Imagine 20,000 inhabitants living in rural villages with only sporatic electricity, few phones, no open schools, no church within 40 miles, no medical clinics nor medical professionals.

With high unemployment, alcoholism, drug use and prostitution are rampant. While the government attempts to provide cash or food products, middlemen often market these for their own personal gain.

Children spend their days begging or gathering wood for their mothers. These little ones face numerous challenges including child marriage, begging, forced labor, child prostitution and AIDS. Infanticide is prevalent.

This is Motipur, located 120 miles north of Lucknow in the state capital of Uttar Pradesh. Action Ministries, a ministry of Global Action, is developing the India Hope Center to provide a safe environment for these abused and neglected children, where they are raised by loving, nurturing adults.

Global Action has already laid the foundation for the Hope Center, including a progressive orphan project and educational program among destitute children. There are currently five sets of foster parents with seven orphans in each home. A school for kindergarten through third grade, literacy programs, adult HIV/AIDS training, distribution of blankets

and sweaters during winter months and a growing church community are also part of the Hope Center.

The components of the Motipur Hope Center include:

• Foster homes with trained foster parents who will raise 7-8 orphans each

• School from kindergarten through high school for orphans and children in the village

• Vocational school in mechanics, welding, tailoring, computers and business studies • Dairy and poultry farm that will supply both the Hope Center and village • Fruit and vegetable greenhouses that will supply both the Hope Center and village • Medical clinic with ophthalmology and dental treatment • Small maternity hospital to lower the high death rate of both infants and mothers • Community center that will serve as a public library, meeting hall, and church
