Indiana Wing Civil Air Patrol

4 July 2017 Day Three at Camp Atterbury

The Eagle

Maj. Sharon Groome, Indiana Wing’s Internal Aerospace Education Officer conducted classes on model rocketry. She said, “We built the Alpha III rocket which is a simple rocket using an engine. This gives cadets a taste of construction and launch. Hopefully they will go back to their home squadrons and ask to do more by earning the rocketry badge. I had fun teaching it and I hope they had fun learning it. We may have lit a spark of curiosity in some cadets minds today.”

The build and the launch are all part of a fun process that builds interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). While cadets learn the basics about propulsion, stability and control, and engineering, they also build comradery.

Cadets Continue to Drill, Focus on TeamworkCadets continue their training and move from basic drill movements towards more advanced movements. They also engage in team building exercises to have fun and improve esprit de corps.

Teamwork Today, the cadets participated in a number of TLP’s, or Team Leadership Projects, such as the human knot, the mine field, the perfect square, and the tarp flipping project. Team Leadership Projects are designed to promote teamwork, communication, and problem solving within the flight. These projects are equally fun and challenging for the cadets and promote a great learning environment.

C/CMSgt Dawson Pierce agreed and claimed, “the Team Leadership Exercises were a good learning experience and I was able to further my leadership abilities through them.”
