She provides support around issues of accommodation, financial difficulty and/or income support, family issues, engagement in education, mental health, and relationships. Renee is located in The SHED behind the Tuckshop and works at the College on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Holly Mattison – Defence School Mentor (DSM) The Defence School Mentor’s (DSM) role within Kelvin Grove State College is to minimise the impact of parent/ carer Defence mobility on education and assist students during times of extended parental absence, due to service reasons. The DSM Program delivered by Mrs Holly Mattison operates from Prep through to Year 12. The program includes welcoming new families and assisting with transitions between new posting localities and within the College Campuses. The DSM is also available to assist with social and emotional issues that may also arise during a student’s time at the College. The DSM provides direct and flexible support to students, parents, teachers and other support services within the school. Holly is located in The SHED (behind the Tuckshop) This team in committed to supporting the educational and emotional wellbeing of Kelvin Grove students. With majority of the Kelvin Grove students working externally the team can also assist you with connecting with relevant community support services. Renee Mills – Social Worker

Introducing the IWS Team in 2020

Student resilience and wellbeing are essential for both academic and social development, and are optimised by safe, supportive and respectful environments. Schools share this responsibility with the whole community.

The Inclusive Welfare Support Team provides proactive and support programs to improve student engagement and learning outcomes. This collective group provides a holistic range of support services for all students. The IWS team is made up of the following support staff:

Belinda Fraser – Guidance Officer Years 11 & 12

Belinda is the Guidance Officer for Years 11 & 12, and provides counselling, support and information to students. The areas covered include course and career planning, social-emotional issues, and Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA) for those with barriers to their learning. Belinda works Monday to Friday and her office is in E Block. Appointments to see Belinda are booked through Student Services or via email [email protected]

Talena Bruhl – Guidance Officer Transitions Years 9 &10

Talena is the Guidance Officer for students in Years 9 & 10. She supports students with their social and emotional wellbeing at Kevin Grove State College. Talena works collaboratively with students to navigate course and career planning when transitioning from Middle to Senior school. Talena works Monday to Friday and her office is in E block. Appointments to see Talena are booked through Student Services or via email [email protected]

Nathan Macpherson – Guidance Officer Years 6, 7 & 8

Nathan is the Guidance Officer for the Middle School and works with students in Years 6-8, their teachers, families, and community agencies to ensure they are learning and achieving within a safe, supportive and inclusive environment at Kelvin Grove State College. He assists in promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for our Middle School students. Nathan works Monday to Friday and his office is in E Block. Appointments to see Nathan are booked through Student Services or via email [email protected]

Jo Brady – College Behaviour Support Teacher and Years 9 &10 Transitions Coordinator

In her role as College Behaviour Support Teacher, Jo case manages individual students with complex needs including, social-emotional and/or behavioural concerns. Jo connects students and families with Department of Education and Training and Kelvin Grove State College behaviour programs and support services. She works closely with student’s families to assist them to re-engage in their learning and pathway. Jo works Monday to Friday and her office is located in B Block. [email protected]

Meriel Ianna – School Based Police Officer

Meriel is a Senior Constable working Monday to Friday in the College as a School Based Police Officer located in A Block thoroughfare near the Senior Tuckshop. Her primary role is to build positive relationships with the students so they feel confident to approach her with their issues. Meriel provides support and guidance to students and their families and refers them to relevant persons or agencies as required. She manages policing issues as they arise and tries to prevent offences in the College by educating the students on relevant offences. Meriel’s door is always open to both students and their families.

Josh Blake – College Chaplain

Josh’s role involves supporting the social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of the school community. He provides one on one pastoral care, community building and weekly free Pancake Breakfasts. Josh attends camps and excursions, and organises events such as the Clubs and Societies Expo, Harmony Day, as well as NAIDOC and Wellbeing Week. Josh works at the College on alternate Mondays (odd numbered weeks of the Term), as well as every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. His office is located in The SHED behind the Tuckshop. Students can drop in to The SHED to see Josh during breaks or they can book an appointment to meet with him via Student Services.

Rosie Hollett – School Based Youth Health Nurse

The School Based Youth Health Nurse is a Queensland Health service, which aims to promote positive health outcomes for young people and their families. Rosie works with the College on curriculum, and supports teaching and learning activities. Key Health Education topics Rosie focusses on with students include; drugs and alcohol, sexual health, healthy relationships, mental health and nutrition. The nurse consultation for students is voluntary, confidential and provides young people with health information and referrals to community agencies. Rosie is located in The SHED behind the Tuckshop and her work days are Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
