance between him and Akashi. Takao is shocked, having thought that he already grasped Akashi's speed from the first-half with his

Hawk Eye, thus, even if Akashi had moved a step faster, he would not have reached in time, until he

slowly realizes that Akashi had lowered his speed subtlety on purpose in the first half, to the point of

which even Midorima would not have noticed. Akashi tells Midorima that shogi and basketball are all the

same, a strategic move will only work if you plan ahead without the opponent becoming aware of it. The

game continues and Mibuchi scores a goal while getting fouled, despite Takao's attempt to stop him. The

match is coming to an end as the Rakuzan players score a few more goals. Akashi comes into

possession of the ball and Midorima tries to stop him. Akashi tells him that it is over and performs an

ankle break, causing Midorima to fall. However, Midorima resolutely refuses to give up and jumps to stop

him. Akashi repeats his respect for Midorima and Shūtoku High School, but warns Midorima that he won'treach. As to his word, Midorima is unable to stop the shot and the match ends, with Rakuzan winning by

16 points. Akashi whispers "Sleep, Veteran King."[25]

Akashi meets Midorima after his victoryBoth teams line up to thank

each other for the match. Akashi, like his Rakuzan teammates, aren't cheering but rather look like theyhave overcome an ordeal, as commented on by the Kaijō team. Midorima offers a handshake to Akashiand admits his lost, but tells him that Shūtoku would win next time. Akashi expresses his gratitude toMidorima for such a thrilling game and apologizes, stating that he was unable to accept his handshake. He warns Midorima to become less compassionate if he were to crave victory. Akashi states that victoryis everything and he wanted to be Midorima's enemy.[26] Midorima laments that Akashi still had notchanged from last time but insists that they would win next time. Both teams leave the court whileelsewhere, a watching Himuro with Murasakibara reflects on that match and how the emperor's strengthis so much greater. However, he notes that while it did not seem like Rakuzan was going easy onShūtoku, he uneasily wonders if that was Rakuzan's true strength, or more importantly, Akashi Seijūrō'strue strength. Either way, Himuro comments that there was no end to Rakuzan High School's potential

strength. Akashi watches the match

After a post-game meeting with his team, Akashi sits in the audience to spectate the last quarter of Kaijō

vs Seirin. As he sees how strong Seirin really is and after positive comments from his teammates, Akashi

acknowledges Seirin's strength. He says that Kaijō has a very capable team, but that withoutKise, they

stand little to no chance versus the current Seirin. He also deduces that with the current state of affairs,

that the match will be decided in Seirin's favor if they manage to get 15 points ahead.[27]

Skill Edit

Akashi passingAkashi possesses great leadership skills, as captain of

the Teikō basketball team, he lead the team to consecutive victories and they would later be known as

the Generation of Miracles. At Rakuzan High, he became the captain of the basketball team, which Miyaji comments is highly unusual as upper-class students would not normally surrender theirposition to a first year and also the fact that the 3 Uncrowned Kings (who are known to be pridefulindividuals) follow his order without question. Akashi is shown to be very fast and an excellent ball-handler. According to Masaaki Nakatani, the way Akashi played in the first quarter of Rakuzan vsShūtoku is similar to how one would play shogi, with Akashi assessing the situation before he makes hismove, indicating that Akashi is a skilled tactician. Akashi's plays are extremely well-designed, as it wasrevealed in the Rakuzan vs Shūtoku match that everything that had occurred was all a part of Akashi'splan. It is also stated by Takao that Akashi's perfection as a point guard is undeniable.

Emperor Eye Edit

  Blocking Midorima's shot

1 of 7 Add photo

As revealed in the 3rd quarter of Rakuzan vs Shūtoku, Akashi's eyes are able to observe everymovement of his opponent, thus predicting the opponent's next move. According to Murasakibara, his Emperor Eye can see the smallest details of a person's movements, including their breathing, heartbeat, sweat, muscle contractions, etc. With this, he is able to time his defensive actions perfectly tonullify the opponent's offensive ability, stopping whatever move the opponent is trying to perform.[28] Onthe flip side, Akashi can also use this ability for his offense, reading the opponent's defense and actingfaster than the opponent's body can react. In short, he can "see the future of his opponent's moves."

