Indiana Safe Sleep Program
Collaboration between ISDH and DCS
Creates partnerships with community agencies
to provide safe sleep education and Infant
Survival Kits
Targets families & caregivers who do not have
safe places for their infants to sleep
Educational message is based on the AAP and
NIH recommendations
Program Goals
Reduce infant mortality
Provide a safe sleep environment for infants
Improve health for women of child-bearing age
Promote early & adequate prenatal care
Decrease parental smoking & substance abuse
Increase breastfeeding duration & exclusivity
Infant Survival Kit
program is available
in all 92 counties
120 distribution sites
Adding more sites in
high SUID rate areas
Partnering Agencies
How Can Community Partners Get
Involved? Become a crib distribution site
Promote Safe Sleep messages
Refer clients to one of the existing sites
Encourage other agencies to become a site
Promote the DOSE program
Encourage Cribs for Kids Hospital Certification
