ur eighth biennial Cancer, Culture and Literacy Conference offers extraordinary networking and learning

opportunities for individuals wanting to learn more about the roles of culture, language and literacy in cancer health disparities and in the design, implementation and evaluation of cancer communications, research programs and educational interventions. This three-day conference offers a number of interactive activities including pre-conference skill-building workshops, plenary and breakout sessions, breakfast roundtables and a poster session. Hosted by Moffitt Cancer Center, the conference provides a national forum for the exchange of information covering innovative research, novel education and training programs, and community-engaged outreach with a particular emphasis on advancing meaningful and accessible cancer communications.

Intended Audience Healthcare professionals involved in creating effective culturally, linguistically and literacy relevant cancer communications, education, innovative materials/media, programs and community interventions, programs and research. This may include researchers, educators, healthcare professionals, advocates, lay persons and survivors.

Conference objectives to bring the proposed activities to completion, we draw upon our vast experiences to:

• Identify the intersection of cancer, culture and literacy when developing cancer, education programs, messages, and research-to–practice initiatives;

• Develop new skills in the design, implementation, evaluation, dissemination, and application of cancer communications through CBPR for addressing health equity

• Draw attention to recent advances in health communication strategies that improve access to health information and resources;

• Foster a mindset that embraces cultural and literacy considerations for reducing the cancer burden; and

• Enhance career development and networking for those engaged in cancer communications work.