Field of Vision: Akashi has a amazing field of vision and can easily find openings in defenses,

which allowed him to pass the ball through Kazunari Takao's guard.[29] Also, similar to the Hawk's

Eye, Akashi's field of vision is very wide and covers his blind spots, allowing him to easily avoid a

screen from Shinsuke Kimura.[30]

Triple Threat Defense: Akashi's eyes can capture the moment the opponent goes into Triple

Threat , the most basic form in basketball. It is the form that sets up all three motions: shooting,

passing, and dribbling. Any move a player makes will always start from that stance. Using his eyes,

Akashi can see this moment and will move in to steal the ball. Essentially, against Akashi's

defense, the opponent is not even permitted to move.[31]

Ankle Break: Akashi can perform the Ankle Break , a high-level speed dribble that disrupts his

opponent's balance and makes them fall. This situation only occurs when the opponent's center of

gravity is on their pivot leg while they're turning. Akashi's eyes, which see the future, can cause this

easily.[32]

Situational Analysis: Akashi's mental speed when assessing a scenario and making split

decisions is extremely fast, which allowed him to switch from a lay-up to a pass in an instant

against Midorima.[33]

Off the court, Akashi's eyes are also able to discover people's hidden talents.[34] With it, he was the first

to recognize Kuroko's latent skill for misdirection.[35]

Relationships Edit

Page 95: info about kuroko's basketball

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/info-about-kurokos-basketball 95/97

Shintarō Midorima Edit

During the period of Akashi's captaincy, he would often play shogi with Midorima (who was vice-captain),

in which the latter never won any of the matches. Midorima shows much respect to Akashi, albeit

appearing somewhat grudgingly, even when he graduates from Teikō Junior High and enrolls in Shūtoku

High, where Akashi is no longer his captain. Before the Winter Cup, Midorima allows Akashi to borrow his

scissors (the day's lucky item) despite refusing Murasakibara earlier on.[36] During the Rakuzan vs

Shūtoku match, Akashi admits that he acknowledges Midorima's skills and in turn, Midorima is also fully

aware of Akashi's formidable skills, and acknowledges his strength, something which he rarely did for

others. After the match, Midorima offers a handshake to Akashi, though the latter refuses it, wishing to

remain as Midorima's enemy.[37] Midorima does not show any signs of anger but merely laments that

Akashi was still the same and insists that Shūtoku would emerge victorious the next time they battle

again. Midorima also appears to be competitive with Akashi.

Generation of Miracles Edit

Akashi is much feared and respected amongst the Generation of Miracles. As the former captain of Teikō,

he led the team to many victories, in which would cause them to be later known as the Generation of

Miracles. Notably, Akashi refers to all of his team members by their first names while most of the other

members refer to each other by their family names, with a few exceptions. Akashi was the one who

discovered Kuroko's hidden abilities and allowed him to advance to first string. However, it has also been

implied that he did not teach Kuroko the Phantom Shot on purpose. The rest of the Generation of

Miracles, all respect him and shows much acknowledgement towards his abilities,

with Murasakibara even stating that he could not envision Akashi losing.

Tetsuya Kuroko: Kuroko and Akashi's relationship hasn't been fully revealed yet, though it was

mentioned that Akashi was the one who discovered Kuroko's talent and the one who taught him

basketball techniques and helped strengthen his misdirections. Akashi is also the one who

promoted Kuroko from the third string toTeikō's regulars.[38] Like his former teammates, Kuroko

respects, but also fears Akashi. It was shown in the beginning of the Winter Cup that Kuroko

obeyed Akashi's summon without question.

In novel replace Kuroko mentioned that "if Akashi was a teacher, it would make lessons very easy

to understand", this likely refers to their time back at Teiko where Akashi was Kuroko's personal

instructor.

Trivia Edit

  Akashi's early concept Characters

Bible, "What IF Akashi was a professional shogi p layer !?"On the first character poll, Akashi

ranked 29th, with 26 votes, before even appearing yet. On the second poll, he ranked 18th with

263 votes.

The kanji赤 (Aka) in his first name means red , hinting to his hair color. The next kanji 司 (Shi)

means ruler/king.

If following the Japanese school year (in which school begins and ends in April), then Akashi would

be the second youngest of the Generation of Miracles (Kuroko would be the youngest).

In the original datebook, Characters Bible, an early character concept sketch of Akashi is seen. His

current hairstyle and the one in middle school are drawn, together with three other alternate

hairstyles.

At the time when Akashi's face hasn't been revealed yet, he sometimes appeared very mysterious

and cool with his face covered, e.g. throwing a shogi piece in that air and catching it dramatically.

This was made fun of in the bloopers, when he failed to catch the piece. Other intimidating actions

also failed in other bloopers.

Akashi is the first person who found out Kuroko's strength.[41][42]

According to the Characters Bible, Akashi's alternative job choice is to be a professional shogi

player. His specialty is horse riding and his favourite food is Tofu Soup. His motto is "Quick and

decisive". He hates disobedient dogs because they don't listen to him.

According to a Q&A in the manga, Akashi says that he often goes horse-riding on off days and that

he started basketball because he finds it fascinating how a player has to use both intellectual and

physical skill to play the game. He also commented that he got along with Midorima the most,

Page 97: info about kuroko's basketball

during their days in Teikō. If he was asked who he got along with the least, he answered Aomine,
