PRC Rapid Seal® sealants are a family of high performancefuel-resistant sealants designed for use in areas exposed tochemicals and petroleum products. The traditional polysulfidecompounds are used for fuel tank sealing, corrosion inhibitionand electrical insulation.

Note: It is important to read and understand the MSDS,process specification, and technical data sheet before workingwith these products.

Immediately before applying sealant to primed substrates, thesurfaces should be cleaned with a solvent i.e., Desoclean® 110.Contaminants such as dirt, grease, and/or processing lubricantsmust be removed to ensure good adhesion prior to sealant appli-cation.

A progressive cleaning procedure should be employed using theappropriate solvents and new, lint-free cloth. (Reclaimed sol-vents or tissue paper cannot be used.) Always pour solvent onthe cloth to avoid contaminating the solvent supply. Wash onesmall area at a time. It is important that the surface is driedwith a second clean cloth prior to the solvent evaporating toprevent the redeposition of contaminants on the substrate.Substrate composition can vary greatly. This can affect sealantadhesion. It is recommended that adhesion characteristics to aspecific substrate be determined prior to application of sealanton production parts or assemblies.

Special notes: For chemical storage tank repair where freshsealant will be applied over aged fuel soaked sealant, the use ofan adhesion promoter like PR-148 or PR-182 is essential.

Proper mixing and correct component proportions are extremelyimportant to assure optimal results.

Step 1 - You will need the following pieces of equipment to mixyour kit of PRC Rapid Seal® Sealant (Figure 1):

    1) Standard Electric Drill (110) or a heavy duty cordlessdrill

    2) Jiffy Mixer or equal universal mixing blade

    3) Extra long spatula

    4) Flat head screw driver

    5) Gloves and tarp

Step 2 – Open the pail of base (Figure 2) and the quart can ofaccelerator (Figure 3) using the flat head screw driver.

Step 3 – Empty the quart can of accelerator into the base pail(Figure 4). Ensure that the entire amount of accelera-tor has been removed from the can and put into thebase pail (Figure 5). Prepare the drill and paddle formixing.

  • Step 4 – Begin mixing the sealant with the drill at approximate-ly 600 RPM. Mix for approximately 2 minutes (Figure6). Then use the extra long spatula to scrape the sidesto ensure a thorough mix (Figure 7). Then continuemixing for additional 3 minutes. Rotate the mixingblade slowly around the pail to mix all areas.

Step 5 – Continue mixing until there are no white streaks ofcolor in your blend (Figure 8). Ensuring the materialis completely mixed is essential to maintaining thesealant’s application and strength properties.

Step 1 – To apply your PRC Rapid Seal® Sealant you will needthe following equipment (Figure 9):

    1) Plastic Cartridge (desired size will vary)

    2) Vaculoader® or similar equipment

    3) Vaculoader® base plate

    4) Extrusion gun (air-powered or manual) Semco® 250 orSemco® 850 or standard 1/10 gallon hand-caulking gun

Step 2 – Attach the Vaculoader® or similar equipment operatingvalve to the top of the cartridge. Then fit the cartridgefirmly on the top of the follower plate and lower theplate into the pail (Figure 10). Once the follower plateis secured in the pail, turn on the Vaculoader® pump tobegin filling the cartridge.

Step 3 – Once the cartridge is filled, you may begin the actualapplication process. See the section on surface prepa-ration to ensure proper application.

Manganese dioxide cured polysulfides: relative humidity affectsthe cure rate. Low humidity increases tack free and cure times.High humidity accelerates or shortens the cure time for man-ganese dioxide cured polysulfides.

Cure may be hastened by applying heat. Polysulfide sealantswith a two hour, or less, application time, can obtain a servicea-ble cure hardness of 30 Durometer A after eight hours at 125 ± 5°F (52 ± 3°C).

Although polysulfide sealants develop a high state of cure in 14days at 75°F (25°C), longer cure times further improve ultimateresistance to fluids, heat, and pressure. Maximum cure is usuallyobtained in 30 to 50 days.

Effect of temperature and humidity for all PRC Rapid Seal®sealants products except PRC Rapid Seal® 670.
