Indoor Recreation Facilities Questionnaire ____________________________________________________________________________________________

The Office of Recreation and Park Resources at the University of Illinois was working

with the Village of Mahomet to conduct a survey to obtain accurate information that

would help guide the Village’s direction for short-term and long-range recreation

planning for the Mahomet community, especially as it relates to recreation facilities. The

survey was conducted from late March-April. The survey was conducted to obtain valid

results on other communities that recently built a recreation facility. The survey was

administered by a combination of mail and web based methods.

Throughout the semester a Recreation, Sport and Tourism student worked with

employees from the University and Mahomet Parks and Recreation Department in

development of the survey questionnaire and other elements of the project. This work

allowed the survey to be tailored to issues of importance to plan for the future.

In March of 2011, surveys were mailed to ten different recreation facilities in Illinois to

obtain information for a future facility plan in Mahomet. Approximately 2 days after the

surveys were mailed, each facility received an email encouraging them to complete the

survey and send it back to the Mahomet facility or complete the survey online. In

addition, about 3 weeks after the surveys were mailed, the facilities received a second

email reminding them that there is an online survey option and asking them to complete

the survey.

The goal was to obtain nine questionnaires and have more information about recreation

facilities located in central Illinois, which were built within the last 15 years. The survey

had 66.7% return rate.

The following pages summarize major survey findings:

Question 1:

Question 1 asked the respondents if their park and recreation department is a separate
