Vision of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)
Dear Friends,
Today, Indian industry has demonstrated its
leadership in various sectors. Indian industry's new
growth paradigm is based on environmental
sustainability and an earth-centric approach. This
indeed is a step in the right direction.
CII is fully aware that economic development and
environment can and should go hand-in-hand to
ensure all-round sustainable development of the
Country. CII Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre
was established to offer a gamut of green advisory
services to Indian industry. Today, the Centre is
globally acknowledged as the pioneer of green
building movement in India.
It is with the untiring efforts of Dr Prem C Jain and
other leaders at IGBC that India is seen as one of the
global leaders in green built environment. Building
on the success story of green buildings, we have
extended the concept of green building rating to
industrial sector. CI I successfully launched
GreenCo (Green Company) rating System, the first
of its kind in the world, which is evoking excellent
response.
Indian industry strongly believes that going green
makes good business sense. Going green is good for
individuals, community and the Nation at large. India
has the wherewithal and resources to chalk out an
inspiring and fulfilling green journey.
I invite you to partner with CII in building a vibrant and
environmentally sustainable India !

Message from Chairman, World Green Building Council
Their passion, conviction, multi-pronged approach in building a greener and healthier Planet Earth is inspiring!
Dear Friends,
Over the last few years, my interactions with team
IndiaGBC has offered me new perspectives on how
a dedicated band of team members can bring in a
quality shift and focus in the way buildings are
designed. I am very happy to mention that, IndiaGBC
with over 4,200 registered projects, amounting to
over 4.66 Billion sq.ft is contributing immensely to
the global green building movement. I heartily
appreciate everyone for being part of the green
journey.
Team IndiaGBC has been partnering with
WorldGBC right from the initial days. Their passion,
conviction, multi-pronged approach in building a
greener and healthier Planet Earth is inspiring! I
heartily appreciate Dr Prem C Jain and all the vibrant
and dynamic leaders of IndiaGBC for making a
difference and for ushering in a paradigm shift in the
design and construction of green buildings.
As we move ahead, India's responsibility towards
global community is becoming increasingly
important. IndiaGBC has a lot to share and
contribute to the global community and I look forward
working together on the global green building
movement.
Best wishes,
Tai Lee Siang
Chairman, World Green Building Council
Dear Friends,
It is fulfilling to witness the growth and spread of
green building movement in India. Over 15 years ago,
a team of passionate and committed friends huddled
together to chalk out a new green growth paradigm
for Indian construction industry.
Now as I reflect upon the green journey, I realise that
each step was inspiring and fulfilling to all of us at
IGBC. Today, IGBC has enabled India script many
new milestones and re-define the contours of
constructing process and approaches.
Green building movement has become stronger with
the launch of GreenPro (Green Product) certification
in the year 2015. GreenPro aims to promote green
building products, material and technologies. As I pen
this message, over 170 products are GreenPro
certified and many others are in the pipeline. As we go
ahead, we would extend GreenPro certification to
technologies and perhaps to consumer goods. This
augurs well for the people and the Country at large.
We look forward to your continued support and
involvement in taking forward the green agenda of
IGBC.

Dear Friends,
Season’s Greetings from IGBC!!
Just over 15 years ago, a handful of us were huddled
together to design and build the first certified Green
Building in India. The mission was to create the Greenest
Business Centre on the planet. We were hand-picked
based on long years of delivering projects fulfilling similar
requirements. Using the age old practices of open
courtyard for day-light harnessing, sheetal minar for
indirect evaporative cooling of hot and arid air of
Hyderabad, root zone treatment for grey and black water
recycling; and the state of the art technologies of double
glass for bringing light without heat ingress, waterless
urinals for water conservation and solar PV for power
generation, we achieved the seemingly impossible.
The phenomenal success of our maiden venture fired our
imagination. IGBC laid down the mission of building a
greener and healthier India (Bharat as I love to call our
country), where buildings optimize the Panchbhutas (the
five elements of Nature), where all regions and all sections
of the society build using regional materials and traditional
construction practices – all in harmony with Nature,
leading Bharat to be once again the Jagat Guru in
preserving all life forms on our Mother Earth.
Starting with a meagre 20,000 sq.ft of our first certified
green building, India today stands tall amongst peers
around the world, with 4.66 Billion Sq.Ft registered green
footprint with IGBC. And the glorious journey has only
begun.
We have launched 21 IGBC Green ratings systems, one
for each type of application - office, home, affordable
housing, school, hospital, underground metro station,
railway station, factory, village or township. IGBC
strength is our distributed knowledge centres through
more than 20 IGBC chapters and more than one hundred
student chapters, from Guwahati to Pune, from
Chandigarh to Cochin, each driven by doyens of
construction industry, giving their time generously and
selflessly to bring back “Green – Our Way of Life”.
This year we are hosting the World Green Building Council
Board Meeting and Asia Pacific Network Meet, with our
annual flagship event Green Building Congress 2017, in
Jaipur, on 4-7 October, 2017. 30 Country Councils are
participating. A very warm welcome to our international
guests to our beloved Bharat.
My profound gratitude to all my colleagues, leading IGBC
with all their heart - Chairs, Co-Chairs, Executive
Committee Members, Project Proponents, Sponsors of
various events throughout the year, and all those who are
treading the Path of Green in our inspiring green journey.
Buoyed by the great enthusiasm of all our Humrahees,
IGBC plans to lead the world, with 10 Billion Sq.Ft of
Registered Green Footprint by 2022, when we celebrate
75 years of India’s Independence. We will go full throttle
and facilitate in building a Greener & Healthier India.

