under direct supervision of a surgeon, the ARTAS System provides a more precise and less invasive

extraction technique than a human hand working a scalpel.

HOW DOES IT WORK? The ARTAS system employs a robotic arm combined with images from a set of cameras to analyse hair follicles. Calculating angle and direction of each hair follicle, the ARTAS system can then determine the best angle and incision depth to harvest each follicle. Small needle incisions are made and recorded photographically. Next, the image-guided robot arm harvests the follicles in a random pattern which, once the incisions are healed, leaves virtually no mark. Combining the algorithms with the image guidance technology means only the best follicles are extracted, resulting in no damage to other follicles and better survival rates for the grafts.

With strip-based surgery, the donor site requires seven to 10 days to heal however with the ARTAS system, patient recovery time is a mere two – three days.
