ACADEMIC PROJECT
Title : Integrated Drunken Drive Prevention System
Objective : Automotive Safety
Presently, since all the development in automotive field is either emission or safety oriented, the
topic concerning safety was given priority. A statistical view of the accident factors and the
frequency of fatalities in a due course of time were dragged down from internet and the conclusion
was clear that above 50% of accidental cases occur due to drunken drive. The basic principle of the
system is that it cuts off the current flow to the ignition system with the help of a microcontroller as
soon as the alcohol sensor senses the alcohol content in the driver and immediately the vehicle
ignition is turned off automatically.
Self-contribution: Self was involved in fabrication of the working model, included a solenoid
valve in order to demonstrate the fuel flow stoppage after the ignition gets cut off,and
seek for the compatibility of the device into the vehicle interiors which ensured the effective
working of the device.
4 students from Automobile Department including me were involved in the project. The project was
done under the guidance of Mrs.K.Sunitha [Assistant Professor in Automobile Department] and was
countersigned by Prof. R.Manickam [H.O.D. of Automobile Dept. Of St.Peter’s University].
