The Hoosier Chatter September 2019

Hello Indiana,

Indiana followed the Yellow-brick Road out to Kansas and returned with great honors. It was as if the Great Wizard of Oz himself was still there be-hind the curtain overseeing so many of our Indiana people onto the stage to receive their very deserving awards! Congratulations to all who participated and helped put Indiana back in the conversation around the fire rings; Indiana is feeling blessed with wonderful peo-ple who put their “Heart” and “Courage” and “Brain” (Mind) in all they have accomplished. Our Indiana Munchkins (Youth) came home winners with the Camping Is Color sheets & Posters; they will receive their trophies at the Fall Invitational. Thank you to these wonderful future FCRV Leaders and to their families! Our own Indiana teen Queen Macey made us so proud by putting her heart and soul and her mind to becoming the International Teen Queen, which she so deservingly won! Thanks for making us all so proud to have you represent our organization throughout the remainder of this year through to next July as our Queen! Macey also won the Conserva-tion Essay contest, well done! Folks, there are others from Indiana that were awarded or who came in 1st place with the Games/sports. Congratulations to ALL! What can be said of our Indiana folks who partici-pated at the Regional? “Do not order Root Beer from Fletcher!” We had a wonderful time at the Regional,

(See STATE DIRECTOR, Continued on page 6)

Dear fellow campers,

We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for the support you have given us over the past decade as we have been board members. We had promised Dick Shear that after Christina finished her masters that we would take a position on the board. We did two years as secretary (thank you so much Stacy & Brad for having done that same position for the last eight years after taking over from us). We then did two stints as treasurer, with the change in term periods equaled five years, and then the last three years as President.

Prior to having this experience, we would watch others and think, we could do better. We have been humbled, each person brings their strengths and weaknesses and for all that have come before us, THANK YOU for your service as well.

This organization has given us so much and we have served with pleasure, but the years have taken a toll and know Ed will come back on as president with a renewed strength that is needed. He will have oth-ers who will be passionate about their positions as well.

See you all around the campfire in October.

Christina & Richard Lucas

We had a great Summer Campout at Cornerstone Campground is New Castle this weekend. We had 20 units and four second families. We starting the weekend with Walking Tacos Fri-day Night. Saturday, we had a Gun Safety class taught by Christopher Weiss, followed by a group going to Victory Range and Armory. There was swimming, youth activities and Root Beer Floats. The evening ended with a wonderful performance from our FCRV International Teen Queen, Macey Stuckwisch. I wanted to thank our friends for helping make this weekend a success, Christina and Rick Lucas, also Christopher and Denise Weiss. It was great to see old and new friends. Until next time….. Brad and Stacy Davis

The Fire Flies had a great weekend at the KOA in Anderson. We had a great turnout with five families camping. Friday evening the group celebrated Pat Cohee’s and Stacy Davis’s birthday with cake and ice cream. It was a wonderful surprise. We planned next sea-son’s camping schedule and selected Pat Cohee as president and Stacy Davis as the secretary. Saturday some went galivanting around and others played games and visited with other campers. We enjoyed visiting with Ron Cohee’s daughter and twin granddaughters. Terry Lane is teaching some of us how to crochet. Saturday evening, we enjoyed watching the Colts play, eating ice cream and root beer floats. The weekend was fabulous and the company as well. Next out is at Mounds Stake Park Memorial weekend. Until next time. Stacy Davis

Just a note to let every one know we had 10 people walk at the last campout. I hope to have more than that at the next campout. Remember that dogs can walk with us too. [Ed. Note: Check out the C.A.M.P. information on page 11.] I would also like to thank everyone that brought plastic lids to help make the bench for Mike Sim-mons.. We still need some more so bring them to the next camp out and will see if we can get the bench made this year. Thank you to every one that brought items for Ri-

ley Hospital. If you bought extra items for school you can bring them along to the October camp out. Also if there is anything else that you would like to make or buy you are more then welcome to bring them too. [Ed. Note: see information on Riley Gifts below.] We are planning on having a book exchange and walk at the next camp out so bring your walking shoes and books. Patti Thieme