Workshops on Partial Risk Sharing Facility (PRSF) for Financing Energy Efficiency Projects in Building SectorFirst IGBC Platinum rated Data Center
IGBC in partnership with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) organised workshops & B2B interactions in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. The workshops aimed at promoting investments in enhancing energy efficiency in existing building projects.
ICICI Bank Data Center in Hyderabad gained the unique distinction of becoming India's first Platinum rated project to be rated under IGBC Green Data Center Rating System. The Rating System would facilitate in providing tremendous tangible and intangible benefits.
IGBC in its efforts to disseminate information on 'methods of optimizing built - environment performance' has instituted the IGBC Green League (IGL) in 2016. IGL involves series of awareness sessions (on Saturdays), followed by a quiz competition.
Encouraged by last year's response, this year too IGBC has organised the 2nd edition of IGBC Green League in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. The response to this initiative has been overwhelming. The 2nd edition had the participation of 72 teams across the 4 locations.
Subsequently, all these teams will take part in the preliminary IGL quiz contest in September 2017 and the final competition will be organised at Green Building Congress 2017 on 6 October 2017. The top three winning teams will be awarded trips to Shangai, Singapore and Thailand respectively. All the participants will receive a certificate.
Seen from L-R: Mr S Srinivas, Deputy Executive Director, CII-Godrej GBC; Dr Prem C Jain, Chairman, IGBC and
Mr Ramesh Dharmaji, Chief General Manager, SIDBI at the workshop in New Delhi, 9 March 2017
Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC)
Glimpses of 2nd Edition of IGBC Green League (IGL)
LMRC became the first Government entity in Lucknow region and the first one in Transport sector in U.P. to attain IGBC's Platinum rating.
With benefits ranging from water conservation, energy
efficiency, use of renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, material conservation, commuter facilities – LMRC's Platinum certified stations are set to provide world-class experience to the people of Lucknow.

CII - Indian Green Building Council
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was formed in the year
2001. The vision of the council is, "To enable a sustainable
built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the
global leaders in the sustainable built environment by 2025".
The council offers a wide array of services which include
developing new green building rating programmes,
certification services and green building training programmes.
The council also organises Green Building Congress, its
annual flagship event on green buildings.
The council is committee-based, member-driven and
consensus-focused. All the stakeholders of construction
industry comprising of architects, developers, product
manufacturers, corporate, Government, academia and nodal
agencies participate in the council activities through local
chapters. The council also closely works with several State
Governments, Central Government, World Green Building
Council, bilateral multi-lateral agencies in promoting green
building concepts in the country.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and
sustain an environment conducive to the development of India,
partnering industry, Government, and civil society, through
advisory and consultative processes.
CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and
industry-managed organization, playing a proactive role in
India's development process. Founded in 1895, India's
premier business association has over 8,500 members, from
the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and
MNCs, and an indirect membership of over 200,000
enterprises from around 250 national and regional sectoral
industry bodies.
CII charts change by working closely with Government on
policy issues, interfacing with thought leaders, and enhancing
efficiency, competitiveness and business opportunities for
industry through a range of specialized services and strategic
global linkages. It also provides a platform for consensus-
building and networking on key issues.
Extending its agenda beyond business, CII assists industry to
identify and execute corporate citizenship programmes.
Partnerships with civil society organizations carry forward
corporate initiatives for integrated and inclusive development
across diverse domains including affirmative action,
healthcare, education, livelihood, diversity management,
skill development, water and empowerment of women to
name a few.
The CII theme for 2017-18, India Together: Inclusive. Ahead.
Responsible emphasizes Industry's role in partnering
Government to accelerate India's growth and development.
The focus will be on key enablers such as job creation; skill
development and training; affirmative action; women parity;
new models of development; sustainability; corporate social
responsibility, governance and transparency.
