The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) released its definition of career readiness in 2010. According to ACTE, “[c]areer readiness involves three major skill areas:
• core academic skills and the ability to apply those skills to concrete situations in order to function in the workplace and in routine daily activities;
•employability skills (such as critical thinking and responsibility) that are essential in any career area;
•technical, job-specific skills related to a specific career pathway”
Component of the CCTC standards which provide framework for student development
Experiences that can be “practiced” using different approaches in a variety of settings
Refined throughout full continuum of learning; through their journey in school, college and workforce

Dr. David Conley proposed an operational definition for college readiness that focuses on academic preparation.
He suggested that college readiness is the “level of preparation a student needs in order to enroll and succeed—without remediation—in a credit-bearing general education course at a postsecondary institution that offers a baccalaureate degree or transfer to a baccalaureate program” (Conley 2007, 5).

Which Way to Proceed?.......
“I propose working with states to make high-quality preschool available to every child in America... Let's do what works, and make sure none of our children start the race of life already behind. Let's give our kids that chance.“