Hello! It has been a busy summer. I just got back from a fabulous weekend with Skeeter Beaters hosting our Summer Campout at Cornerstone Retreat. Thanks again to all who were involved. I would like to share a few memorable moments I have been able to share with Brooklynn Headlee, who has been heavily involved in 4H for years. I picked up an English Angora last year so Brooklynn could have another bunny for her to show. We (Brooklynn Headlee) and I had a successful year this year in which Brooklynn and her rabbits received many honors. Look at the pictures of her success with her 4-H Show Rabbit.

Editor’s note: Indiana FCRV is interested in what you are doing! We welcome any member of Indiana FCRV to share your thoughts, achievements, adventures, or suggestions. The guidelines for submission are simple: THINK! (Is it True, is it Helpful, is it Inspirational, is it Necessary and is it Kind?) The editor reserves the right to ex-clude anything that does not fit these criteria.

Patty (Office Manager) sent this info to me as they were able to sign this campground up when they stayed there on way to Kansas. They will give 10% discount to our members. Since it's in Indiana I thought it would be a good idea to put in Chatter and encourage our members to support.

ARE YOU CALLED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE??

The National FCRV Trustee elections for 2020 may be calling you. Positions up for election are PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT of PROGRAMS and RECORDING/CORRESPONDING officer. If you are interested in any of these positions, please let State Director Cindy James know an she can forward your name to the nomi-nating committee.

SOME PRELIMINARY INFORMATION ABOUT 2020 CAMPVENTION

This campvention is being held in Brigden Ontario. Our Canadian members proposed that the fees for this campvention be in Canadian funds. This was approved by the Trustees and the rate set at $325 CDN. Because currency changes daily the amount in US dollars isn’t certain but should be between $240 USD and $260 USD. You have to go to your bank and let them know that you need Canadian funds in a money order. Not all banks do this, so you have to find out which ones do, and you make have to give them a couple of days to do this.

WATCH FOR MORE INFORMATION IN THE FUTURE!

It was wonderful to see everyone at the camp out. We had a great turnout of youth. The children really enjoyed painting their crafts and using the campground pool. The walking tacos were yummy and the friendship and fellowship was much needed after a very busy summer. We are looking forward to camping in October and hope to have a great turnout of youth and teens. If you are planning on bringing a youth or teen please message me through Facebook, email, or text at 812-

528-2097 so we can plan appropriately for activities. The theme is “Down on the Farm,” and I am really looking forward to activities for the kids. Until we camp again, Misty

Connie Black and her “Gang” kept us all entertained from the first day through to the last day! We had a very nice time and enjoyed everything! Next year Indiana is the Regional host and it will be in Shipshe-wana, Indiana August 6-9, 2020. There will be fur-ther info coming out as changes in campgrounds are being worked out at this time. Be looking here in the Chatter. Indiana Summer Campout is in the books and all had a great time! Thanks to our wonderful Hosts the Skeeter Beaters! Walking Tacos was hospitality Fri-day evening, and we had Root Beer Floats on Satur-day. There was a Gun safety seminar and followup practice at a shooting range for those who participat-ed. There were opportunities for swimming, walking, visiting more visiting, games played and more visit-ing! New Members came and camped, Welcome! “Old” members camped, it was nice to see Frances, Steven and Ed and Ellen. In addition, others that have not been camping in a while, it is always nice seeing our friends & family. Congratulations to Christopher Weiss on being ap-

