the normal tempo, so that you can work on your v io l in playing in a more concentrated way whi lst

The t i t le of th is piece suggests a concert s i tuat ion, p laying a solo part wi th accompaniment. There

are thousands of such works for the v io l in but many of these cannot be tackled unt i l you have been

playing for a considerable t ime. This careful ly chosen concert ino enables you to gain necessary

exper ience for th is type of p laying, al lowing you to have suff ic ient musical and technical control over

your instrument whi lst having the support of an accompanist dur ing performance. l t wi l l a lso enr ich

your repertoire.

About the cD

The CD is an excel lent means to help you achieve a pol ished performance. First you wi l l hear the

tuning notes, fo l lowed by the demo track so that you get an idea of how the piece should sound. The

play-along part ( f i rst in the normal tempo, then in study tempo) has been subdiv ided into var ious

tracl<s which have been indicated in the score. They start just before a characteristic or new passage- this way you don't have to search every time you want to study a certain section. The (D has been

set up as fo l lows:

Ceorge Per lman taught the v io l in for a substant ia l part of the zoth century. His exact year of b i r th is

unknown - he was qui te secret ive about i t - but he was probably born around r898 in l ( iev, Ukraine.

As a young chi ld he moved to Chicago where his pr incipal v io l in teachers included Leon Samatini ,

Adolph Weidig and Leopold Auer, wi th whom he studied for a year.

In addition to dozens of arrangements, editions and collections George Perlman wrote several original

pieces for violin, many of which are of a pedagogical nature. The /sraeli Concertino (gll), which is perhaps

his most popular composi t ion, is a symbol of h is pr ide and interest in his Jewish fai th and her i tage.

The lndian Concertino of lg1+ is an excellent study worl< for young violinists. lt was obviously

inspired by the rhythms and harmonies of nat ive American music but the wor l< 's inspirat ion, oddly

enough, (ame to the composer wh i le he was s i t t ing in synagogue.

Neben dutzenden von Bearbei tungen, Ausgaben und 5ammlungen, schr ieb George Per lman mehrere

or ig inale Komposi t ionen f i j r d ie Viol ine, von denen viele pâdagogischer Natur s ind. Das lsrael i

Concert ino von' t973 ist v ie l le icht seine bekannteste Komposi t ion; es manifest ier t den Stolz und das

Interesse an seinem j i jd ischen Clauben und Erbe.
