Presented by the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the University of California,San Francisco School of Medicine, this coursereviews clinically relevant topics in infectiousdiseases which are chosen because they are ofinterest to the practicing clinician or because therehave been significant recent advances in diagnosisor treatment.
TARGET AUDIENCEThe course is designed to meet the needs of avariety of clinicians, including primary carephysicians, family physicians, general practitioners,hospitalists, internists, nurse practitioners,pediatricians, clinical pharmacists, and other healthprofessionals who are involved with infectiousdiseases in the inpatient or outpatient settings.
Upon completion of the activity an attendee will be able to:
• Diagnose, manage, and treat commoninfections encountered in clinical practice such as skin and soft tissue infections,respiratory tract infections, urinary tractinfections, gastrointestinal infections, hepatitis,Staphylococcus aureus infections, nosocomialinfections, and infections of the central nervous systems;
• Improve assessment and management of lesscommon infections, such as endocarditis,infections in immunocompromised patients,infections associated with travel, andmycobacterial infections;
• Accurately diagnose HIV infection andrecognize and treat common HIV-associatedinfectious diseases;
• Identify newer vaccines and antimicrobialagents, their efficacy and appropriate usage for prevention and treatment of bacterial, viral,and fungal infections;
• Improve diagnosis and treatment ofdermatologic manifestations of infectiousdiseases.