In addition, along those same lines, Chris and Denise have started a New Chapter with several of the New FCRV Members and a few of us old members! Con-gratulations! The new chapter is the Fireflies. Stay safe in your travels. We hope to see many down the road, hopefully at the Bill Monroe Music and Campground for the Fall Invitational…info else-where here in the Chatter! Happy camping…. Ed and I have been very busy camping this year! We attended the Campvention in Hutchinson, Kansas. We handled the teen sports (softball and volleyball) and also hosted the teen ball! We provid-ed the food and music. All in attendance for the above activities had a very good time. It was a "younger" group of teens this year, so we look for-ward to seeing a lot of them at the upcoming Campventions in Bridgton, Canada next year and then in Elkhorn, Wisconsin in 2021. Ed and I also worked the Family Fun Day, Ed was in charge of the food and I was the DJ for the activi-ties. Again, everyone enjoyed there time at Family Fun Day. Of course, the highlight of the Kansas Campvenion is that our own, Macey Stuckwisch is our Internation-al Teen Queen! We were so happy for her (ask Macey, Ed even shed a tear!!!). Then we attended the Great Lakes Regional Cam-pout in Watseka, Illinois. This campout was a

blast. Many games were played and the entertain-ment was the Mystery Dinner Theatre. If you were not in attendance, you need to check Facebook for pictures. All of the members in the "play" did a great job and we had no idea who did it until the end! If you find the pictures, you will see Fletcher Shaneyfelt was guilty and was put in jail. It was so fun! We attended a campout in White Cloud, Michigan and went "tubing" down the river with some of our Michigan friends. Ed and I helped them start a new club in Michigan and have camped with them a few times...with 2 more campouts scheduled before the end of the season. Then most recently we attended the Indiana Sum-mer campout at Cornerstone in New Castle. The Skeeter Beaters did a wonderful job hosting with open time for family activities on there own. Ed at-tended the firearm safety class by Chris Wiess and then went to the shooting range. I stayed back with grandkids and got to take Kennedy to the pool with Macey and Joyce Frye! At the summer campout, the only teen member pre-sent, Macey decided that the teen fund could purchase ice cream for all the "kids" attending the cam-pout. So, Macey took the 6 youth to the campground office to purchase ice cream. The youth really appre-ciated that! Ed & Angie Shaneyfelt

Thank you to the Illinois FCRV for hosting a fun and busy Regional Campout. Indiana had a great turnout. We did well, winning the Beanbag Baseball Tournament, Family Feud, all three places in the Casino night games and the successful solution to the Murder Mystery Dinner. Other games included a Corn Hole Tourna-ment, Ladder Golf, Washer Toss, a Poker Walk, Euchre Tournament, and even Badminton Golf. We shared hospitalities of trail mix, cactus juice, root beer floats, and strawberry shortcake. We had a pitch-in breakfast and a served breakfast of biscuits and gravy. We made broken china necklaces and learned how to cook in-cast iron. Some leaned how to line dance. We were entertained during a pulled-pork dinner by an excellent production of a murder mystery. Here are some pictures. You can see more at the following link:

Indiana’s 2019 Summer Campout hosted by the Skeeter Beaters and Friends, was a blast! There were 19 units and 4 second families gathered at Cornerstone Campground from August 16-18, 2019. Cornerstone provides a lovely swimming pool for everyone and awesome playgrounds for the little ones. We were treated to walk-ing tacos on Friday night and root beer (and “dreamsicle”) floats on Saturday afternoon. After the C.A.M.P. walk on Saturday, Christopher Weiss conducted a gun safety seminar and provided access to a shooting range for those who wanted to improve their skills. Below are some memories. Further photos are available at the following link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/RvDafu1pTMtPG37H8

Our hosts provided “Walking Tacos” for our Friday evening hospitality. The youth spent fun time painting a craft. They also

had ice cream , courtesy of the teen fund.

Family Campers and RVers add a reward in the form of merchandise certificates which can be used on of-ficial FCRV merchandise and on payment of Campvention fees. These can be obtained from your State or National C.A.M.P. director (In Indiana this is currently Patti Thieme). Depending on the activity, the certificates are awarded either on a mileage or time basis or on the overall specific activity. For timed activities (Dancing, Volleyball, Aero-bics, Zumba, Pilates) certificates are as follows
