INNOVATE SOLUTIONS FOR WASTE WATER TREATMENT

The company Metal MB s.r.o. is an engineering and production company, whose production program

includes production of components for wastewater treatment plants, designing and deliveries of

complete technological equipment of water treatment plants. The technological part of the equipment

is designed as a mechanical-biological treatment plant with a controlled de-nitrification, nitrification

and simultaneous aerobic sludge stabilisation.

Technology Description

The classic technology of biological treatment of sewage waste waters is based on the separation of

undissolved substances from the treated sewage water by means of agglomeration processes with the

subsequent gravitation sedimentation of the formed agglomerates. The sedimentation speed of the

activated sludge depends on many parameters, among others mainly on its concentration in the

system causing that the sedimentation speed is rather limited. While conventional technology uses the

suspension of the activated sludge freely dispersed in the sewage water, the Metal MB provides its

reactors with the advanced Brentwood FBBR technology enabling the fixation of micro-organisms on

various types of solid internal carriers. This leads to the significant increase in the amount of the

biomass in the system and therefore to the remarkable increase of the treatment capacity of water

treatment plants.

Fixed Bed Bio Reactor (FBBR)

The difference in the composition of the bio film enlargement in comparison with the classic activated

sludge also makes it possible to stabilize the system relatively easily. That effect could eliminate some

potential problems of the water treatment, such as sludge washing up necessity during overload,

occurrence of filamentous sludge bulking and others. The other advantage of FBBR technology is the

very efficient contact between pollution components contained in the sewage water and the bio film

itself. FBBR technology is therefore the progressive treatment solution allowing the use of ultra-light

tank directly in the activation space, makes thus possible to rapidly increase the treatment

performance. That solution allows for a decrease of construction cost as well as limits required space

for the treatment plant and it also ensures a remarkable intensification of existing wastewater

treatment plants through reconstruction and/or upgrading exercises.

FBBR advantages

• Energy efficiency in comparison to other attached growth process due to fine bubble diffusers

• System is compatible with most diffuser brands and types (tubular or disk, ceramic or

membrane)

• No necessity for frequent treatment equipment wash outs or need for periodic replacement

• Easy maintenance of diffusers without removing the media

• No plugging or clogging of the media due to air lifting pump behaviour

FBBR Activation area design

FBBR reactor AccuFAS® systems are consist of Submerged Structured-Sheet Media that is typically

placed in wastewater aeration tanks to improve the BOD removal, nitrification, or TN removal

efficiency and increases treatment capacity by adding to the biomass inventory of the system as

bacteria grow on the surface of the media.

The system provides inexpensive solution

for BOD removal and nitrification,

through higher kinetic rates, flexible

designs and applications, and resisting

wash-out. The manufacturer design team

draws on over 25 years of fixed-growth

process experience to guide the design

and application of their wastewater

treatment products.

Conventional clarifier combined with Brentwood lamellas

• The conventional clarifier-settling tank with a concrete structure and a complicated system of

collection of settled sludge by means of the rotating bridge use to be costly and its area

requirement is also large.

• Lamellar fittings installed into the clarifier tank with special manifolds or a funnel for collection

of settled sludge, are used for intensification of the gravitation sedimentation. The purpose of

lamellar fittings is to prevent formation of disruptive density flows and therefore to increase

the efficiency of the separation of the activated sludge (undissolved substances) from the

treated sewage water. The inner fitting directs the flow of the mixture in the settlement tank

and enables an increase of concentration of the collected sludge. Such solutions of the

construction of the biological reactor are protected by a series of registered designs.

• The above described solution enables inserting the stainless steel made clarifiers directly to an

activation area and saves a plant area remarkably.

Option of technology implementation

FBBR technology can be efficiently used for treating communal and for industrial waste water, water

from food production, agriculture etc. FBBR technology is not limited with the amount of wastewater,

so it covers the capacities of the water treatment from units of few inhabitants equivalent to the

biggest communal or industrial water treatment needs.

Mono-block reactors (capacity 150-1000 PE)

The production series of water treatment plants COMPACT (industrial water treatment) has the

capacity from 150 to 1000 PE = Population equivalent … (7.5–150 m3/day of sewage water) and it is

also the ideal solutions for a larger apartments or hotel complexes or even for small municipalities.

The module structure allows for an easy assembly of any municipal or industrial water treatment plant

using either firm or mobile versions (could be used in more sites, if so required).

Mono-block FBBR reactor (capacity 1000-10000 PE)

Water treatment plants with the category of sizes up to 10 000 PE use FBBR technology with metal

settlement tanks and they are suitable especially for medium-sized spruces of pollution. Their

capacities could therefore cover needs of small towns and municipalities, suburban satellites,

decentralized offices, larger individual building complexes such as high buildings, large hotels etc. Such

types of water treatment plants are designed for treatment of virtually all types of biologically polluted

sewage waters of communal or industrial character. There is also a very important possibility of using

the plants for reconstructions and/or upgrading of old water treatment plants enabling thus the rapid

increase of their treatment capacities and at the same time the efficiency of treatment resulting in

better (lower) effluent parameters.
