Papua was made a project area by the government with special consideraƟons that the forest of Papua that are increasingly being threatened needs to be protected. Over 50 parƟcipants from the Ministry of Forestry, provincial Ministry of Forestry, police, military, AƩorney General’s Oce, community leaders, and non-governmental organisaƟons parƟcipated. A work plan for the project was designed in consultaƟon with all. Discussions in Oslo on illegal logging 29 August - 4 September 2010 UNODC Country Manager, Mr. Ajit Joy was in Oslo, Norway for discussions with various Norwegian authoriƟes on the new Norway Government funded UNODC project on illegal logging. Mr. Joy had meeƟngs with Norwegian Agency for Development CooperaƟon, Norwegian Climate and Forest IniƟaƟve of the Ministry of Environment, the Auditor General’s Oce, The NaƟonal Authority for InvesƟgaƟon and ProsecuƟon of Economic and Environmental Crime, The Norwegian NaƟonal Advisory Group against Organized Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing, the Center for InternaƟonal Climate and Environmental Research and Rain Forest FoundaƟon Norway. UNODC Heads of Oce plan for the future 13 – 14 September 2010 UNODC Regional Center for East Asia and the Pacic held the Heads of Oce meeƟng in Bangkok. The meeƟng allowed senior management to take stock of the regional programme, discuss emerging opportuniƟes for programme expansion and to develop a regional acƟon plan. A key focus of the meeƟng also involved reecƟng on lessons learned and program results. Indonesian NaƟonal Police pursues further accountability 21 September 2010 The Indonesian NaƟonal Police top level management school (SESPIM) conƟnues its eort on building integrity, transparency, oversights and accountability within Indonesian NaƟonal Police. IniƟated by the Head of SESPIM Inspector General Paulus Purwoko, iniƟated a naƟonal seminar to discuss the formulaƟon of police accountability, problems and ideal soluƟons at the conceptual and implementaƟon levels. Commisioner General Nanan Soekarna, UNODC Country Manager, Mr. Ajit Joy and Chair of The Commission for the “Disappeared and VicƟms” of Violence, Usman Hamid were speakers at this seminar. 300 parƟcipants aƩended include police, media, non-governmental organizaƟons and academics. Urban crime symposium gathers experts from across Asia to share global perspecƟve 30 September 2010 the University of Indonesia hosted its 3rd symposium on “Learning from Japan” Ɵtled, “Enriching the Way to Crime- Free Society: The CreaƟon of Safe and Secure Urban Living Environment.” The symposium drew eminent speakers and parƟcipants from academia and the law enforcement communiƟes of Indonesia and Japan, other speakers included the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia. During the symposium speakers discussed their ideas concerning the desirability of a crime-free society, zero-tolerance enforcement approaches, and the role of police in theoreƟcal and pracƟcal terms. UNODC Country Manager, Mr. Ajit Joy presented a paper on urban crime in Jakarta, ciƟng the city’s remarkably low reported crime rate while assessing potenƟal threats and negaƟve trends that could potenƟally impinge law enforcement eorts in Jakarta. Grass root civil society organizaƟons gearing to ght corrupƟon in Indonesia 22 – 24 September 2010 UNODC and the Partnership for Governance Reform are supporƟng 15 civil society organizaƟons to lead the ght against corrupƟon across Indonesia. Through this Norway-funded iniƟaƟve, each civil society organizaƟon will receive a grant of up to US$ 30,000 for one year’s work. The Partnership for Governance Reform organized an orientaƟon and training session for the selected civil society organizaƟons in Semarang. This training was to revise or modify the submiƩed proposal and plan of acƟviƟes so that it would be more achievable and conforming to the logical framework. Through this Norway-funded ini a ve, each

civil society organiza on will receive a grant of

up to US$ 30,000 for one year’s work.
